>>151358710>>151359808That's why I still don't get the hate for Season 3. It went all in on portraying Rick as the villain and exploring how toxic he can be to the family. The parents' separation brought about a more tense vibe since we were directly experiencing its consequences, but we still got some of Rick and Morty's funniest jokes in this batch. IMO it felt like a natural evolution of the show without sacrificing humor. Vindicators and Froopyland were the only misfires. Everything else was fun.

They show a heavily toxic influence on the family and Rick being an asshole, but it's undercut by the fact that Rick isn't really shown to be a loser. Him, and by extension the family as influenced by him, are basically always able to come ahead and look down on someone else no matter the situation (with very few exceptions like the end of Pickle Rick). S3 is filled with a lot of Rick being wrong but not being wholly presented as such, and paired with the rest of the hyping up they give him that season, it feeds into the whole "Rick's just the best so you can suck it" nonsense insteadThat being said, the greater issue with S3 is that most of it just sucks in general

The writers definitely made the mistake of getting Rick to be too overpowered out of nowhere, but he was still very much humbled here and there. An ambitious albeit divisive season, but one I can respect far more than whatever they're trying with these latest seasons after running the Lore Well dry.
