I still say the best version of the plot is the one that lives in my head, where everything happened basically the same as in the movie until we get to the "revelation," at which point it's revealed that Chelsea's doing what her own Racist Grandma is telling her to do, and is having second thoughts because Ruby doesn't seem like the horrible usurper that mer-grandma insists the Krakens are.Sure "the two kids reject racism" is a cliche in 2025. So what? It's about how you tell the story. Shakespeare's plays were filled with things that were cliches at the time - hell, he grabbed stories that were already popular and said "nice story, here's my own spin on it."
