I remembered picking up the first TPB on a whim back when it released and being really disappointed with it. Even as a teenager it was clear I wasn't the target audience. Felt too much like a Tumblr YA fanfiction and not enough like the setting it was based around. I think I might have been expecting something closer to Locke and Key given that I would have been reading that around that time too.
