>Turns Transformers into diet Steven Universe with horrible mech designs.
>Fanbase that consists only of terminally online xitter users act surprised when people hate it, and flops for being total boy-repellant on a mid streaming service.

What were they thinking? Im fucking glad this shit is done but are we ever going to get a decent TF show again? The last genuinely good cartoon was animated and that was all the way back during the infancy of bayformers.
>>
Cyberworld is already airing.

>are we ever going to get a decent TF show again
No. Bay destroyed this franchise beyond repair. Literally nothing good has come from it since 2007 and nothing ever will.
>b-b-but transformers one!

Most of X dot com did not actually like Earthspark. Even people who liked S1 are extremely sour on it by now. Genuinely what the fuck even happened. I liked a few of the concepts and themes in TFES but most of it was soooooo boringgggg. Or cringe. Very cringe. Toddler show so I didn't expect much, I thought it was fine for what it was. And it still disappointed me. It just kept degrading. I was willing to accept it up to season 3 but the new specials felt personally insulting. They should have pulled the plug when S1 flopped.
I hope the terrans appear in more stuff even if they just become normal cybertronians thoughever. B-Negative briefly appeared in another comic even after the new warriors thing. It can't be over... (copium)
>are we ever getting a decent TF show again
Though it is not for me, Skybound TF is "good" and allegedly getting animated. Sometime. But I don't think we're getting any good stuff outside of toys in a while. TFONE was great and yet it flopped. It converted a few of my friends, at least.

My ass, nerd. He revitalized it. The issue was all these white bitches and their white knight dorks pushing for more gay shit. You want Transformers to be cool again? Make it unabashedly heterosexual. You want boys to tune in? Make an anime.

I thought the first season was okay. It had some interesting ideas and the animation was pretty good. What held it back for me was the dumbed down dialogue that over explained everything.

Hearing that season 2 got rid of those ideas and had worse animation made me skip the rest.

nightshade is poisonous.

you could say

Earthspark was killed by nightshade.

Consider the series without the pronoun scene and how fan perception and feedback would have stayed high even with the hellishly deep lows it has after S1.
>>
>>151612665
Cybertron had good designs but no one cared about it because the stakes were laughably low compared to Energon, every threat outside of Megatron was so nebulous.
Cybertron having no clear overarching Bad is as big a fuck up as Transtech detaching itself from Beast Wars and Beast Machines despite bringing over its characters
>>
>>151617581
I read Aligned novels before I watched Cybertron and I wish Megatron earnestly tried to rule with Velocity. Unfortunately, he was written for an anime.

>>

So now that Earthspark has flopped

What is the absolute worst thing Bay or whoever's going to do Energon's cartoon could do?

>>
>>151617865

>>
>>151617888
The official channel hasn't posted a single Earthspark video in a long time, not even to promote the finale.

It's all Prime and Animated reuploads.

I haven't seen something this openly disregarded by the company since Hi-Fi Rush was shadowdropped with a single ad and dropped by Microsoft.

Though given the adult show, it might get its own channel, or promoted by Paramount/whatever it's being hosted on.
>>
>>151618028
They should just do another season of Animated. All the VAs are still alive, I think. We know there's a plot for a fourth season sitting in mothballs, hell even a fifth season. It would bring in the nostalgiabucks from Millennials and Zoomers.

Also Swinde's va is dead. A shame because he was actually the best version of him, though I do like IDW's
>>
>>151618200
I think their problem is that the shilling comes at the cost of a good series. They want Prime 2.0, or given the length, Cyberverse 3.0

Take Energon/Cybertron for example.

It was all about the toys and completely killed off the story Armada had. I like Cyberworld a lot. I like the plastic feel to the textures, and I like that the show isn't trying to be something it's not, deep. It has its serious moments but the show was made from the ground up to be silly and a toy ad. ES couldn't decide what it wanted to be between Mae Cat's open gay agenda (their words) and hasbro's corporat one
>>
>>151618144
>>151618205
The stakes were lower than 3, was clear it was written to sell toys first, create an engaging story second. Only good thing to come of it was Megatron getting a redesign that referenced Beast Machines. Animated also started the trend of Megawank and erasure of Galvatron
>>
>>151618288
>Animated also started the trend of Megawank and erasure of Galvatron
pretty sure that was hasbro who wanted Megatron as the villain, forever, from fan blind investors.

That said, Galvatron came back in the Netflix series and is in Cyberworld. He's narratively just a hard sell and design wise appeals to toy onlies.
>>

>>
>>151618371
I wish. I'd be able to afford flame toys rodimus

As reformatted Megatron, and if you're cloning G1's version, you introduce a character who's supposed to be the same character that acts nothing like the one they came from. Armada did it well by making it Megatron's choice and his view of Optimus does not change nor does his personality.

Netflix tried to copy G1 and it made no sense but the whole series was sloppily written. Which leaves Cyberworld. I think Galvatron as someone separate works a hell of a lot better than making it the same guy. Because the change in G1 was a new toy for shelves, not paying homage to anything like Megs' original body

Hopefully this'll teach Hasbro and anyone else making a TF cartoon that basing a show on IDW's post-war comics is a bad idea and they'll never attempt it again.
>>
>>151618607
ES came out in what, 2021/2? Close enough to IDW2 to be relevant and Cyberverse was still fresh. IDW in general was relevant enough to still be of use as a base.

Now it's obvious anything associated with IDW is a speedrun to a financial loss and upset parents.
>>
Was the series so bad not even /co/ gives a shit? The board that nonstop posts about Hazbin and Smiling Friends?

It seems quite odd that a long running franchise gets nothing but ded threads and a currently finished gets even less than that.

Being a tumblr show for gays isn't a reason either, Steven Universe, She ra and Voltron did just fine topic wise
>>
>>151619474
>Being a tumblr show for gays isn't a reason either
Even the gays stopped liking it after the change in writers in the second season. There's not much to engage with anymore, not even for outrage farming, it's a show that appeals to nobody.
It's pretty telling that the fourth "season" was met with a collective shrug.
>>
>>151619614
>it's a show that appeals to nobody.
as much as I hate to see a 14 year old's opinion, its main defenders appear to be 12-17 year old kids. Which, I suppose it is doing its job to appeal to children. But they're not buying the toys which means the whole show is useless.

It tried to appeal to everyone in the most clumsy way imaginable. G1 references/adjacent designs, IDW writing, Armada's tone and the one thing it did right (animation) it somehow did wrong with the human designs.

No one was appealing.

Who wants to fuck Dot? You've got Alex who's the best character but is too emasculated to be relatable. Shloder who's nowhere close to Fowler or Fanzone. His ugly karen sister. Mandroid who's not even allowed to be somewhat interesting. And side characters who appeal to people that draw Japanese characters Jewish and brown.

It's a bit upsetting how easily the show could have had success if mae cat was simply not there. Because insecure gender obsessed liberals hate attractive characters. It's a bizarre phenomenon as anything they make goes out of its way to make everyone as unapealing to wider audiences as possible, and they always flop (unless it's normal gays making it.)

Anon I liked IDW. When it was written by anyone but JRO and had Milne as the lead artist plus windblade

I just specifically hate JRO and the ending. Tarn was the one thing he did right and even then he fumbled because of the rush and soon to be end of the run for its reboot.

IDW's piss poor sales, Earthspark outrage, and by extension Cyberverse, killed a lot of interest that could have been gained between 2018 to 2024. One flopping and Hasbro still refusing to advertises anything isn't going to magically get people interested.

Hasbro has not made any genuine attempts to keep the franchise relevant for years.
>cartoons are just cheap CGI with bottom of the barrel writers, like they're on some kind of race to the bottom with pre-school shows like Paw Patrol.

>Video games have been nothing but mobile slop for years. Their last big attempt was handed over to a no-name studio that promptly collapsed and cancelled the whole thing.
Hasbro depended on the bayverse to print money for so long that when that well dried up they had no idea what to do anymore. Transformers is still one of Hasbro's headlining franchises but God forbid they invest any real money into it.

Bayverse in general has a good world. Despite the novels getting retconned, the comics add enough context to where they could have kept going.

I also like Bay Galvatron because the redesign was a human error. Not only that, his lack of sanity is both like G1 while still being clearly him. Too bad they never made comics after 3. Because Earth with no Optimus while the bots get settled is a lot better than jumping to Hound, Drift and Crosshairs just being there

Not sure why they gave OP a bust bigger than Pamela Anderson's and a tiny waist but I think the redesign could have won people over if he had Knight Meg's porportions.

Improvements that the loudest fans will not say and will get your post blacklisted anywhere else.

Make the human attractive. And I don't even really mean fuckable, just not ugly.

Francine was the first black transformer kid and she looked rather cute. The entire Rescue Bot human cast ranged from charming to average. The show runners at ES designed like they wanted a cast of ugly people. But ugly people don't sell. Even Ha Ha, You Clown's intentionally ugly art style has a charm that's marketable thanks to the series' humor. It's not dumblr ugly.

And the worst writing can be forgiven if the characters themselves are marketable (hazbin.)

Include all of the bots, including Elita. Wheeljack was kind of there and gone despite being 'dad two.' They wanted OP to have 'romantic entanglements' with Elita and did nothing with it. straight romance slop will always sell. Even if it's poorly written, it will always sell.

Change all the genderbent characters back. Cull the Terrans to Twitch, Thrash and Jawbreaker as the punching bag. You can have every Hashtag and Nightshade episode with those three because they're effectively the same character anyways. Give HT's tech smarts to Twitch, Nightshade's science smarts to Jawbreaker as a Bulkhead callback, and Thrash can be Robbie's clone.

There, show's not stellar but it would have done better.

This is why I insist Bayformers was ultimately worse for the franchise even if it did help grow it. It was like when a steady restaurant or business attempts to expand franchises only to be unable to meet that level consistently.
The franchise wasn't as big but it wasn't as it would be later--but not at risk of dying.
Aaron Archer said it best that it was like building up a house. A small house can take more risks and changes, but a big house starts needing consistency and maintenance. When Optimus and Bumblebee became big movie marquee names globally, Hasbro stopped wanting to take risks on making Optimus diverge from the movie ideal or not having Bumblebee. In the 2000's they could take risks they didn't want them to take anymore by the 2000s.
>>
>>151624255
when you make a whole first season that the evil racist humans are treating the Decepticons like shit and incarcerating them only to then go ok yeah GHOST is gone, we can do whatever we want again.

but it did genuinely get worse from there, Starscreamfags really ate up the woobiefication but then to go back on that and have Starscream still cry and play victim, i mean its classic Starscream shit. Starscream got what he deserved.

but its absolutely insane though how the series ended with Megatron Megatron dies only to be resurrected but now has no memories of his time as a good guy so he's a bad guy again and everyone's like, come on lets go save Megatron as if they were gonna sequel bait for it.

>Animated never again because of Bay
The best version of a lot of characters gone forever because of Bay and Prime.

Cyberworld is the closest we've got to an actual split with redesigns, Optimus getting a new, young voice that isn't trying to impersonate cullen at all, and humor that doesn't border on worship.

Optimus reminds me of Elsa. Disney is strict with her image and basically will only allow anyone using her to treat her as a cardboard cut out. They'd make it so she doesn't even talk or move from a single spot if they could and that's what Optimus has been going through. G1 design only. Deep commander voice only. Fatherly presence only. Until now
>>
>>151624371
>The entire Rescue Bot human cast ranged from charming to average. The show runners at ES designed like they wanted a cast of ugly people.
here's the kicker. Rescue Bots and Earthspark's first season had the same show runner in Nicole Dubuc. the art style of the show really did not translate into the CG animation, like when Nick Roche's designs are drawn in 2D they look rather nice but it absolutely does not translate into 3D at all.
>Include all of the bots, including Elita. Wheeljack was kind of there and gone despite being 'dad two.' They wanted OP to have 'romantic entanglements' with Elita and did nothing with it. straight romance slop will always sell. Even if it's poorly written, it will always sell.
it's super funny for how badly written Earthspark is for the most part, Optimus and Elita actually having a healthy working relationship is genuinely one of the best parts and its still undercooked. the MegOp shippers are nuts and very much ignore its canon this Optimus has feelings for Elita.

If you do that, you remove the "Unicron eats decepticon home world and enslaves it's inhabitants" plotline.

A reformat of a few of the cooler deceptcons into Unicron thrall's or unicron spawn would open the door for more toy options and combine to take on the ultimate badguy ending.

>Change all the genderbent characters back. Cull the Terrans to Twitch, Thrash and Jawbreaker as the punching bag. You can have every Hashtag and Nightshade episode with those three because they're effectively the same character anyways. Give HT's tech smarts to Twitch, Nightshade's science smarts to Jawbreaker as a Bulkhead callback, and Thrash can be Robbie's clone.
oh my god, absolutely this. the moment we ended up with 5 Terrans within 10 episodes of the first season, it really began to limit all the possibilities because as a team they lack a good cohesion. Hashtag is honestly grating IMO and Nightshade became a PR disaster, Jawbreaker i genuinely like even if he's retarded, we need more retard good guys. i think he's got a better shot of being reused again cause he can just be a Dinobot. I think Thrash should've leaned harder in the bad boy persona, like actually have him go rogue and join the Decepticons, basically be the Sasuke of the show but better. He had a really cool black and red colour scheme in the concept phase that screams bad boy. he shouldn't have ended up as LOK's Mako, the cool bad boy that devolved into a wet blanket.
>Change all the genderbent characters back.
I honestly have to disagree, female Skywarp and Frenzy were honestly aight. its just that they didn't really do anything too worthwhile with them outside of that seeker fight in season 1 or Frenzy and Laserbeak's peanut gallery dynamic like they're Statler and Woldorf, the show needed more that.

I saw the comic art and Mo especially is very cute in 2D. But it was the model team's fault for giving them freakishly large eyes. Scaling the eyes down, and adding darker lines around them like eye liner would have improved everyone.

picrelated still looks like a freak but the eyes alone are an improvement to be more girlish as well as appealing

As for shippers, the staff of these shows are also shippers anon. Watch any panel from a convention, or talk to them in person. They ship them.

First of all. Elsa is shit and no one fucks with selfish dyke who fucks her sister while her citizens freeze to death.

Secondly, why in the FUCK would you change what works?
Optimous prime is iconic and works and sells.
You don't change the recipe because some cocksucker ate too much and wants to eat something different.
I think I'm tired of your award winning formula that's made you billionaires. Please change the taste so that I can continue to eat it.
Do you understand why that's fucking stupid.
That's why you bring in OTHER CHARACTERS.
Other characters who don't have working formula iconography that new generations of children and adults who grew up with it will both like.

If you want different fucking read the oft fuck awful comics or some losers fanfic...which is often the comics.

Let's put batman in a fucking dog costume and call him mr.woofins. It's still batman we just changed things up for a new audience.

I agree with you about Skywarp and Frenzy, however, it's more of a PR move and doing what TF did best, appealing to boys. These shows don't actually need a lot of female characters. Elita and Arcee are there. I can't think of a genderbend that was a real improvement besides TFA Red Alert.

>That said, Galvatron came back in the Netflix series and is in Cyberworld. He's narratively just a hard sell and design wise appeals to toy onlies.
I don't get this. Galvatron's design is pretty cool. G1 Megatron's design is the one that's more dated and rarely used as close as the g1 version. Modern Megatrons keep the color and the helmet but change a lot of the design unless it's the G1 based toylines. I do agree that it's a narrative thing. He requires something drastic to happen to Megatron, and that needs to be along with something happening to Optimus, and they aren't willing to do that.
>>151618466
>Because the change in G1 was a new toy for shelves, not paying homage to anything like Megs' original body
The G1 toy definitely has aspects of the G1 Megatron toy. The crown, the cannon, and the colors being white all point to referencing Megatron.

its funny i never really felt like Red Alert worked better female personally but then again i'm somehow who has an idea for a new female medic character for my own continuity.

granted reasons why i like female Skywarp and Frenzy. with Frenzy its so you can actually make Frenzy and Rumble more distinct, Rumble can be the male one (and blue one) and Frenzy the girl and red one.

and Skywarp, my plans for her is to essentially turn her into Hexadecimal from ReBoot, the scary (yet arousing) unhinged psycho.

i think Robby is honestly about as bad of a human protagonist as Kicker was but Kicker at least on paper is interesting. Robby just feels insanely entitled and dull. the only time i ever felt bad for him was how Izzy catfished him and then the new specials put him back to being a jackass.
>>
>>151624690
but /is it working?
Transformers holds up in relevance with an older crowd but do kids care?
No ones saying make Optimus a lime green boat, it's more like let Optimus have a supermode or combine with others and maybe be a firetruck now and then.
And the point about new characters is moot because we barely get those anyway.
And ironically the comics are even less different. It's all basically G1 designs right now.
>>
>>151624840
Anon, when was the last time a basic bitch G1 optimous was done in a cartoon or show aimed at kids.
I mean just legitimate optmious with now clever subversions or anything.

As for new characters...you get those in nearly every single new incarnation. Or just a new personality inside of vaguely recognizable versions of old characters.

Robby's problem was that he was written as the MC of an anime, but the series forced him to share with the entire cast.

A lot like Kicker come to think of it.

Energon and ES are top worst transformers series and share so many traits. With the best female character in the worst show (Misha and Dorothy)

Rescue Bots gave OP his gold eyes and a Dinobot mode. Honestly, I liked the designs. The smoketacks being visible make the look come together and it being too unstable to use was something fresh. A lot like the beast mode episode in BW.
>>
>>151624886
It depends what your definition of basic G1 influence is.
Some people, and I take it you're one of these, are hardline where unless it's straight up G1 with the exact design, faceplate up all the time, it's not the same.
But I'd wager for most people stuff like alt-modes being about the same as G1, same hallmarks of the robot mode design, no gimmicks
I'm sure you can argue otherwise but compared to the UT era, earthspark Optimus is just another permutation of G1 Optimus. so was Cyberverse, so was Prime for most of the show, besides the monowindow so is cyberworld. They share similar personalities too. Sure they might have different proportions and they show off the mouths these days, but ultimately there's less of a change than their used to be. It's like the same design in different styles.

>>151624989
nta but Cyberworld's been smart about re-using G1 because the characters all feel like fresh takes despite using similar traits.

Elita's military minded while acting like Bee's sibling. Bee's as cocky as ever while being very forward with OP (hasn't been that way since Animated and all his other versions basically worship him)

Grimlock is his Marvel comics self but less dumb, and actually isn't that dumb. And Mirage is so much like ROTB Mirage. ROTB may not be that old, but when was the last time an autobot was presented as actually playing both sides (paying homage to his G1 episode.)

I'd like for them to re-attempt Hearts of Steel or a line like it.

Other comics have different era universes like Noir, Steampunk and futuristic. TF as a whole leans towards current year vehicles even when on their own planet. Airachnid's drone form is relative to Earth drones as is OP's truck form in One. But even if it's a one off comic like the 1/2 issue series- I'd like to see them blend in to new environments.

>>151625209
In my ideal version of the series, it would honestly just be Dot, Alex and the kids uninvolved or babies/toddlers. That way when Karen/Mandroid come to her house to find Bee or the Terrans, there's actually a stake relatable for all viewers. You get kid friendly family shit with Thrash learning to not break things by playing with them, but also, the series can focus on the actual story without the children being in the way
>>
>>151625243
honestly that would be better.

speaking of Croft, can we talk about the fact the show basically whitewashes her crimes as if she wasn't supposed to be a hate sink character, i get that like her and Schloder are family but like she was a genuine piece of shit, finding out she was also a mom later on and that everything in the finale happens because Schloder couldn't be more discreen and tell Olive her mom actually died is absolutely baffling. I know Schloder is supposed to be retarded but like goddamn.

also if i had written Croft, i would've essentially made her a Amanda Waller/Harold Attinger type, a deep state agent who actually is purposefully trying to start shit again with the Decepticons, she wants Megatron as a villain again in order to perpertuate the military industrial complex, GHOST would've had their budgets slashed because supposed peace isn't good for business. that's honestly what i thought her deal was when i saw the season 1 plot synopsis list but nah she's just a crazy Transformers racist like Mandroid but with even less of a reason and yet we're supposed to feel bad because Mandroid murders her after she was using him.

Call me paranoid but I got the same feeling about her and Shloder as She-ra did with the one human white male character. Schizo theory but. Ken?

Basically, the evil het white person.

She was never a threat, she was just an easy target to indeed, hate. Because why was she presented as so evil when her followers (tumblr designs) weren't nearly as heartless. Schizo theory but she felt like a target for the writers.

But from a non-schizo theory, they may have been trying to re-create Silas split between her and Mandroid. And given the IDW influence, the people who ripped Sunstreaker open. The evil human military. But unlike both sects, there was nothing of substance that explained why or how they did what they did. They just did. Then tried to walk it back while forgetting to make tracks to even start from.

She was a nothing character. Her bitch attitude made no sense, why she did anything was as defined as water and just as tasteless. She and dot could have bonded over being moms, maybe have her jealous of Dorothy having Alex as she doesn't wear a wedding ring or have anyone she seems to want to protect or want to protect her (besides her brother who she clearly hates, for some reason.)
>>
>>151625388
Only Chinese fujos are happy because they skip scenes and didn't even watch the show. They just timestamp moments where they're together and skip the rest.

As someone who never cared about the IDW version of him, I still think it's dumb because it just happened out of nowhere. Not a thing they built up.
>>
>>151625503
Didn't Megatron try to genocide humanity and almost kill Optimus in this when some rando friend of his died because he was killed by humans who were in the middle of a war?
Seemed more like Megs was still a rotten asshole and the "peace" he had with Optimus crumbled the moment something bad happened.
>>
>>151625579
the fact her name is Karen tells me they really wanted her to be a hate sink but then the fact she's still a woman overode their logic circuits so she still had to be a victim even if its her own damn fault. but what i found so crazy about Croft is her debut episode she is a background character and then her next appearance she's also sus as fuck, its like going from 0 to 180 within an episode and you're right. she clearly acts like she doesn't like her brother at all when they were onscreen together, they don't even look like they would be related, thats why it caught me off guard when its casually mentioned. the fact she turned out to have a daughter is still insane to me, she does not act like a mom and she clearly wasn't one. there's so much about Earthspark that doesn't feel fleshed out in the slightest Olive is obviously a major retcon, and it also doesn't line up with when Schloder in The Truth is Out There says he wishes to start up a family....wait so like you didn't have Olive then?

I think if they want to write a good Megatron, he has to be like SG where Optimus was actually so much worse. He'll always stop when someone is worse. Like in Marvel when he teams up with Ratchet to defeat Shockwave who humiliated him. Because writing him redeemed does not work when the character is just petty and a bully.

ES never tells you what he did and just assumes you know G1/IDW is why his good character arc cannot work. Because is he G1 or IDW. Or is he like IDW SG.
>>
>>151625690
wanna know the real kicker, the Earthspark series bible had this bit where Optimus and Dot were keeping a deep dark secret from Megatron and if he knew the truth he'd revert back to his old ways. i have a feeling it was meant to be the space bridge reveal of season 1 but they changed it so Optimus didn't know GHOST had one the whole time. i bet it would've turned out Optimus knew what happened to the Allspark after the battle of 07 and it was all for naught making Megatron's redemption pointless.

Her being a woman really does contextualize her finale treatment vs S1.

They clearly wanted to show a strong, motherly character with Dot. So, if she was a mother- then why was she nothing like her? She expressed no emotional reaction to the kids relative to how a mother sees children. Terrans or humans. Not saying all moms are nice, but she came off as bitter and alone. Unless she hated her own child at the time which still doesn't explain how she carried herself. Her own brother didn't even bring up her kid and given that he was trying to appeal to her sympathy, would have been at least #2.

I could not believe she died the way she did because it was so cruel. No chance to fight back, just poisoned and painfully killed. Now she's a mother for some reason

>I still think it's dumb because it just happened out of nowhere. Not a thing they built up.
i think its frustrating cause like it would've been a kind of powerful ending for Megatron, that bittersweet feeling that he ended up saving Cybertron for a future generation to have a chance on their homeworld.

I also think the other missed potential was not having Liege Maximo use the blades of time on Megatron sooner so Megatron is one of the bad guys again and when it turned out Liege Maximo had the allspark the whole time, it makes Megatron and the Decepticon revolt against Liege Maximo in a grand epic battle. and then you can do the death and rebirth of Megatron but instead he's now D-16 (pre corruption Megatron) given a second chance to actually do his life over again but i do acknowledge it would've been oh you've seen other Transformers and therefore know who D-16 is and why its a big deal but it would've been something more than what we got.
>>
>>151625901
exactly. she is way too sociopathic and cold to have been a mother, it would've probably been better if Olive and her mother didn't just have one fight before she died but like if there was a genuine conflict between them like how Croft's hatred poisoned her relations with her family.

funnily enough if it wasn't obvious the writers leaned left and were democrats, i would've assumed Croft was a chariecture of Hillary Clinton.

I cannot imagine watching this show without One/G1/IDW

Because nothing is ever explained.

Not a single episode detailing Orion, D, B-127, or any of the main G1 cast who had prominent roles. Wheeljack made a drone, but who IS he? Shockwave and Soundwave are pissed, but why? Betrayal, clearly, but why do they care so much. Why is Starscream an abuse victim? We're told Megatron hurt hum but we never see moments like him being hit for no reason or yelled at. And, since he's still scheming, we never see all the backstabbing that would make hashtag look just as much of an idiot for taking his side. Cyberverse did as much with 'starscream you idiot' and that's all the series needed.

>>
>>151626035
>when he's shown
But that's this show's problem.

They didn't.

Nothing was shown.

The audience got told he did bad things and that was that. You infer from Shockwave and Soundwave that they were bad enough to warrant them as his followers but even still, there's no visual storytelling to show anything. Prime had relics, like the Spark Extractor/Tox-en. The show has callbacks to the relics but nothing that would make you know for sure- Megatron lead a planet-wide genocide and was worse than them both

>>
>>151626060
Hasbro and the showrunners are woefully unaware of how poorly established the supposedly evergreen G1 characters are.
The Baymovies are the peak of the franchise popularity, but what characterizaion for most of the characters did people get out of it? They made Bumblebee a household name but not Sideswipe or Brawl or anyone like that.
I'm a 92 kid. I was barely old enough for Beast Wars. I'm now about to be 34 years old. People my age are parents now. My brother 15 years my senior is a G1 kid and he's got a kid in his 20's who's married.
He's not the parent bonding with his kid over G1 references anymore.
My generation barely is. And we don't know Wheeljack or Shockwave because we didn't grow up with them. Neither would the next gen of Armada kids, really. And the kids who are meant to be watchign these shows aren't getting introduced to these characters.
Hasbro desperately wants these characters to be icons but never put an effort into most of them besides making a lot of toys of them and having forgettable appearances in later shows.

Sideswipe is like the posterboy for this(although he did have a prominent showing in RiD2015 at least), he's hard carried by being there in year one.

yeah, they did such a piss poor job of actually lore dumping for this universe and just expected you knew why the characters are the way they are.

like why didn't any of the other Decepticons decide to follow Megatron in his path to redemption, let alone why he realized he had to change himself.

the show teases the idea that maybe some of the Decepticons might join like Nova Storm, Hardtop and Breakdown earlier on before the finale and did nothing with it.

another issue is where the fuck is everyone, several characters get name dropped but they're nowhere to be scene.

They were originally planned to show bots living in their own communities away from society but that was obviously dropped.

TC and Breakdown both share status as defector and almost-defector but even in IDW some cons just stopped caring. Like Deathsaurus' entire ship. For how much ot wanted to shove into the series they took the hardest sell. Mostly because they had five terrans and a bad quint plot and two humans to focus on. oh come on now, most of the toys ended up on heavy red tag clearance. it did flop no matter how you slice it. Just cause you like the show doesn't mean it was a failure. the 86 movie was a flop, Galaxy Force was a flop in Japan, Prime was a flop, One flopped, i mean they're all better than Earthspark but the facts are facts.

we never got to see Cosmos at retail and its a miracle if you ever saw the Soundwave.

maybe they'll be plentiful next year at Ross, Ollies and those kind of liquidator retail stores but right now, nothing.

in Canada it only took about a month after Cyberworld to complete replace Earthspark product at walmart.

the fact Cyberworld was already in development and released the first quarter of the show before Earthspark wrapped up tells you they wanted to move on quickly but we're still obligated to fill out an order for Paramount+, they probably regret greenlighting season 2 before season 1 was even out. it was damage control ever since. I think after Earthspark shat the bed in its finale, its really making people take more notice and appreciate how much better Cyberworld is despite being the cheaper made production.

Episode 1 is the hardest to get through.

Looks like it's for toddlers. Written for 8 year olds.

Until you keep watching and it's actually the continuation of Prime. Blur and Salvage are so cool. Their story lines up with Earth being an energon storage planet and Quickshadow is one of the better female bots. It's G1 in spirit with a likable cast human and robot with plots that don't insult the viewer like Rid15's. Being for kids is no reason for the show to have absolute solid world building and more cohesive than all of RiD.
>>

>Soundwave.
I thought he was released. A shame because I like his alt mode more than Prime's jet.

I'm hoping Cyberworld can get high quality toys in better sizes. Dollar store quick change toys aren't the worst, but the show makes it easy with the plastic metal and how often they're transforming.

I don't understand why they didn't do 11 minute episodes.

Even on a budget, it's the most common short series format even for tiktok brain kids. Plus ad revenue bonus.
>>
>>151632459
My guess is that Hasbro didn't want another financial risk so they gave the show short episodes to make it faster to make and if the show ended up flopping it wouldn't have cost much. Glad the writers and animators are creative enough that they make good use of what they're allowed to work with, I hope since the show and toys are doing well we can get longer episodes next season.

The show and the toys would need a million dollar boost to ever make that happen and because it's youtube, that's just ad revenue. The viewership is worse than most web series by literal whos.

I don't mind the show being 5 mins each. But weekly for 1 episode sucks.

I think there are only dollar store level toys out now. And with no backing from Hasbro in any capacity, the audience reach barely goes past twitter as it's where Ali Lightfoot (creator) posts.

I have one of the dollar brand toys and they are hardly more than $3 in worth. I think any price over $10 is the retailer. The ES toys are horrendously cheap too and I'm surprised Walmart is selling them full priced at $30 with tax when you can find them for $12 or less elsewhere.

A shame. Cyberworld designs are perfect as far as toys to CG, but I don't think we're ever going to see an official, high quality product. Unless a third party picks them up because I really love Elita's boat and Bee's Aligned re-design.

Look
The major transformers have basic iconic well known personalities and looks that sell and work with the young boy audience and the older audience remembers.

Straying too far from those adds nothing. At all. If you're going to do that, then get another character or go to another series.

The only people begging for a new version of those characters are degenerates who'll buy anything and just want to change things up so when they buy it they'll be slightly more entertained.

The audience they need are children and young teens. And if you look at media that's succeeding with them the roles that they had are still liked.

Don't fuck with the formula. If you get too far from it then it becomes random bullshit and loses it's identitity. An identity that it needs to maintain in the minds of the adults who will be buying this for their children.

Who is good guy megatron for?
Who is soldier girl elita 1 for?
Who is beta male optimous with no face plate for?

What does that add? What group of young boys and adults are going to jive with that?
>>
>>151608343
It was ok. Personally, i just appreciated a Transformers show trying something different, rather than just yet another Optimus vs Megatron show. The family dynamic was interesting, as is the whole "Humans adopting and raising Cybertronians" thing.

A few episodes majorly fucking pissed me off. That fucking one where the kid goes back to his hometown and meets his childhood friend who hates Cybertronians because of the war. They try to have the whole:

>"Standing up to your enemies is hard, but standing up to your friends when you know they are wrong is harder. Don't accept racism from your friends, just because they are your friends."

Which i appreciate, but they never address WHY that kid felt the way he did. They never address his point of view. Instead, the message of the episode comes across as:

>"Remember, kids. If a friend says something that you personally disagree with, then cut them out of your life. NEVER attempt basic conflict-resolution. NEVER attempt to understand why they may have such feelings. Simply assume they were baselessly racist and rest assured that you are morally superior."

Cool Quintesson designs though, as was the whole "Head on a tentacle" thing that Mandroid's Quintesson form had, very Mighty Max.

So, yeah, even if i liked it, i'd hesitate to call it good... My only real surprise is that it lasted as long as it did.
>>
>>151635031
I'd say it peaked with Revenge. Moon was alright, but not as good. Extinction was 3 different scripts they couldn't decide which they liked more, so just superglued them together and it fucking sucked. Last Knight was actually alright.
>>151635059
Brand Recognition. Normies expect Bee to be like that. Hell, i think Earthspark is the first non-Machinima show since Bayformers to have Bee actually just talk straight out the gate. Prime had him speak in R2-D2 and Cyberverse simply straight up copied the "Speaks using radio clips" thing.

considering Warzone, the episode that proceeds Home basically had Megatron say that the war killed so many people and that the Terrans and Maltos need to be better than they were only to immediately cry immediately when they meet someone who brings up valid reasons for racism against Transformers was insanely tone deaf. the show is it at odds with what it presents. they created a crapsack world on the same level as the Bayverse but refuse to really acknowledge it as such.
>>
>>151635155
the thing i think Transformers has forgotten is, it doesn't really need to keep pidgeonholding its characters in the same designs or character roles. like the Unicron Trilogy was a true reinvention of the brand, sure some names to designs were absolute nameslaps with little sense like Armada Smokescreen but its that kind of inovation we're missing right now. we've been doing a lot of the same storybeats for so long, hell if you actually think about it, so are the same character roster choices.

good example of what i mean is, all the actual Autobots in Earthspark, there is NOT a single character on the Autobots side of things that hadn't appeared in recent media within the past 5 years (Optimus, Bumblebee, Elita, Grimlock, Arcee, Wheeljack, Mirage, Hot Rod, Cosmos, Prowl) have all either also appeared in Cyberverse, WFC Trilogy, ROTB, One and Cyberworld. Meanwhile Earthspark's Decepticon roster had wild card picks like Hardtop and Octopunch. There's no one in the autobot roster like them nobody said hey maybe we should have Cloudburst or Midnight Express show up or some shit. Autobot rosters are usually 84 - 86. its kind of a miracle Cyberverse was able to toss in guys nobody would think of like Repugnus, Whirl, and especially Rack N' Ruin. the moment i saw Rack N' Ruin in the show was the moment i realized Cyberverse was made by actual fans cause nobody would've considered them otherwise since they were up to that point comic book only characters.

i appreciate that Cyberworld was able to mix things up with their designs so far. Offroad Optimus is a genuinely fresh Optimus design, just wished they used him from the get go. Bull Megatron also very fresh too but if they truly wanna go all the way, bring back Optimus Prime combining and having super modes and shit.

yes i'm a 2000s kid, you can tell. we moved away from it, maybe its just time to go back to it and at least give it another go.

Random transformers showing up depending on what new toys they have in or were thinking about selling was LITTERALLY the modus operandi of G1.
That's what I meant by putting those character archetypes and story ideas onto new characters.

You only need at LEAST 3- 5 tentpole iconic rep characters on each side. The rest can be wild cards.
AND SHOULD be wild cards. And set up a plot point where new characters will just show up out of nowhere. Just have "New toy budget" set up so they can bring in a new character that Hasbro is wanting to sell.
Even have polls and games on their official website and apps to pick what new characters are showing up.

It allows a massive amount of creativity when it comes to character writing and relationship dynamics.

she is one of the characters i really want if they make a new Transformers show. keep her as the flirty slutty and bratty ojou sama type but one change i wanna make to her is have her be a weapon specialist, a gunrunner, she is all about guns and shit. tinkering with new weapon ideas. also Megatron X Thunderblast has been one of my OTPs for so long so i actually wanna do something with that especially with how my Megatron tries to be this composed evil gentlemen and then Thunderblast's flirty gets him a bit tsundere around her and why she gets special treatment from him.

one of the biggest things i wanna do with my Megatron is a bit of a response to how Earthspark failed with its Megatron and the Decepticons, give reasons why he'd have loyal followers at all, make him a cult of personality. It was a bit inspired as well by Satsuki Kiryuin and her Elite 4. they would die for her, and i want that with my Megatron which is what would make Starscream and Shockwave the major outliers.

>>151635429
i think another thing is the cartoons don't take advantage of the character models they do have.

like i realized this when Cyberverse had its final specials and the Mercenaries sans Trypticon were all model reuses of the pre-existing characters which was actually really smart

and then i look at Earthspark and i'm amazed nobody on the team realized oh we could just reuse their character models and build up the world more. like if you got the seekers, actually do more of it, Cyberverse had so many of them (granted they were kind of wasted but still) and yes i will still moan that Thundercracker not being in Earthspark is insanely jarring. but you can also look at other designs and get creative, like Soundwave could've obviously had Soundblaster or they could've done a Cybertron styled Sideways (or you could have him be his Armada colours just to make it more different from Soundblaster and have both) or with Hardtop he could've been Beachcomber and or Sureshot too. Bumblebee has his older Beetle looking design and his Ford GT40 design, you could have Bug Bite and Cliffjumper be from the body. Breakdown could've also doubled for a Wildrider (they got his trademark back, i genuinely expected to see him in the show). Cosmos = Pathfinder. I can go on and on. Prowl shows up yet no Bluestreak and Smokscreen come on man. I know they'd utilize them all poorly but it would've at least been smart cost effective decision making.

the fact not a single person realized how horrible the optics were in the writers room. it was definitely written during the summer of love no doubt.

Mandroid really was wasted, like i get it, he became the very thing he sought to destroy becoming a monster in the process but the fact he and Alex were friends just doesn't go anywhere, like they acknowledge it twice but they don't do anything with it. it would've been great to have an episode where Alex explains to the Maltos and Terrans what Dr. Meridian was like before the tragic day that changed everything, but it probably would've been too expensive and too depressing to do. the whole idea just screams Dark Glass, a great idea that should've happened but too ambitious except the writers just needed a hate sink instead.

it feels like anti-Transformers racism stories just never work, Kicker was supposed to be that type of character as well except it never felt like he grew out of it or really confronted his childhood trauma just that they forgot about it and just made him an edgy dick.

To me it always felt like Earthspark writers were being pussies for not wanting to show just how bad Megatron and the war actually was, why some humans don't want Cybertronians around, and not exploring Mandroid as a person so we learn how he ended up that way. It was like they were terrified of people not completely siding with the Maltos or Megatron if they get shown in an unflattering light.
Kicker was annoying but at least the anime actually bothered to show why he's like that and the Autobots were understanding and tolerant of him because of it.

Wasn't there a Smokescreen or a Mirage that were Decepticons in G2?
Also, Bayformers Frenzy and Scorponoks were attached to Barricade and Blackout.

>>151635869
i also think about how bad the collateral damage is in the show, and i remember people used to bitch when Prime was airing why the fuck are they always in abandoned areas, forests, deserts, tundras all the time and well in hindsight it was vindicated cause you never really had to worry about collateral damage for the most part (outside of Jasper, Nevada being permanently relocated)

meanwhile Witwicky, Pennsylvania has its main street destroyed almost every fucking week, Home 2 parter wrecks Phily and then Grimlock goes on a rampage in A Stygi Situation. This show does absolutely nothing to help try to calm the genuine concerns the human populace has with the Transformers around.
>>

yeah G2 Smokescreen is the partner of Dreadwing, in the Japanese version he is actually G1 Smokescreen who went through a face heel turn arc of his own.

and funnily enough Barricade and Blackout were both attempts at trying to get Soundwave in the first Bay film, they genuinely overthought the idea of how to do him without being a cassette player. the fact they're both deployers are remnants of what would've been Soundwave.

bro Cybertron is one of the biggest reasons i became a fan in the long haul, the day I bought my Cybertron Hot Shot on the first day of summer vacation in 2005 and seeing the planet map of the entire first 2 waves made me want to get them all and then the anime began broadcasting a few weeks later in Canada and the rest was history.

Bayverse unironically had better writing for humans with a more realistic reaction to a post-alien invasion. People already barely tolerate each other when stuff gets wrecked in wars, what makes the Earthspark writers think humans wouldn't be justified in being pissed off at actual aliens using our planet as a battlefield for their personal drama.
Even IDW, for all it's bad writing addressed this to some degree because the Decepticons killed billions of people and humans aren't wrong for not trusting them...this does get glossed over as IDW's writing got worse but at least it was brought up. The kid in Earthspark wasn't even being mean and he wasn't wrong for saying the Transformers invaded earth, he was genuinely being really tolerant and nice to them with Robby being a little bitch about it.
>>
>>151621818
>Who wants to give Skybound the time of day when beforehand they've gotten nothing but literal slop for years.
Skybound Transformers has had insanely great numbers for the current comic book landscape, no issue of IDW ever sold copies even close to what Skybound is doing now.
>>
>>151636079
Marvel Transformers also had the humans be wary of Cybertronians too.

>>151635869
I don't think they're afraid so much as, the series was written by fans of IDW.

Imagine your fanfiction of a different series was being developed into something new, you want people to like your favorite character obviously. And that favorite was 'redeemed' Megatron. The Malto kids on the other hand, might have been over protected.

They get what they want, always. They never have to work hard. They can apparently not focus on school and never get bad enough grades to warrant parental attention. They get power ups because reasons that simply do not branch beyond being the main characters.

I remember when Raf being grounded for an A- was the entire reason the Prime human cast had to solve an entire plot from his bedroom. That was fun. But it was also the last time a human kid had to apparently acknowledge school because Cody Burnes and Russel never seem to go. Russel had a human friend that went absolutely nowhere and is all but disconnected from other people besides his own dad. I guess hasbro figured writing American children accurately was a bad thing or something
>>
>>151636094
I love the human plots because they're so goofy. Like Blaster taking those kids to space and it turns into a kidnapping which turns into a really big issue
>>
>>151636094
Yeah, I forgot about that. And that's actual good writing since I hate it when stories refuse to address very obvious problems in worldbuilding.

>>151636113
This is why I never really liked the Malto kids or the Terrans, they were treated as both "super special" and extremely spoiled by the writers. Megatron was also treated the same way, no amount of "he's changed and totally feels bad about the war" will make me stop asking why the fuck he's not in prison but all the other cons are, and no, I won't accept "but he's helping!", Optimus and the Autobots should be enough to handle rounding up the cons.
Why does Megatron get excused when he's the entire reason the war started and why earth got wrecked in the first place?

if it's not bayverse why does bumblebee retain the same head design as his first appearance in 2007
>>
Bumblebee should be a motorcycle to be human sized.
>>
>>151636199
Optimus is his enabler. In fact Optimus in general is written like his IDW self. Corrupt for no other reason but the writers themselves wanting him to be.

He lets the kids fight with him, despite it going against every version of himself. Optimus in general hated the idea of humans being hurt sans Bay where they hurt him so bad he stopped caring. He lets Megatron walk free despite- again, all versions of him being completely against Megatron being free in any capacity. He's hardly a protector and more of a weird PR manager so Megatron gets to be the poster boy for the good guys. All the jobs too humiliating for Megatron, go to him. (Trailer washing episode, the dad jokes, the recruitment and other stupid shit.)
>>
>>151636300
A motorcycle who is a headmaster would be better in my opinion

The motorcycle means leaning into the more innocent fight avoidant bumblebee and can be a great side kick to a human character.

HOWEVER it removes his ability to be somewhat useful in a fight.
Who is going to replace him as that teen young adult male character?

>>151636347
I knew the show was going to be morally subversive and retarded as fuck as soon as I saw megatron with an autobot symbol on his chest.

The FUCK were they thinking?

The best you can do with good guy megatron is lawful evil but has no problems with breaking those laws to win.
And origin where he had no choice but ultimately fell to his own evil and vice.

That's it. Anything else is retarded bullshit fanfic written by people who should either never touch the transformers IP or be HEAVYLY tardwrangled.

Yeah, that also opens up more possibilities for more toys.
Like it can turn into a bike and a battle station or a gun or an animal companion and they can transform into a larger robot.

The minicon/human in a power suit play pattern is really under utilized.

Thanks for bringing back up terrible memories of IDW Optimus that I've buried for years now. Optimus is such hypocritical cunt in IDW with how he was willing to let Megatron walk but if anyone else did anything remotely bad he would pummel or murder them himself, it was so shit that even characters in universe called him out on it sometimes with how biased he was towards anyone that wasn't Megatron.
IDW could fuck off with that absolute steaming pile of shit ending with Optimus hugging that Unicron scientist guy that destroyed Cyberton, it's colonies, and caused the death of a lot of people after he's killed cons for doing less. Earthspark Optimus is just diet IDW Optimus but at least IDW Optimus had a good design.

anon you keep focusing on characterization when were just saying we want Optimus with jetpacks and maybe Megatron is green and turns into a space tank or something.
Playing with characterization is a factor too, but it's more like making Megatron more boastful or having a battle lust than making a G1 looking Megatron design good.

You are missing the bigger problem, put masculine Thundercracker or Starscream beside them and they will always pick one of them. That's what makes this all stupid, people are acting like Furries and want to load sexuality into stupid shit forgetting this was always meant to be a toy line for boys and we have 40 years showing they want the robots that are the same gender as them and little else. For me it's what's so tiring is seeing men in their 30s and 40s crying they want more female toys when younger people and kids are not interested in that at all.

you get it.

Girl money is not Hasbro's main market. Yes fujos buy toys, but fujos are buying the toys of the men. Little girls are a minority of a minority as transformers fans. Just because a fat white woman calls Simun Furman misogynist does not mean that hasbro should course correct to pander to fembot image. They don't matter.

Elita matters, Chromia can matter, but it's only people over 20 who seem to be upset that they are not the picture perfect female empowerment characters and hasbro shouldn't listen to them, ever. Nor should they hire them for their shows. Boys like boy toys. Fujos like m/m toys. Just make boy toys. Female characters should always be secondary and if they make it popular, then they can keep being relevant

factually untrue. During playtests of things like the Masters of the Universe line, kids would attempt to steal the Teela prototype.
Boys are guarded about liking girl toys but are drawn to them regardless. Usually they try to hide that, but often the way they do is by adding it to a list of stuff they want which just means they sell more anyway (like asking for a green ranger and a pink ranger so he isn't just asking for pink alone)

The people that want these perfect female empowerment characters don't really give a shit about any one work.
They simply want their prototypical fantasy of female strength as described by the lesbian and penis envy ran feminist cult.

They don't care. The same women DESPERATE to be seen as real strong women or blather on about bullshit like that online and in public will then go home and read or watch the most girl goofy chick media on earth and fingerblast themselves into a coma while reading breeding farm, the ravaging of virgina's garden, and other stuff to get their fill of dangerous emotional men and being vulnerable.

Let's be honest.
We all should just ignore those disengenuous cunts and wierdo beta "men" and write to the normals again.

Anyway.
You are 100% correct. This is a boys show and desperately trying to appeal to a female market that doesn't exist is retarded. The only women you should appeal to are tomboys, mothers, women and girls who know men and boys that are into it.
The strong girl boss? The girls and women who are into it don't like them from what I've seen and the females(girls and women) who aren't into it but will pick up on it for males don't care.

It's been over a half century since we've turned toy sales into a science.
Boys do not buy girl versions of characters

Girls buy boy versions of characters so they can have relationship dramas. Usually stealing her brothers gijoe or other male characters and making romance or house playing drama.

There you go.
And yeah, the horny little boys were steeling titties to play with. I was a little boy. I was guilty of something similar.

But cartoons aimed at boys do not have pretty girls or anything even slightly feminine anymore. It's all "girl bosses' and bulldykes. Not normal women, strong women, and adorable tomboys. Just the fantasy of strong women that lunatics want as a gotcha to men, and hardcore lesbians.

1) you have one example based on off hand stories that we just have to trust
2) we have decades of clearance figures being the female figures for the last 4 decades over multiple brands.
3) Finally, you are making the assumption it would be a first or even high choice, there was a reason Kenner made 20 Batman's every year and hardly anything else, and tat was kids wanted Batman first and foremost with Batgirl being far behind Joker, Freeze, etc. This will always be the way thing are, a girl character toy isn't going to be the first, second or even third pick for the majority of boys to play with or watch otherwise Cybersix, The Legend of Calamity Jane and other attempts at girl action shows aimed at boys would have made easy cash. They didn't. They bombed hard. Because short of sex deviants most young boys/men don't want female heroes and even most girls don't want to watch action hero girls.

Nothing is wrong just admitting you have a fetish for female robots and the like. Everything is wrong trying to say boys at large have ever wanted that or could be fooled into wanting it. They don't, they never have and likely never will.

TMNT doesn't have to worry about as much engineering in its toys. Transformers are genuinely among the most complex shit with having to approach it as robot, alt mode and its transformation, whereas Playmates can just shit out 4 turtle molds that are basically the same and sell you them as the 4 brothers. They keep trying to reinvent the wheel and take risks while keeping the core idea.
Look at 2012 TMNT to Tales to the new movie. Likewise look at Transformers between Beast Wars to Prime. Experimentation was very high but they kept the core beats the same so novelty was always there and you never felt you were watching a husk of a show that was just parading around past successes as it's core. That's my greatest issue with Earthspark was how it tried to just both pretend it was G1 and at the same time something completely new.

i think what bothered me with Earthspark is how it was supposed to be the big grand return to a unionized Transformers production after Cyberverse and WFC Trilogy were all non union projects, Cyberverse is honestly damn great IMO so coming into Earthspark i had bigger expectations and they dropped the ball period with dated political moralization and just poorly thought out world building and character development that goes nowhere, and now another non union product like Cyberworld is mogging EarthSpark.

Better to wait for the show to fail on its own rather than cut it or engage. If you hate ES, then clearly you're a bigot. But with the show failing in all aspects, it can be a clear number reference to not hire anyone who worked on it again

I too love Beast Wars. Even more so than standard G1 stuff and its derivatives and offshoots.

It's a shame that Hasbro doesn't do more PURE Beast Wars stuff. Only that it must always include G1 stuff like that idiotic prologue comic to the original Beast Wars people don't want to recognize. The one where Predacon Inferno and Autobot Inferno are the same character but altered due to the pod crash (and I call it bullshit).

I hope that Trigger will do so damn good once they roll out their Transformers show that they will be allowed to do a new Beast Wars one.

i'd love to see a new BW show that just has an all new cast or repurposes more toy only characters. like i think it'd be cool of the new Convoy/Prime was like a deer going for a majestic Bambi vibe sorta like how Lio Convoy was based off Kimba the White Lion. you could have a fox that's essentially Cheetor and Rattrap combined, a skittish kid appeal character type think sorta like Fink from The Wild Robot but younger. there's a few other species we've never really had like a hippopotamus cause those are some dangerous fuckers, could be like the new Rhinox/Bulkhead or something, seems like a gentle giant is actually dangerous.
>>
>>151639036
was this not the Japanese continuation?

That being said, I have mixed feelings about BW continuing because you have the choice of being goofy again like Wild King or keeping Machine's tone and spiritual story-line.

I didn't like Wild King, but I know it's for people who treat TF like Go Go. There is no story, only antics and fun. Which is not bad, just not something I want to watch. But Wild King is doing extremely well for Japan.
>>
>>151639121
Wild King's show i find less engaging and harder to watch cause Takara decided to region lock but toy wise its a step in the right direction

i feel like if you took the plot and cast of Cyberworld but tossed in the Wild King gimmick and had toys of the same quality, then you'd have a genuine recipe of success.

this is why we need co-development, i think a truly great series could've come from both concepts merged together to become something everyone could enjoy and appreciate.

I do. From the designers notes on Starbase Rugby and Colony Omicron (Depth Charge's turf), these place were settled by both bots and humans...until Rampage ate everyone.
>I can see him being overly dramatic. The Preds co-rule the planet, afterall.
Doubt it considering that most Predacons were not pleased with the fact that the Maximals were the ones in charge and they saw the Tripedacus Council to be kowtowing to the Maximal Elders (even though the TC was doing everything to mastermind a way to create an opening to hit the Maximals at the right moment).
So they weren't co-ruling Cybertron and from Dinobot's tone in that one episode where team Primal thought they obliterated the Preds, most Maximals didn't seem to be so open minded about a Pred joining them unlike Primal.
>>151639036

ok here's a question, if you were to actually take any characters or ideas from this show you actually wanna see revisted what exactly do you think could be redone better

Aftermath is genuinely a fun character, asshole delinquent kid, i just wish they did more with him being like a son to Breakdown (fucked up they never see each other again) and Jawbreaker can just easily be one of the Dinobots. Of the humans I'd probably like to see Dot, Alex and Mandroid tried again. Dot is a soldier, so easy one. keep Alex as the historian and Mandroid really needs a do over, like actually flesh him out, the idea of a human who suffered in the crossfires going mad is a great idea but they don't do anything with it beyond he's evil, racist and crazy.

redesign/reinterpretations: Nova Storm's black and yellow colour scheme is a must. personally for me i'd probably bring back female Skywarp and Frenzy (i explained my reasoning for why in the thread earlier), Mirage essentially being Multiple Man is another. Breakdown should have that alt mode again, goddamn thats such a cool design.

voice castings: a lot of the VAs definitely deserve another go in the franchise, some already were in the beforehand but if i had to pick actual reprisals i do want them to do again. Troy Baker as Shockwave and Mirage he did a great job as them both. Troy would rock as a more Marvel styled Shockwave and his Mirage was fun, they actually cooked with him despite shitting the bed everywhere else in the finale. Nolan North as Swindle is another, probably my favourite Swindle voice after the late Fred Willard. Cissy Jones as Elita is another really perfect casting choice i wouldn't mind hearing again. I hope Vanessa Marshall and Aaron Laplante get a proper role in the future, they were "additional voices only" unfortunately. LaPlante in particular i think would make a truly terrifying Unicron if he did his Omen voice from Samurai Jack.

I like the idea of Mandroid hacking his body up, his hatred of robots so strong he starts losing his humanity and becoming what he loathes.
>>
>>151640201
that was genuinely great, he became the very thing he swore to destroy.

I also loved how he died thinking he won in killing all the Transformers on Earth, i can't believe they undid it and he's just alive again and just rotting in a prison cell, that's lame.

Indeed, Optimus Prime, Soundwave and even wheeljack showing their mouths is what's kinda ruined their unique designs for me personally. I'd almost be ok with the mouths(would still prefer not to see it) if they at least had unique faces. How much of ya'll are open for a live action Transformers movie produced by Seth Rogen based on his recent comic book related work that serves as a continuation to Michael Bay's movies that retcons The Last Knight with the music score composed by Tom Holkenborg?

It's honestly more inspired than having a Trigger animated series based on the IP to be frank. Just do something nuts and with the music making you wanna Live & Learn.

I genuinely cannot understand how people think a Trigger animated series is even possible. Trigger uses CGI robots in shows that are mostly "teens walking around and talking", there is no way they would be up for animating a show that is mostly detailed robotical action unless they made super stylized cartoony robots akin to TFA.

myself, i don't like megatron. if i had to choose, i'd rather optimus utilize his talents on a person he can steer or control, to put his large hand on the back of their neck and discipline/praise them. megatron gets portrayed as a dom top way too often for that.

Blokees is the most exciting thing that's happened with Transformers, why don't they make a show about action masters?

Action Masters as a concept didn't click for a reason back then, it lost the essence of what made Transformers unique the transforming part. this isn't shade on Blokees but i don't think you can support a whole show on second party product.
>>
>>151608343
This was the first transformers show after Cyberverse to show the end of the war and the reunification of the two side with the added cool shit of having Megatron be a good guy total Vegeta style. This show will always be super cool for that alone.
>>
>>151651047
what reunification of both sides? only Megatron and i guess Breakdown switched but thats it and even Megatron's whole character was undone in the final moments.
>>
>>151646082
i agree, i find it odd how little they actually do it, the only times we've had New Yorker Wheeljack since were Devastation which is literally Sunbow (Chris Swindle is doing a spot on voice match to Chris Latta) and WFC Trilogy (Bill Rogers is a New Yorker and shockingly sounds good for it despite WFC Trilogy being shit)

>>
>>151651047
>end of the war
Sure, if you count not even showing anything interesting aside from "well i guess the Autobots won but our planet and species are still doomed"

>reunification of the two sides
Megatron dropping the Decepticons after a strong black woman somehow convinced him that genocide was bad while every other con doesn't give a shit and only Breakdown switched last minute, isn't "reunification". That's not even a truce.

>cool shit of having Megatron be a good guy total Vegeta style
Don't compare my man Vegeta to Megatraitor. Vegeta had a whole character arc that was explored and built up, Megatron had none of that and him being a good guy is fucking lame horseshit. Even Hasbro realized how ass it was to the point where he just gets his memory erased and now he's evil again.

>>
>>151652630
i think one of Earthspark's biggest problems is that its basically a sequel series to a show that didn't exist like a BM, Energon or RID2015 but honestly worse because we never really got to know the characters, they just expect you to know them from the get go. I think ES Megatron being a good guy might've actually gone down better if we actually saw the arc that showed him becoming better and earning it instead of, he's been good for the past 15 years but his arc and development happened offscreen and unshown. i still feel like i don't even know what was the deal with everyone, like why every Decepticon took is personally that Megatron became an Autobot here even the guys that should be loyal to him.
>>
>>151652851
Animated did this by having propoganda in the first 10 seconds that contextualize the war and where they're at.

It would have been so much better for the series if it did just that. Make Alex a speaker at a school about the war (and possibly announce it being his last day on the job), cut to the kids moving out of their home, and then start the series the way it did. Or just cut after his lesson. Because it's a mix of continuities and only the writers seem to know which one is canon
>>
>>151652851
You're spot on that ES feels like it's supposed to be a sequel to something else. The show just feels empty, like the writers made it without considering that maybe you shouldn't be jumping several years into a future where we don't get to see any of the events that led to it or Megatron's character development being completely off-screen.
Like how did things even get to this point? Why did Megatron switch sides after millions of years and just dump his entire cause and army? Why are the Autobots fine with having their ancient enemy just roam free?
The only thing the story gave me was unanswered questions and now the show dead in a ditch.
>>
>>151652851
What's amazing is it be the simplest flash back stories to write that people would eat up

>get Megs badly injured and compromised like he was in the Japanese series or IDW
>have someone else run the Decepticons in this window (Galvatron, Scorponok, etc)
>he has to rely on humans to save him
>he gets to see the war from the other side and begins to understand how wrong headed his ideas were
>perhapes he even witness the human equivalent of him do awful shit
>coverts to the Autobots

Easy two parter that everyone would watch and engage in.

i liked early MTMTE, i like IDW Megatron but his redemption was such a tough pill to swallow given how genocidal he was. its not perfect but up until the end of Dying of the Light, it was a solid run. its just afterwards in the Lost Light rebranding, it just lost what made it good, just became JRo pandering to his new tumblr groupies that would flock all over him at cons.

IDW is a mixed bag for me, high highs but insanely low lows, i just want the good shit kept and throw the rest of it out.

It's sad that the importance of RiD 2001 and Armada are very looked over thanks to being between BW and the bay movies which were two of the biggest changes in the franchise
I love BW, it's my series, but due to coming out of a 9 year ole between the end of the G1 cartoon and G2's failure overall, it had a long climb out the hole. It's success shouldn’t be discounted, but something like Beast Machines underperforming almost had the line cancelled
And then RID ended up so successful that it guaranteed the line would stick around for another year and did so well they had to run it longer.
Armada did so well it lead to a whole second line in Universe which expanded the footprint on store shelves and is why a G1 toy revival even happened.
The movies would not have happened if the line died after BM.

I read MTMTE and the Lost Light, MTMTE was fine but Lost Light fucking awful. Characters were flanderized or just turned to "le quippy funny losers", Rodimus was even more annoying somehow, Megatron as an Autobot was and always will suck donkey balls, mutiny arc was a rushed disappointment, and Rung being god was astronomical retardation.
Roberts got too high on his own hype and it was a shitshow.
>>
>>151654047
Tarn alone was his best idea and design. Absolutely the best character and arc that defines the worst of the cause.

The downside, JRO is obsessed with preening for his fangirls. I'm glad Tarn dies. Because he'd unfortunately be reformed if he lived or worse, gets the Nickel treatment. Worse art, a shipping bait interest, and not that bad, actually. Even though on Tarn's ship, she was picking organs from mulched bots with 0 remorse.

Ah yeah I heard about that. I guess they tried to figure out a reason for why female cybertronians exist (it's not like they give birth or anything), but that sounds terrible, I would rather no explanation at all. Or maybe Primus just thought women are cool, idk
>>
>>151654012
Tailgate should've died instead of Skids. Wtf was Roberts thinking with Nautica erasing her memories, literally a pointless storyline that went nowhere.
Getaway was completely wasted just because Roberts got asshurt some readers agreed about not forgiving Megatron. Not to mention those two useless troon transformers that nobody liked and only existed to bloat the cast.

This. Tailgate had the perfect death opportunity but Roberts pussied out because the Cygate shippers were crying about it.

Lost Light really off. They grafted a quirky spaceship show onto a franchise that had nothing to do with that shit. It's like they really didn't want to write Transformers
>>
>>151654515
Roberts definitely wanted to write Red Dwarf and Doctor Who with his Transformers comic, which i don't hate in theory but it did get obnoxious how much the actual plot didn't really matter.

i felt like Milhouse with the fireworks factory when it came to Cyberutopia. so little progress happens towards it at a reasonable pace, then you get a big discovery and then ignored again for a while.

That can't be right Universe launched only 6 months after Armada released. Production times wouldn't add up, more so back then, even with just redecos it would take at least 10 months to go from concept to store shelf. Do you mean RiD2001 success? The way that toy line was handled it was a protoform of Universe.

Armada was successful enough from the jump that they had to bring in the Transmetal redecoes as line filler.
You're right that universe was leading up from the RiD redeco line that lasted after the main line ended too. I guess the middle route would be to say armada's orders were strong out the gate due to RiD succeeding which lead to Universe being approved and rolled out to meet demand.

It's all strange when you think about it
After Beast Wars success the brand was getting more and more away from traditional robots in disguise alt modes of plans and cars and was getting more future tech- until Beast Machines bombed so hard they canned Transtech and swap in RiD 2001 whuch sold very well and Armada through Cybertron's success ensured the live action movie getting made and that year gap between the last TV series and movie is the only reason Hasbro dabbled with modern G1 style toys (Classics) and they sold better than all previous series from the 2000s, making them lean more into G1 era products even with the Movie toys around.

Basically the major reason we have been trapped in a near 25 years G1 being redone over and over again was a mix of Beast Machines failing and production of the live action movie not lining up right with the last toy series ending.

Something happened with Angolmois on earth at some point as said with >>151640759
But seemingly humanity did actually manage to eventually crack a way to purify or otherwise utilize the stuff safely as a last "Fuck you" to Unicron further into the future.

They do still seem to know eachother an interact though, it's just that since it's no longer a "Fate of two worlds" situation and you had shit like the Cybertronians cracking how to make replica matrixes we tend to focus more on various isolated military commanders by the Beast era in Japan who don't have a lot of reason to be interacting with humans at the moment.

There was a theory floating around, given that if you pay attention the daughter is in a completely different design style, that she at least was a leftover model scrapped from an early production change that they just never fucking updated and just upscaled it. The son at least looks mostly human just with some obvious "Was the goal to be racist" visual traits, and most of the other humans mostly look fine, but the girl is just an inexplicably out of scale bug eyed bobblehead mutant unlike every other human character.

Since the Vok are in BW, that would tie the show to the G2 era comic where billions of humans died and Duke made it clear to Optimus when he was leaving earth that all Transfomers would be seen as a threat to the planet from now on. So it's likely even after 300 years their relationship would still be questionable/awful. Then again, the BW show also had ties to the 86 movie and the UK comics so who the fuck knows what the actual canon is.

Lost Light is trash. MTMTE is trash after issue 40 or so.
>>
>>151657267
Lost Light was certainly the breaking point for me. The Dying Light arc was bad but I at least could stomach why it was happening. The OC shit and over the top magic shit in the first story of Lost Light killed me. More so when the only decent story beat of a person grief over a dead friend was undone so quickly it made the whole story pointless. I just pack it up, if he was fucking up such a simple story for OC garbage no one ask for there was no way a good story was coning out of that series. I -might- have check back in if a new writer happen but I'm not sure that was was salvageable.

Does anyone know how well Prime did in terms of sales?
Because that was going concurrently with Generations, but then the follow ups started dialing things down. The lines got cheaper and more kiddyfied like Robots in Disguise (2015) and Cyberverse
>>
>>151639371
Earth was declared off-limits because a lot of important TF history takes place there and any bumfuck spaceship can be made time-travel-capable by slapping a transwarp cell into it.
It's, like, the main plot of Beast Wars. BW Megatron is the exact example of why Earth is a no-fly zone.

>so who the fuck knows what the actual canon is.
We actually know EXACTLY what universe Beast Wars takes place in: its own.
Beast Wars is not a sequel to any particular G1 story. It's a separate continuity that reuses ideas from multiple previous sources, as well as adding in its own unique details. NA Beast Wars (+NA BM) takes place in universe Primax 496.22 Alpha.
>>
>>151658499
relatively poorly, which is why they changed things to keep making the Line Go Up.
TFP (or maybe rather TF sales as a whole, headlined by Prime s the mainline at the time) did better than the pre-movie lines of the 2000's, but Hasbro and thus the investors expected them to make more profit which was not going to happen between the network being a smaller, satellite based one and the movies waning in popularity after 2011.
It's part of the reason why I'd argue the movies were a double edged thing because it meant Hasbro expected to make that much profit and not understand trends and fads.
