>Had an incredibly good start with All Dogs Go To Heaven, LBT and An American Tail>Later career got shat on with box office failures>A Troll in Central Park made ONLY $71k, having no promotion at allWhat exactly did Don Bluth so dirty?
>>151348913Secret of Nihm got a bunch of good reviews and did well in theaters, but it still bankrupt the company. Sometimes things are just unfair like that. But Spielberg saw the potential, and that's how the next films got made. But when you work with money people, you are compromised to some extent.
>>151348913>>151349084Don Bluth admits he regrets parting ways with Spielberg.
>>151349084>>151349173Where is he now, btw? Still trying to finish Dragon's Lair?
>>151349737he passed away 3 hours ago, it just hasnt been announced yet
>>151350121Anon, I swear to god
>>151348913>A Troll in Central Park made ONLY $71k, having no promotion at allhow is that even possible? did the studio only release it in one city?
>>151350478Apparently it was just that bad
>>151348913He should of pursued his more darker and out there animations. There was a growing market for it around the time too. Especially things like Secret of Nimh styled works. It seemed like everything leading up to Titan A.E. sunk whatever was left of his will to animate. Things like Banjo the Cat was where he seemed to shine the best in his own style and pacing. But I think he tried to parallel some of Disney's audience a little too much sometimes and that might of sunk him, since from a normie perspective it looks like knock-off Disney. >>151350478>>151351112Cancerous even if it did get the promotional marketing.
>>151348913His good movies were made when Spielberg was the creative lead and all stories needed his direct sigh off and approval through every step of the production process. The MINUTE Don got total creative freedom, his movies turned to shit. To the point where he was taking his name off the completed product. He is just really bad at narrative design. But he was a freedom freak and could not stand having anyone above him in the process so he fumbled until he broke his own studio. Which in turn broke Ireland's animation industry for about 30 years.
>OP pretends not to know a man's career just so he can start the thread with a question
>>151348913His animation golden age was during the 80s, but went downhill during the 90s.
>>151348913>A Troll in Central Park made ONLY $71kHave you seen that movie? This seems high honestly.
>>151349737He runs online animation classes that you have to pay top dollar for.
>>151351164Met him at a con last Summer. Told him his studio would have made a great animated Hitman special. Showed him pictures, he was actually surprised to see Superman.
>>151348913Who had the biggest fall from grace, Bluth or Bakshi?
>>151353713Definitely Don Bluth since he was once mainstream and could even release works comparable to Gisnep at its peak.
>>151352754Huh really?
>>151350183Not that anon, but I honestly though he WAS dead.
>>151348913>What exactly did Don Bluth so dirty?
Was Rock A Doodle his tipping point?
>>151349084You can have all the GrubHub slop you want, though!
>>151356166Yeah, he asked, “So this is a DC character?”
>>151356432I wanted to have him sign American Tail, and have him sign “There are no cats in America.” But all I could find was this.
imagine if he wouldve had a film ready to go when disney pushed out that wish abortionhe wouldve been a hero
>>151356476His signature is so pretty~
>>151353713Bluth, Bluth was far more mainstream than Bakshi ever was, I'm saying this as someone who prefers Bakshi.
>>151352498It’s beautiful animation but the story is … something. It’s like Carebears recreated by people who hate Carebears.
>>151353713Animation is a rough business . Walt said you could get two or three movies out of someone before they went insane and needed to be shifted to something less stressful.
>>151356408Don’t diss on Luca.
I did not care for All Dogs Go To Heaven. I watched it for the first time a few months ago and to me the film just across like a worse version of Oliver and Company, which is usually held in lower regard.I have a love hate thing with many of Don's movies. I can't decide whether or not the character designs are good or repellant.
>>151351431This
>>151356274Rock and Doodle is a fever dream. Great opening song though.
>>151358673Why not?
>>151359982Charlie willingly gave up his immortality to save the little girl knowing all that awaited him after his death was hell and eternal torment.
>>151350478Warner Bros had no faith in the film at all and released it limited with no promotion.
>>151360061I mean, if you want to get into it, Christian faith(yes, I know Don is a Mormon) pretty much states that as long as you believe in Christ and accept him as your savior, you are absolved of sin and will go to heaven.
>>151352527I heard he and the teachers don't even run the place properly with good feedback or lessons
Just a hunch, but I think someone working on his movies had a little bit of a vore fetish.
>>151360421There's zero proof
I heard executives made him tone down the darker stuff, don't know how true it is
>>151351431interested to know more of how he broke his company.
>>151348913he had no idea what he was doing but the fortune of being born to a generation who could repeatedly afford to fuck up based on their own prejudicesif he'd had his way at Disney there would have been no rennaissance in the 1990s just furshit
>>151356408Turning red was legit good
>>151360520Oh, MY...
>>151358659>two or three moviesHold my sake
>>151356273unironically if you prefer Don Bluth over these movies you're a furry
>>151350121
>>151353713Bakshi had a shorter fall since he never rose as high in terms of mainstream opinion. Most people know Bluth films. Bakshi has more of a cult following.
>>151348913So was Bluth a furry and into the cute and funny. I've seen his movies, and the vibe seems undeniable ...
>>151353713Bluth, he made movies that made more money than Disney and embarrassed them at the time. Plus he had something to fall from. Bakshi was more of an edgy asshole that made mature shit and his greatest claim to fame was inventing the need for the MPAA to invent the X rating.
>>151364427>Bluth, he made movies that made more money than Disneydid he
>>151364514Yes American Tail and Land Before Time outperformed Disney. Which caused problems within Disney Animation since no other studio has ever challenged them before.
