The fact that Luthor is fundamentally incapable of "getting" Superman is one of my favorite things in comics. That the concept of goodness for its own sake, that virtue is its own reward, is totally alien to Lex, for all his brilliance, is just timelessly good.

One of my favorite issues of Byrne's run was early on he had this computer program crunch the data to find out Superman's identity and it, successfully, points out Clark. But Lex just absolutely refuses to believe any of that. He just can't process that someone like Superman would be as humble as Clark is or even be a regular human at all. And honestly I've always love this reason as to why secret identities work. Readers over analyze because they're readers. They have all the meta knowledge. They know what to look for because it's a book. But in universe? Nobody would believe it even if they're looking which they're probably not.

my bother with Clark's identity has never been the glasses themselves or how he blends into a crowd easily without anyone believing he's Superman. for me it's more about how some stories have Superman continually interact with Lois, Jimmy, and many other characters while they're constantly oblivious that it's Clark. it's one thing when you're just a bystander who catches glances of Clark once or twice, it's another when you're an intelligent journalist like Lois who spends a lot of time with both Clark and Superman because realistically Lois should be able to deduce the truth very quickly and easily

My favorite Prince Valiant story comes from one of the Fantagraphics reprints IIRC, I'm guessing the first book. I can't remember which artist was visiting Foster but it goes something like this.
>Artist loved Foster + Prince Valiant
>kept a "swipe" file of clippings from various sources, as reference aid when doing art
>since Foster was a master draftsman, Artist often referred to Prince Valiant to nail different poses
>years later, Artist gets the opportunity to meet Foster, jumps at it, maybe late 1960s just before his retirement
>shows up as Foster's working on a Valiant page
>Foster has a clipping from Artist's work and is using it to get a pose down
>Foster compliments the Artist, apologizes for having to "swipe" from him
>Artist tells him it's all good - the exact page/pose Foster is trying to nail, is one that Artist originally swiped from him, they have a laugh with each other
Funniest shit ever, I'll have to get my volume out and see who it was.

I always really liked those quiet coda issues of X-men. Even if the event ended up being rubbish there was usually some poignant moments when everyone was just cooling off. It's good to just take a moment before and after huge events to take a time out and just reestablish relationships, friends etc. Especially when the team is so big, it's easy for some characters to get lost.

Why was he trying to find out Superman's identity? Why would he even assume that Superman's hiding it? He doesn't wear a mask. This was always such a weird concept to me, both Superman and Lois spent a lot of time back in the olden days trying to "find out Superman's secret identity". Why? Did none of the writers back then realize how silly this premise is? Trying to learn the true face of a man who doesn't fucking hide it?

I wish Aunt May's death had stuck, there was zero reason to bring her back, it was a lovely and fitting send-off for her, and would have allowed Peter to move on with MJ. It's not like the fans were clamoring for her to come back, I still have no idea why Marvel did it.

The late 90s was when the collapse happen and the markets were held hostage by the creators, they couldn't let these books die but they had no idea what would and wouldn't make money so this let the writers that were fan boys of the 70s and 80s runs take over and just make their fan fictions they wanted, it's why to this day Marvel is so very bad at making any decent content is because the books are not profitable enough to care what is being made but not so costly (like movies) to demand they change or get fully canceled, just endless reboots.

I always liked this side of Superman and Lois.

Honestly, I feel like the solution is to hire editors that are neutral to those books. They would stay pro, and they would tell the writers and artists to do good stories, instead of ragebaiting the ever-aging fanbase.

it's very hard to find that kind of quality anymore due to the nature of the industry. If you had those skills why waste them feeding the big two? Also I think the "rage baiting" is just a lie and looking at the creators they just have a never ending contempt for the fans. Skybound is doing the opposite of rage bait and is just giving what the fans want 1 for 1 and it has been treading upwards these last few years to the point it's likely going to pass Marvel (already cleared past DC) by next year and again, it's just taking ideas fans want and turning it into "canon" stories. Personally I dislike it as much as the rage bait but it shows that one works far better than the other for getting sales.

I mean I really don't see how anyone, even as retarded as Brevoort can look at things and think shit's working. They're never gonna gonna come out and say they were wrong but I really wish they wouldn't be so willing to double down just to spite.

Did they became this much of an awful place?
And man, I should give Skybound a try, I have been drifting unto Europeans for a while now.

Near as I can tell it was always kind of shit just there wasn't as many alternatives. Modern internet culture has made it way easier to do things for yourself.

Context: This Jane Fonda stand-in was sucking up to the Khmer Rouge at the start of the issue, so seeing this was deeply satisfying.

It's a fun comic. It gets a little too weird for my taste near the end, but still a great ride.

It's really inconsistent how durable the cape is but I always love seeing Superman using it to shield someone or wrap someone in it.

Maguire is the only artist I've seen who can make two talking heads funny for eight goddamn panels. Christ dude could probably make Bendis's repeat pages actually work

I love how skanky they tried to make Wonder Woman in the 90s. Like, let's make her look even nakeder. Like, waxing is mandatory nakeder.

>Thanos at first posed dismissively and at a slight angle, turns and mirrors Cap directly in response to his bravado
As much guff as Starlin tends to give the theatrics of superheroes, good on him for these panels summarizing their ethos.
Or Lim or Perez if the push was more from them.

Also, yes, I know Cap is swiftly brushed away after this. Still, there were more humiliating defeats abound during this.

>>151371235
Shame, shorts don't embed. It's just Cap resisting Thanos in Infinity War explained anyway.
