>we need more strong and independent female characters in comic books or the boys reading them will turn gay!
Did the people behind Comics Code have a point here?

Ironic since millennial writers keep making those “strong female characters” gay.
>>
>>151624393
They were just supposed to be female. The rest was an accident.

Very ironic that Batwoman and a Robin ended up gay.
What’s next? Lois Lane and Supergirl?

Male readers don’t want to read books about straight women. It’s degrading.

Yes they did.
All comic and cartoon casts need at least one female. And if it is only one female, that female better look sexy and attractive.

Wertham specifically complained in Seduction of the Innocent that comic books lack "decent, attractive and successful" women and thought that portraying women as victims is harmful to boy's heterosexual development in its own way. He generally was a pretty progressive dude for his time, except his hysteria about children contracting homosexuality from comics that are not displaying explicit heterosexuality, and them learning to commit crimes in real life if it is portrayed the wrong way in fiction.

He was right in that we need more strong female characters and less panels showing Bruce Wayne and his ward Dick in bed together.

Batman seemed kinda gay back in the day. Every other superhero had a girlfriend on the side, or at least some woman in the side cast that they horned after at the beginning of every book. Batman seemed a little weird for never ever having a major love interest and hanging out with little boys all the time.

Batman and Superman were popular among 5-10 year olds. They were just trying to appeal to their audience. Little kids don’t care about heteronormative crap like that.

Kind of, every series needs some female characters. The problem is that every modern writer makes them gay every single time. Even the femme fatale villains are now 100% the opposite of that and gay these days.

Characters who were introduced as a major character's girlfriend is now gay too like Harley, Gwen Stacy, and Hawkgirl. All gay now because writers cannot have a female cast member in a franchise not be gay any longer for some reason.

At that point it's for parents who see the main guy only interact with a 12 year old buy and then assume it's some kind of gay subversion and tell their kids they are no loner allowed to read that again.

>millennial writers
I was in middle school when Gen Xer Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, and Grant Morrison made Kate Kane a lesbian, why do we get accused of this shit?

Harley yes. But she was Joker’s gf so that’s a step up.
But Hawkgirl and Gwen Stacy aren’t gay anon.

A strong, domineering woman -yes, this is a mother domination in a famlily, it happens, especially if a husband has a predisposition to it. Tsaritsa Catherine the Great was like that.

An independent woman is not, because marriage is dependance on a spouse, so the independent woman will be a lonely and sad old woman without children in old age.

Guess you missed the most recent Hawkgirl solo book.
