Andy's training felt weirdly simultaneously rushed and way too slow. Ten episode first season so I get the need to rush things a bit but it really didn't make the best of its time. I think it may have benefited from having Bertie be the season finale fight maybe. Could have dedicated more time to show Andy training and excuse her explosive growth while also exploring the world and lean more into the idea of Bertie being a bad end Andy. Also fuck the Perfect Strike move is so damn lame. Having the whole first season be about her trying to learn that one damn move sucked. It does have another big problem, though, and one that's much worse in my opinion for this kind of show:
The power and stamina systems make no sense. Andy is a string bean with no training then suddenly she can lift and fuck up a 400 pound monster, meanwhile plenty of other characters her size act like them doing so would be physically impossible and bigger characters are shown weight/strike training.
Despite being a tween girl accountant Andy can take more punishment than fucking Ippo, getting up after being literally mangled, meanwhile way bigger and stronger characters get KO'd by one ok punch

It really was weird. They sped past the learning the basics part of the training arc and just jumped into her being able to fight heavy hitters from the get. Then dragged their feet with her trying to learn the instant kill move of all fucking things. It's the complete reverse of how it should have gone. And a big kill move is just a bad idea anyway. To compare it to the series the creator even referenced, it would be like if by the end of the second episode Ippo had somehow managed to beat Miyata or Sendo (main rivals) and then spent the rest of the series trying to learn the perfect Dempsey Roll. Remove the perfect strike thing. Just have Andy wanting to train under Poblana because she looked up to her and she was a champion. Having the big goal be one big dumb ass instant win move is lame. Have Andy struggle more. Give her some almost wins but having her win her first big fight and almost every fight after that really roughed things up. If she has to win that first fight to set up Immaculate losing it then play closer to rules of wrestling and have her win on a technicality against Immaculate while he's fine and she's a beaten mess. Could even be a decent setup if that one win gives her a big head that gets popped and grounded down into the ground when she has her next fight. Let her first real win feel big by it being the first breakthrough she made. Let her scrappiness shine through by the fact she keeps at it even after losing and losing. Have better control over the tone. The violent shift between the Perm Gang beating up and attacking everyone and then all the other accountants comically throwing garbage at the Perm Gang really deflated the moment and it can't really risk having that kind of mood killers with such a short run time of a ten episode first season. I'm not saying you can't have jokes but balance them out better without ruining the tension and dramatic energy the fights and emotional moments are trying to build up. Honestly the tone and the insane growth of Andy was the two things I didn't really like about the show. Andy herself is cute and I want to root for her but when she wins pretty much everything it feels less impactful. The wrestling world is dumb but fine. It can work on Mucha Lucha or Yu-Gi-Oh levels where everything revolves around one thing. That's fine. Just explore the world more and let being a wrestler, the big thing about the world, feel hard and earned when Andy gets it.

There's no telling. But it's been a year since the first season premiered and we've gotten no word one way or the other. The thing is even outside of just anime their are a lot of western wrestling shows they could have played off of like just the most basic is mucha lucha. Literally has simplistic designs but they work because they all have unique natures skills and use great color schemes and vibes like real luchadors. Frankly I think trying to make it an action comedy is part of the problem. Slapstick requires a lack of consequence and a lack of consequence means people will check out because there are no stakes. You can have funny moments sure, but selling the audience on the adventure and threats matters way more in action stories.

It wasn't good, but it flopped because simply WB didn't have any faith in it and never really marketed it to begin with. Disney, as bad as they are, at least marketed their shows (the bare minimum but still). Even the bad press Owl House got helped it get a base, but it still needed to be initially supported by Disney. I don't think anyone even heard of IFG, not even when it was airing. I only heard of it because I'm particularly interested in it. And it was in dev limbo for a while now. It really should've been a CN show but we all know how that story ended. So, many reasons why the show ended up flopping. Sucks but it is what it is. Bertie is still my favorite recent cartoon girl

Because the creator referenced Ippo as one of his inspirations and Ippo is a pretty sizable series. Trying to draw inspiration from it would be a good idea since it did Ippo's beginning very well. Tiger Mask would have probably also been a good idea to borrow from to get the big personalities right. I think it depends on how well they can balance the tone. If they have good writing then having humor and drama can enhance both of them. The momenta of humor can draw you closer to the characters which makes the drama even more impactful since you can care about these characters. Actually this is a great idea for a re-write def feel bertie is one of the best parts of the show. Only other note is not making her parents such a joke it kills the tension and trauma of her back story when we see her parents goofy ass posing and talking after beating their daughter and running her out of town such a shitty tonal shift

Yeah that sounds interesrting. Gives Bertie and Andy more reason to fight and creates a parallel between them. Andy the dreamer new to the wrestling world and Bertie more aware of it. Life long skill from someone raised by wrestlers and someone who's a messy beginner raised by accountants. Someone still believing in wrestling as their dream and someone who's life has been fucked by it. Bertie was already one of the better, if not the best, character bits from the show so tying it deeper to the show could have been good. And it gives a sort of overarching plot line beyond just "become a wrestler" that Andy had in the show.
