At the end of the day Cartoon Network is a business, and Teen Titans GO was a huge success for Cartoon Network (which reminder, is mostly targeted towards kids). It's no surprise they got a theatrical movie, even if the Internet is a bigger fan of stuff like Adventure Time or Steven Universe.

Nta but ttg has two kind of stories: ones that don't take themselves seriously and the ones that are just action. Gumball has silly stories, stories filled with irony and "emotional, complex and serious" stories that the fans and the creator hype up as unique among kids cartoons.
