Why did Vilgax even want to Omnitrix when he was stronger than any alien in it outside of Alien X and Clockwork?
>>
He wanted it for an army not for himself to wield as a weapon

Because he wanted to use it to turn his whole army into transforming alien warriors.

Atomix would kick his ass, also

Pretty sure waybig folded him so if an alien is big/ strong enough they can beat/overpower vilgax. I would also chalk it up to Ben being a young kid for most of his loses to vilgax, as he got older he got better at fighting vilgax.

He wasn’t always roided out

If you had the power to wank it as every other alien in existance, you would chase it too

Wasn't that an Ultimate Alien retcon?

No. In the original series he mentioned that as well. It was either when he was talking about why he wanted the watch when teaming up with Kevin that one time or when he was gloating to Ben after capturing that first time he came to earth.
