Face any kind of real challenge? Her job is to collect the results from all the other actual scientists and make them available to the god-AI running the place. The only reason Claire has any "authority" is because no one was checking before that the scientists were actually doing science, and not just embezzling funding or making emus invisible for shits and giggles.

The jellyfish is fairly secretive about the degree to which it's pulling the strings and why, so having an easily manipulated human that it knows is prone to anxiety and micromanagement of shit that doesn't matter is a great smokescreen for it to have a plausible vector for disseminating/gathering information it already had.

Claire's job is to curate research and data for the sake of the other scientists at Cubetown, which has the side effect of also making it obvious which researchers are just fucking around because suddenly their output is being tracked and made available for replication.

There was no discussion of their mutual needs, wants, mistakes, and path forwards. This was all but a title card saying "and then they moved on" with as little context and substance as possible.
