I don’t think everyone under the sun needs a redemption arc, actually.
>>151624405The stepmother was the only “evil” one. The sisters were just following her example.
>>151624405Didn't Disney already do this in one of the sequels? With one of the sisters, anyway.
>>151624405It's been done. There guy who wrote Wicked wrote a book about the Ugly Stepsisters and one of the actual Disney Cinderella sequels gave one of them a redemption arc.
>>151624405So many of these things about evil women of classic stories being "misunderstood" is such a bandwagon, they're churning it out for every possible story now (you can even throw Frozen into that, since they made the Ice Queen a poor little girl who did nothing wrong and shifted the position of villain onto some totally random dude)It was terrible as a trend all the way back in Wicked.
>>151624405I'm okay with this but only if it churns out more incest between the three of them. That's all I'm looking for out of this and I'm not going to waste time pretending otherwise.
>>151624405I think this depends on what they say about Cinderella. Apparently, the bad sisters team up with her to stop a grander threat, so it's not a case where bad guys are good while good guys are bad. That could be cute, but they need to adress the domestic abuse that is part of Cinderella's origin story. If they're not "that evil," then they shouldn't have been cunts to her and treat her like a slave. Cinderella was basically a prisoner on her own house, and the evil sisters contributed to it. So unless they change that drastically, there is no redemption for these cunts.
>>151624473I'm not into it, but y'know what? Good on you for being true to yourself.
>>151624436Cinderella 3.It's actually a genuinely good film, goes absolutely insane, makes Cinderella ultra hot, Anastasia cute and even gives the prince a character.
>>151624497Was that the one where he jumps out the window? I've seen that clip pop up once and a while.
>>151624405>stepsisters are AsianIt’s kind of funny how this is subtly an allegory about Asian striver girls being envious of white women who get with white men.
>>151624405As we are in the 2020s, it makes sense that modern media wants to depict blended or stepfamilies as likable as opposed to the 1950s
>>151624405Man, when it comes to villians being redeemed, the ugly step sisters were the last thing on my mind. This trend of misunderstood female villains is definitely better best forgotten. It's a real tragedy, how many films like this have there been? 5,6,7,8?
>>151624542>stepfamiliesTell me what’s genuinely wrong with that, without sounding like a retarded /pol/fag.
>>151624482You were definitely the type of kid to call doing chores slavery.
>>151624588I mean they didn't pay her or let her go.
>>151624405how many male villain prequels/origins have there been, where they're misunderstood
>>151624711There’s a Jafar musical called Twisted. Fables definitely counts for the Big Bad Wolf. Also Loki in the MCU, and maybe the Heat Miser/Snow Miser special? The Cat in the Hat Grinch crossover? That’s all I got.
>>151624405>>151624436>>151624440there's also Doris in Shrek too.
>>151624588There's doing chores and then there's "only one kid does the chores while my other kids get everything they want". Cinderella is not exactly a subtle story.
>>151624405Then they're not EVIL stepsisters and why are we watching the adventures of Cinderella and her okay family
>>151624809Loki is in a grey area, as though he's recently turned into a good guy in the MCU, he has been a pure villain for many years in the comics. So it's not revisionism as it's just the nature of comic book characters, shifting from hero to villains depending on the current story arc.
>>151624517yes
>>151624434I feel like this is the most common/realistic. The stepmother is a bitch, no argument there, but usually the stepsisters are just following their mother's lead and stepping out of line would get them similar treatment. It's a family power dynamic. It's probably gonna be Happily N'Ever After-tier garbage.
>>151624711There's a comic that reveals Judge Doom was originally good and turned evil due to an accident
>>151624566they're always acting up every damn time I get stuck in the dryer
>>151624536>asian stepsister movieNot my favorite genre but I've seen a couple of those
>>151624405I love random Netflix animated slop where you hoover up all the random mid budget films made around the world, it's mostly terrible but occasionally they're so bad it's goodSurprised /co/ wasn't all over this one for the hypnotised princess bit>this character was one of the minor villains>it's strongly implied he spends the rest of the film fucking the mum and her daughters
>>151624937Dammit, meant to post this webm
>>151624937im sorry, what in the everloving fuck?
>>151624711Someone wrote an official Frozen novel where Hans’ father beats him
>>151624904Heh
>>151624405We need good people in animation who don’t feel uncomfortable about every villain from classic animation, major or minor, who remind them of themselvesI’m sure there’s plenty of ugly chicks who abuse beautiful princesses in animation jobs!
>>151624588It kinda is when you're doing chores for an entire household by yourself with no help, no payment and aren't allowed to take time off or have fun without hiding it while the rest of the family lives like nobility
>>151624877The Drew Barrymore one did it quite well, one of the stepsisters is a bit more sympathetic to her and is only mean to Cinderella when pushed by the stepmother. When Cinderella leaves for a portion of the film, the stepmother and other stepsister pick on her instead. The Disney live action remake also characterised the stepmother well, it didn't excuse her actions or in anyway redeem her but it gave her a bit of depth that explained why she treated her so badly.
>>151624497>>151624436Cinderella 2 also had the stepsister fall in love with a baker and tell the stepmother off
>>151625116What depth? All that happened is Cinderella "forgave" the stepmother for... grace?
>>151625170it reveals that she genuinely loved Cinderella's father and was dreaming of a happy marriage with him, only to find out it was a marriage of convenience for him that he did for Cinderella's and that he never returned her affections all whilst showering Cinderella with the love he never would show her.
>>151624711scar in the shitty live action
I for one don't have a problem with this.We all already know the familiar Cinderella story, fuck it, give me an AU where the sisters are actually good, could be interesting.
>>151624937>consider myself pretty liberal and progressive>the idea of a harem of stereotypical cuties being hypnotized gets me rock hardMust be the tabooness of it I guessOr my growing up on Disney movies.
>>151624405I liked the stepsisters and thought they were weirdly hot, i dont hate this yet
>>151624536at least their mom managed to nab one
>>151624434I was Only following examples!
>No, Cinderella was the real bitchy sister after all!Is this femcel cope or what?
>>151624405The author of Wicked did that too.
>>151624497Need example of what about it made Cinderella hot.
>>151624536I mean that's assuming Cinderella is a white girl. Also here's hoping the Wicked Stepmother is hot.
>>151624536Given how the tale is originally Russian...yeah it sorta works. Russians with Asian features are considered lower than slavs, so it makes sense why the step sisters would have a chip on their shoulder
>>151625960Alternate pov versions of classic stories were kind of his bread and butter.
>>151626041Just the way she's animated in late Renaissance style makes her much more attractive compared to her semi-rotoscoped original styleShe also spends a lot of the film with her hair down running around in torn clothes
At some point Disney used to make all their villains flatchested or droopies. At some point they reversed it and all the princesses are beesting territory and villains (evil or misunderstood) are huge.
>>151625207>another "it was because guys are terrible" plot
>>151626364fukin squirgy ahh frame pupils movin like a robot but anything a glow up from the 50s
>>151626813Nah, the film doesn't blame the father, he was still a good man and treated her well, she just was always a distant second to his daughter.>>151626920 That's how eyes move. It's better than the weightless creepy motion you get with rotoscoping where the face closeups make her look like a predator
>>151625207Bitch already had daughters. She should have known that would be a likely outcome.
evil people being misunderstood is intentional programming by sociopaths/psyhcopaths to get you to be okay with their existence
>>151625848lol
