I think it would be cool if a series did this only to have the character stay visibly muscular at the end and then just look like that for the rest of the series.
>>151595735Cartoon writers are often of a certain mindset. The realities of cause and effect along with results you can see and feel that are entirely on your own choices and discipline cause erosion to that mindset. They cannot have viewers being told anything other than that mindset.

It's the same reason Homer has to become bald again with the episode where he gets a full head of hair. It's usually more about not having permanent changes, rather than seriously intending any sort of ideological message.
