DC's 5G, could it had been good?

No.

Yes.

Maybe

I don’t know

Hell no.

The entire premise was aging up the main heroes into geriatrics to permanently replace them with Woke Diveristy heroes, making Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent and Damian Wayne evil to prop up Luke Fox and Jon Kent (this was before they decided to make Tim Fox was decided to replace Bruce Wayne).

The only non-shitty idea was that Jon Kent would date Jenny Sparks from The Authority, thus making him not Gay/“Bi”.
>>
>>151322712
No. It was the single worse idea that DC Comics has ever had. Which is saying something.
>>
>>151322712
Yes, but capeshit is too in love with static status quo.
>>
>>151322712
It is hilarious that DC Comics saw Marvel’s ANAD/Now and decided they needed to copy that.

You would think that after Marvel undid everything and brought back all their straight White heroes, that DC Comics would have more sense to make all their characters gay/black for twitter brownie points.

Jon and Andrina being nepo babies trying to live up to their dads is fine.
A new Amazon Wondergirl and using Jo Mullein the other Earth Lantern is fine okay.

By why use two new legacies for Batman and Flash when they already have so many ready to take up the mantle already?

>Jon and Andrina being nepo babies trying to live up to their dads is fine.
It isn’t. Both of them suck.
>A new Amazon Wondergirl and using Jo Mullein the other Earth Lantern is fine okay.
It isn’t. They were both boring and lame.

>By why use two new legacies for Batman and Flash when they already have so many ready to take up the mantle already?
Because they weren’t black and LGBTXYZ enough.

The whole point of the initiative was to make everyone some kind of brown minority or some part of the gay rianbow spectrum.

With Absolute doing as well this doesn't sound as good but it could've been an alternate universe. Hell you could shove all the 5G characters there so they could be heroes for a universe that needs them.
>>

I’ve said this since new52 but I really think smart money would be to have Earth 1 be a much looser, easier accessible canon that normies can recognize and reboot Earth 2 as a continuation of post-Crisis canon that would function like 5G was going to (just without the awful ideas like Bruce Wayne having Joker kill Bane or Superman becoming more like his Injustice counterpart), that way you have your cake and can eat it too; normies/people like me can get easily accessible Batman comics where he’s just solving crimes or fighting a bad guy and canon/lorefags get their continuing canon where things can actually change without having to worry about upsetting licensors.

>DC's 5G, could it had been good?

No, because ultimately it was rooted in Dan Didio's absolute hatred of the 90's characters (he worships 90's storytelling, but bizarrely he hates the actual characters from that era). Dan wanted to "move the clock forward", but instead of doing the logical thing and letting the sidekick characters all "grow up" and take their mentors' jobs - which would've been potentially interesting to watch - he decided to fuck them and their existing fanbases all over, skip their generation entirely, and bet everything on a pile of lame as hell Donut Steel characters like Jace Fox. This, coupled with turning original Superman and Batman into basically villains (they were meant to become authoritarian psychos and antagonists for the new generation) would've killed the project dead very quickly. Whatever merit the 5G project could've had was undone by having Didio and his terrible biases in charge of it.
>>
The one interesting aspect of it was the undoing of the sliding timeline and actually tying heroes to specific decades. But that was all just a transparent way to shill the latest batch of diversity replacements.
And it's a pretty odd pitch for guy on record saying superheroes should be timeless and legacy characters are bad for the brand.

Didio LOVED turning heroes into Villains, most often than not for absolutely shit reasons.

Look at Cassandra Cain, Heroes in Crisis, Jor-El, etc.

LOOK AT RHINOX IN BEAST MACHINES.

Jon becoming a raging homosexual was the sacrifice paid to bury 5G.

5G would have been no different to most line refreshes or events. It was going to be a mash up of 52 type things, with the main Justice League characters gone or AWOL and being replaced. New 52 being a post Brightest Day line refresh which then got turned into a reboot in a short time frame which then later get returned back in Rebirth kind of proved that DiDio had no fucking clue. Yara Flor and such characters have come and gone really quickly and that would have generally been the case. This would have just ended up rectonned or changed in some event.
>>
>>151326939
Yara really was dumped by DC super quick.

Black Batman and Non-Binary Flash got even less attention.

So Dan left DC like a year before this didn't he?
>>

"Dan DiDio left DC Comics on February 21, 2020"
"The Heroes in Crisis comic series was released beginning in September 2018, with the first issue coming out on September 26, 2018"
"The first public mention of the "5G" (Fifth Generation) plan came from reports in June 2019."
"Brian Michael Bendis started writing Superman in May 2018"

Didio was fired in Early 2020.
