Not sure if this is really good or if it's because Wells run was so bad, but I like it. I enjoy seeing Norman going up against Spidey villains more than I did with Otto. And Ben seems to be going in an interesting direction.

He's clearly looking at the names just before
>>
>>151347216
Norman actually cares about Peter and misses him, which makes him stand out. Otto, on the other hand, is so full of himself that he just writes Peter off like he doesn’t matter. Instead of paying attention to Peter’s good points or what he has to say, Otto goes straight for tearing down his character, acting like he’s the only one who gets to decide what’s valuable. By doing that, he ignores anything positive Peter ever did. Otto assumes he’s better without proving it, and then uses that assumption to justify putting Peter down. That way of thinking completely skips over the idea that they could be equals or that their relationship might be more complicated than just “one’s superior.”
>>
>>151347544
And he's clearly typing. But what's the end game? With the patents talk, are we getting Parker Industry 2.0 as Ben Industry?

Norman has been written amazingly in Joe's run.

As a writer, in formal terms, Kelly is leagues above Wells and Slott. You may not care about his plots (or dislike them) but he knows the craft.
>>
>>151347648
Absolutely.
>>
>>151347648
He is definitely better on a technical level. But his stuff feels way more auto pilot. Slott did big bold stuff. And wells tried even if he didn't succeed. I don't feel Kelly is trying. It feels cookie cutter? If that makes sense.

>>151348448
It was hinted at once or twice before Raimi’s run, and then resurfaced pretty regularly during Dark Reign. I can recall at least two X‑Men tie‑ins where it was spelled out beyond any doubt. There was also the commentary in Temple With No Name, and Spencer picked up on references to it as well. Personally, I tend to chalk it up to Gathering of Five being a misstep. Getting cursed with madness is rough, but it’s been a recurring thread woven through the character for decades.

It wasn't hinted at all pre raimi. Tas did it but nothing followed it. And it was just the dark reign tie with nate grey, no other. And that was clearly just the writer only knowing him from the films. Yeah the slott thing. Spencer did one reference to it, but it's more border. Happening 5 times in 1 decade isn't recurring trough decades.

It's still not decades or a consistent thing. It's an outlier. That is a good explanation but it does make it supernatural and thus something that should be gone now I guess.

>And it was just the dark reign tie with nate grey, no other. And that was clearly just the writer only knowing him from the films.
Siege ended with Norman having a direction conversation with the goblin. It's just another idea taken from other media that gets folded into the comics, like Superman's flight (taken from the radio show) and the symbiote affecting Peter's emotions and making him more violent (taken from the cartoon)
>>
Kelly's run has been pretty damn good... but I have to admit I'm getting a bit worn out on all of this stuff going on in Peter's life that he's not around for, and I want to see it resolved/addressed.

VenoMJ, Paul breakup, Norman as Spidey, Ben taking over his life, Gwen permanently in 616 and Captain Stacy back, Eddie as Carnage, relationships or lack thereof with Shay and Felicia (who will probably be dating someone else by the time he's back)... there's a lot to get to and not a lot of time to do it before we plunge right into a crossover.

I know he's back in January, but I think splintering the book has made it feel too decompressed for my liking. Might have been better if they did 2 Norman/Ben issues in a row and 2 space issues in a row. Maybe not.
>>
>>151348944
You may want to reread some of the older material, because your version leaves out details. There is also an X-Men add-on story that often gets overlooked, remembered mostly for the scene where a woman threw her underwear at Norman. Jenkins hinted at it, Mackie hinted at it, and Dark Reign continued to reference it, sometimes leaving it unclear whether the presence was Loki or the Goblin. The series concludes with Norman confronting the Green Goblin for standing in his way, which establishes the Goblin as a constant presence. Dark Reign 2 also acknowledges this. Spencer made use of it as well, whether you choose to recognize that or not. Villains don’t reveal their inner thoughts or show up as often as heroes, so claiming it only appeared five times isn’t really accurate. Norman’s connection to the Goblin usually isn’t portrayed as directly or overtly as other fractured‑psyche characters, but that doesn’t mean Wells was the first to explore the whole “voice in the head” idea.

>Gwen Stacy... replaced... in the 616 with Spider-Gwen
This is clone saga redux, except Ben Reilly was actually likable, Gwen Stacy had substance beyond romance, and Spider-gwen is an unholy abomination that needs to be purged.

Paul’s long gone now, retard. He’s trying to teach Dylan some respect by raping him. It’s such a terrible time to be a Paul fan, Poland is seeing its biggest superhero Paul Rabin turned into a LOSER and KIDDIE FUCKER!!!

No, that changed. She officially transplanted herself into the 616. Even Norman Osborn thinks she’s the OG Gwen now. Note how any group covers with MJ and Felicia now have Spider-Gwen there instead.
>>
>>151352504
You are racist against Ricardo too, you think it’s wrong for a black man to date a white woman. You probably like Tombstone because you think he’s white.

Disgusting really but Poland is a very backwards and racist country all things considered.

What bad think did May’s new boyfriend do? You hate him just as much as Norman Osborn because in your eyes having dark skin is just as bad as being a serial killer. Shame on you!

What does Gwenschizo hate more, Norman Osborn or black people. He seems to really hate black people a lot so I think he hates the black Norman Osborn even more than the white one.

He probably only hated Sins Past because it also involved a black guy having a relationship with a white woman. Note how he never complains about Miles Warren, only Norman Osborn. But that’s because Warren is white and Norman is black.

I think so too, but this Gwenschizo guy seems really angry about it, he was also really angry about Felicia being black in Ultimate for a long time I think he’s a pretty evil person who has a lot of problems concerning black people.
>>
>>151352682
When I really think about it I hate the white one most. The black one I find quite laughable and easy to ignore.

You see a black Norman Osborn as inferior to a white one because you are racist.

>>
>>151352718
Look I really don't give a shit about may is with now since she remained faithful to the end. now worry about MJ instead once they have her married to a black person that's when your real problems will begin spider fags .And knowing editoral they will most likely make it canon very soon now.
>>
>>151352798
Then why did you say that May dating a black guy was a bad thing earlier? What were you trying to prove? Why did you have a problem with it then and not now? Is it because you’re more afraid of sharing your real views on race now?
>>
>>151352716
it is. it’s one guy double posting from mobile and probably a laptop or something, it’s really easy to tell it’s the same person by length of sentences, words used, and poor attempt at masking their typing patterns. “gwenschizo” goes from typing full perfect english paragraphs to suddenly making random and nonsensical grammatical errors.
the guy also has a weird fixation with MJ where he’s constantly mentioning paul in any capacity and then using the “gwenschizo” persona to rant about MJ being a whore or whatever.
weird how this guy uses spiderman threads to talk to himself and act like he’s not when other users catch on to it lol

That's why he is the lowest of the lowe. Also Ether is a fitting name. Lowe's made up letter must have inspired him to think up a mind numbing response to his mind numbing job and create a fictionalperson named after a mind numbing substance.
Also I await the humiliation ritual at NYCC. It will be sad. But hopefully the laughter after the fact will be rapturous.

>Original Harry: Wow thanks for the abandonment mom. Really appreciate being treated like a disposable toilet roll. Do you really think I am going to forgive you? Haha no. Not in this timeline. Not in any timeline. You walked out and left me with dad. Dad who is horrible and abusive and possessive to the point where he would rather break me than let me go. He stayed, but he stayed like a prison guard, not a parent and you knew he'd do that. You knew exactly what he was and you still left me there. So congratulations mom, you managed to be worse than him by choosing to abandon me with him! I hope you're satisfied with the life you've chosen.

>BND Harry 2.0: No, ma'am I will not calling you mom because that title is a joke. Fine i will hand you a half baked second chance with my kids because you claim you were protecting them from dad when you kidnapped them and stole their blood and lied about your identity to slither into their lives as their nanny. Heaven help me but somehow I believe you because i am literally programmed to be slightly less bitter than the original. So here is my cheap discount version of forgiveness and you better not expect anything more or my beautiful Ex-wife will probably kill you for messing with our little ones and I may hesitate a moment too long to stop her.

You know who else did that as well and possibly even better? MJ.

> Aunt May stays alive because she anchors Peter’s humanity and responsibility in ways no pet play or ejaculation session ever could.

Even if this was true, which it isn't, its all the more reason to kill her off. Everything about her is a broken record at this point.

Having a Wife and Kids works better to anchor Peters humanity and responsibility.

I’d agree that children are the greater responsibility. An elderly mother and a wife represent two distinct obligations, and while they’re nearly equal, the aging mother edges ahead as an inherited and unavoidable duty you didn’t choose but must shoulder. This is especially true in a world where filial duties are often neglected and elder abuse remains far too common.

No comic has ever been consistent about anyone's eye color. There is no key colorists have to adhere to.
This is what Gene Colan and Tom Palmer thought Peter Parker and Mary Jane looked like back in the early 70s. No time to fix, had to publish it like this.
>>
>>151363913
She died in ASM 400, they only reason she is still around is becuase a stupid retcon. One of the dumbest in a list of stupid retcons. she is a broken record, kick the hag to the curb. Any and all emotional Beats involving her fall flat to any one other than someone with a scoop of ice cream for a brain.
>>
>>151364766
She's not even really dependent on Peter anyways anymore either these days so it's just pointless. Send her to Florida or something.
>>
>>151364730
Yeah 60s and 70s where Pete had blue or green eyes and the girls referred to him as brown eyed or blue eyed hunk
>>
>>151365010
I think the ever loving blue eyed Thing is probably the only consistent one and that's purely because of the moniker of being the ever loving blue eyed Thing I'm sure even that's not perfect

Aunt May’s death in asm #400 was a big deal. Nobody’s denying that, but calling her return pointless misses the whole point of how comics work. Retcons are built into the medium, they’re what keep stories evolving. characters like jean grey and bucky barnes came back and their returns opened up entirely new storylines. Aunt may does the same thing. She’s not some “broken record,” she’s the human anchor that grounds peter in reality and if she fails to deliver it's a fault of the writer rather than the character. Without her, he risks turning into just another generic hero who fights villains without any connection to real life. Cutting her out wouldn’t fix anything. Instead, it would rip away one of the last threads connecting spider-man to his original supporting cast and flatten the story’s emotional core when it's already taken too many beatings as it stands.
>>
>>151365315
bringing back a dead old woman instead of using his aging wife and potential daughter as his 'anchor' is fucking backwards and retarded.
>>
>>151364730
>no key colorists have to adhere to.
Apparently that isn’t the case with Stanley Osborn. When I asked the colorist why he was depicted as white despite being biracial, I was told the guide they were given described him as a white redhead.
>>
>>151365341
FUN FACT: It doesn’t have to be some stupid either‑or situation. Peter’s a fully functional adult who can handle multiple relationships and storylines at once, and they can all play off each other in interesting ways. The only reason it doesn’t happen is because Marvel’s editorial choices keep shrinking his world instead of letting it expand. If they actually let these characters interact, you’d get stronger stories.

>Aunt May’s death in asm #400 was a big deal. Nobody’s denying that, but calling her return pointless misses the whole point of how comics work.
Or rather how they don't. Peter had no shortage of social life when this happened by the way.
>>
>>151365315
Cutting Aunt May out would have to be either sudden or a gradual decline in her cognizance like dementia. Each one fits Spider-Man in that both forms are realistic and relatable to a lot of people around the world. It doesn't need to be dragged out and overly depressing but it needs to be different and as impactful as 400. Aunt May does need to eventually die though as Spider-Man is about progression/coming-of-age and Peter seeing relatives pass away one by one is just like all of us and ushers in new characters and arcs/ideas. Lowe be damned. He would say that puts a time limit on Peter being available for readers and creators to enjoy and that isn't what should occur. But nah, that's always been the case since there is only a handful of creators at any time who can have Spidey to themselves and that is what universe resets and AU's are for if some writer wants to tackle Spidey. Main cont has to grow and develop. Otherwise, there are no stakes and I could get less of a fuck about what happens to anyone. Peter has to have the chance of losing out on shit and also feeling the pain of time being wasted or in other words wasted opportunity. That is what Gwen's death signified and why MJ stepping it had impact. It also set Peter on an interesting arc and still impacted him and MJ.

>Aunt May’s death in asm #400 was a big deal. Nobody’s denying that, but calling her return pointless misses the whole point of how comics work
Tell that to Gwen Stacy. Or Jean DeWolfe. You're intentionally being dismissive of the medium and frankly I don't think you know how comics ACTUALLY worked. Jean was a special case and Bucky was well into the 2000s which just, lol. For as much as people joke about comic death not mattering, it being as bad a joke as it is was really more a post 2000s thing. Spider-man had many character deaths to this point that not only mattered to the development of the story STUCK for a long time. If you put everything meta out of your mind and go read Spider-man since the start there is development. And lots of it.
>she’s the human anchor that grounds peter in reality and if she fails to deliver it's a fault of the writer rather than the character.
And later on that became MJ. Even before the marriage it was MJ. Aunt May wasn't really that important to the comics by that point. Pete had moved out and onward. He had a life outside of her circle.

>>151365425
Look if you want to argue that Aunt May didn't HAVE to die, I'll say sure. But she did. And it was honestly one of the best issues of that entire era. It meant something. It moved things forward. It mattered. So undoing it just to get back a status quo step is just inane.
>>
>>151365315
She did not open up new story lines! nothing post her return or post OMD involving MAY was revolutionary or "New". She exists to infantalize Peter and keep him in stasis; keep him "ground" over and over and over again.. She is literally the reason the most important Spider-Man stories can't be told in 616, that of being a father and husband.

But i guess at this point the devil won. great work everybody!
>>
>>151353021
Which makes it better than a lot of the post-OMD era
>>
>>151365425
Personally I found MJ and Aunt May interactions pretty damn good so I've never really understood why people want to get rid of either of them outside of misblaming for Mephisto shenanigans.
>>
>>151366119
Okay see you're sort of missing the problem. Nobody really WANTED to get rid of Aunt May. But she was basically just clogging up page space by this point and when they did decide to finally pull the plug it resulted in a good story that had a deep impact on the cast and world. It was the next big tent pole. Personally I'd probably have waited to let her see her grand kids but again, not the point. What we want is for something to happen. For something to matter. And even if we did have to say goodbye to a beloved aunt and mother figure, this was it. We're speaking purely from the story as written.

>>
>>151365578
This is always the problem with major retcons. They'll undo something to reset the status quo but then once we get back to where we were it was without all the depth and, for want of term, soul. Like if Pete and MJ got back together RIGHT would it really feel big? Probably not. We'd just take it and run with it, but we'd know it's cope.
>>
>>151366748
How would you define getting together right?

I kind of liked the Holiday special but I have to question who buys these things? Not really anything happens, it doesn't have any lead into anythings. It was cute but it feels like something that should eat a couple of pages of an annual, have a fight in the middle, and then end on a nice coda. Also FIVE BUCKS?!

I’d like that, but you’re right. Even if the next issues focused on getting the couple back together, my first reaction would be skepticism toward editorial rather than excitement. After the fake-out with Harry, I don’t think I could fully trust that the two of them were genuinely them and legitimate until they had been together for more than 14 real-world years. I doubted Harry’s return at first too, with Mysterio involved, but eventually I let my guard down after so many years. After that choice, I know I wouldn't be able to stop wondering if another writer might someday pull the same trick under editorial’s direction.

I think holiday comics usually get picked up by parents, casual readers, or people looking for a simple gift. I buy them myself because my little sister is young enough to still have that sense of wonder and whimsy, and I read them to her out loud before bed while pretending my dry husk of a soul can still manage "festive cheer" without ththe assistance of alcohol.
>>
>>151369011
New villains should be measured against the established ones without diminishing the threat level more often. If they can’t stand up to the older villains without anyone being jobbed, they’re too weak to credibly pose a threat to Peter.

Comics are more expensive now because everything costs more to make, they print fewer of them, and inflation is bleeding us dry.
>>
Peter would suck ass as a dad because he would always put Spider-man first instead of Mayday.
>>
>>151369929
Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 1963 was twelve cents which is $1.27 in today's money. It's definitely the print run that's doing the most to pump up the price, have to squeeze the whales for all they're worth.
>>
>>151368642
that one was really cute
>>
>>151370158
Comics have smaller print runs today because fewer people buy monthly issues, they’re limited to specialty shops, many readers wait for trades or digital, publishers avoid overprinting, but yeah, scarcity definitely boosts that old collector appeal.

I don't expect these things to cost a nickle but I feel like anything more than a couple of bucks is really taking things too far regardless of print run. We used to have zit cream ads for a reason
>>
>>151370494
Now all the ads are for their own products since people wouldn't pay for them otherwise.
>>
>>151370494
I heard ads disappeared because outside advertisers walked away when comics stopped being mass‑market magazines and became niche collectibles.
>>
>>151370620
It does feel like the potential viewers they'd get diminished greatly off the newsstand. Which they really need to somehow get back into. I know there was that whole thing diamond and shit but it's gotta happen.
>>
When will the comic industry course correct?
>>
>>151370727
Never.
>>
>>151370727
It’s not a great solution for readers who want cheaper individual physical copies, but the industry is expanding more into digital and printing expensive monthly floppies. The more popular collected volumes end up in bookstores for more appeal. Those trades are printed in larger runs for bookstores and libraries and spreads said costs across more copies.
>>
>>151371057
Doesn't this mean permanently treating 616 as persona non grata? No AU has an enough issues to be featured digitally.
