Going to the Big Apple Con this weekendHow have your experiences at comic conventions been?
>>151339722Have fun getting ripped off in nyc, place is a hell hole.
>>151339722While I've enjoyed them crowds and overpriced con food are a big hassle. Best to bring some water and snacks to keep you going. I'm too old and cynical now to wait in lines for most big panels and events. For me the artist alley sections or their equivalents are more fun to explore than the big vendor booths.
>>151339722>How have your experiences at comic conventions been?I only go to small conventions, particularly artist driven ones.>Zines>Cheap sketches>Can talk to people and hang outI went to a large convention just once and it put me off ever going to another one.
The guy who puts on Big Apple Con rather persistently tried to talk me into buying a booth at Big Apple Con while I was at NYCC vending Unlucky for him that I live a thousand miles away and his con is too small to consider going
>>151340587Where do you even find cheap cons?>ZinesDoakes.gif
>>151340920>Doakes.gifWhat? Zines as in self published small comics. Indie comics etc.>Where do you even find cheap cons?Just find smaller more specific cons? Stuff aimed towards actual comics and not cosplay etc.
>>151339722I watched mine slowly turn to shit over the course of twenty five years.
>>151341136Yeah how do you find that shit. Anytime I google it's either big gay cons or an outdated website for shit that happened months if not years ago.
>>151339722Fun, but all the cosplays with so much effort always make me just having a shitty spider-man mask i bought feel inadecuate.
>>151341856It helps to look more locally or figure out if there are smaller art scenes where event news circulates. Maybe even the local library or farmers market can have leads. Following artists who are more active about tabling can also help. For example I found out about this upcoming free event in Los Angeles from an artist I follow posting about it.Also I just remembered it helps to figure out the right keywords since Google search tends to go to the big obvious choices if you use a term like "convention." Searching "zine festival/fair" plus your general area may yield better results.
>>151339722Can you be a dear and throw a cup of hot vomit in Dan Slott's face if you see him? Thanks.
>>151342583Okay, I'll go for it. Thanks Gloom.
>>151341224How bad has it gotten? Gimme a frame of reference
>>151339722Cons like these seem stressful.
>>151339722Dunno why people in interested in these oversize and overcrowded events and their inflated prices.
