This might be the first show since Ren & Stimpy to actually get people (non-artists specifically) excited and appreciate about the artistry of what they're watching.
John K guest appearance when
>>151347895If he wasn't mega blacklisted, they absolutely would ask him to do some character designs for one episode or something. Zach seems like the only dude who probably enjoyed his couch gag.
>>151347870Seeing this show get popular doing what it's doing alongside Zach and Michael's new animation studio makes me wonder if this is how people felt when Ren & Stimpy was new, actually hopeful about the future of cartoons.
>>151347919Why is Teddy Roosevelt in the background?
>>151347870even the KEKbin hotel fans recognized Zach as the rabbit, Zach is too based so the only thing he can risk is doing a JonTron but I feel JonTron would have gone unscathed currently.
>>151347919Zach also liked Cans Without Labels apparently? I guess in an ironic way
>>151347870>get people (non-artists specifically) excited and appreciate about the artistry of what they're watching. What do you mean by this exactly? Any examples? It's not that different from what gumball does in my opinion
>>151348128The thing with Gumball is that you eventually tune out to the mixed media because you've grown accustomed to it and accept it as just "that's the TV show, Gumball". Smiling Friends constantly reminds people they're watching not only a cartoon, but something visually interesting. It frequently uses the animation itself as the punchline and makes audiences who normally don't think about the animation medium very aware that they're watching something particularly special. The same way that comedians and TV comedy writers will talk about how they watched Ren & Stimpy and noticed there was something very different about that cartoon compared to everything else at the time, I think the same thing is happening again with Smiling Friends. Those aren't the type of people who will typically notice something about a cartoon other than, "It looks good" or "It looks bad".
>>151348241>The same way that comedians and TV comedy writersI should've said "future comedians and TV writers".
Gumball is also a children's cartoon and unfortunately children's cartoons generally have more freedom to fuck around in the west.I'm having a hard time thinking of a modern adult western cartoon that's just as fun as Smiling Friends.
>>151347870Why is it succeeding where modern SpongeBob is failing?
>>151348007>but I feel JonTron would have gone unscathed currentlyDasha from Red Scare just got blacklisted.
>>151348409Spongebob is still pulling in the ratings and has people who appreciate it. I constantly see people say that Spongebob and Patrick Show are some of the last cartoons that actually want to be a cartoon. It just seems to have a divide in old audiences vs. new audiences. It's kind of like Sonic who has two versions: Classic and Adventure, and both have their fans and neither one is particularly right when they say, "THIS version of Sonic is BETTER!".
>>151348409Smiling Friends is newer and still has its creators at the helm. Feels more like an inspired vision and a passion project because of that.
>>151348420Which was retarded because it's not like she was agreeing with Nick Fuentes. All this censorship of him from youtube and spotify is just going to cause him more attention due to the streisand effect
>>151348409it's simple - nubob is written for children
>>151348241gumball did it first and is less predictable, but I see your point
>>151347870I really love this promotional art, so cute!!
>>151348241That drug trip sequence was totally wicked
>>151348326Its cause a lot of those lean more towards writing than cartooning
