Has anyone else noticed this trend of people wanting to get rid of entire tropes, concepts, themes, etc in storytelling purely because a popular media did it poorly at one point? I swear I've seen this so many times.
>Grey morality
>Humans are the real monsters
>Characters dealing with their trauma and having emotional conversations
>Critiques of capitalism, consumerism, broader society etc.
Instead of wanting these tropes to be written better, people just want to throw them out wholesale purely because they were done poorly by something popular. They want to throw the entire orchard away because of a few bad apples and I think that's utterly retarded. Whenever a show does the opposite of these tropes, even in a bad way, they get universal praise from these retards. I don't know if it's because of the quality of discussion online slowly going down over the years or what. People talk about how bad modern writers are, but I can't imagine what kind of saccharine sterile shit these kinds of people would produce if they were in charge.

Kinda like how I want this thread to go away because you already made it poorly before

Game of Thrones sucking in its ending is what mostly started all this.

Right wing reactionaries ruined media discourse along with many other things.

>Grey morality
it just needs to be better written, it requires actual nuance
>Humans are the real monsters
genuinely a tiresome trope, we need to believe in each other and that we can be better
>Characters dealing with their trauma and having emotional conversations
would be great if it clearly wasn't the writer with unresolved issues with their own parents and not going to an actual therpaist or talking with their senpai
>Critiques of capitalism, consumerism, broader society etc.
because they're usually written by goddamn communists and no matter how you slice it, it is objectively the greater evil but its never called out for what it is, an excuse for power.

People have been critiquing capitalism fir as long as capitalism has been around

We would prefer these things to be better written but most industry writers are hacks.

You are right.

They didn't cause the problem, they just decided to exacerbate it like hypocrites.

I'm always torn about "capitalism bad" in media. On one hand it's objectively true and it's funny to see retards start reeing about muh gommunism whenever it happens in media, but on the other hand it's very rarely done well.

You mean Frieren?

>grey morality
everyone wants this all the time
>humans are the real monsters
fucking sick of it because people have taken it to heart and said 'okay.'
>dealing with trauma and emotional conversations
we want that, we just don't want it to be sappy, lame, toothless, and when more important danger is happening
>critiques of capitalism
literally the only thing allowed on tv
>broader society
yeah they never touch on that, because they ARE broader society.
>>151625296
that would require them to exist

and those people were called absolute monarchs
>wait, these people have money because they.. SOLD things?
>Yes, sire
>Not because they were born in the right family, and demand it from everyone in exchange for protection that we then outsource?
>that's correct, sire
>Bring me news like that again and it's off with your head!
>You know I think I'm going to go work for the merchant. I won't be as rich as him, but...

I'll tell you what trope I wanna get rid of
>every single fucking show has a hijab girl wearing clothes no hijab girl would ever wear, and doing activities she'd never be allowed to do, and she has to appear in every episode int he background
>>
I think you're trying too hard to hate modern stuff by saying they're all vague because they don't stick to tropes. Tropes still exist, but there is a push to be more personal with art than to just write well and make objectively well written mathematically correct stories or whatever the fuck Mauler pushes.

Art kinda is supposed to be therapy, that's what makes a story emotional. It only gets bad if the story is just mopey and sad and never anything else happens to make the story more engaging by having different emotions happen.

I don't know, man. I want to see entertainment as artistic expression, I like seeing different things, I kinda hate Hollywood kinda stories where everything expected happens, but I also don't wanna be scolded personally, I get that.

I stopped taking soap boxes seriously when I grew a pair and stopped thinking I was being targeted cause I was a straight white man.

I hope I'm making sense. I prolly won't be listened to because I'm not bashing modern stuff for being woke women written nepotistic cali onions jew tranny fat acceptance black people bean mouth calarts shit, but ya'll want nuance right?

Contrarians are stupid and always go for the most extreme response because they’re stupid, don’t worry about it too much.

Weirdly enough, I think the emotional trauma talks work well in TADC, even with how many it has. The reason is because in that show, baggage and memories are pretty much the only "real" things these characters have left. They can't just find something new with their lives without angering the all-powerful AI that decides where they go and what they can do, which tend to make their problems worse. They're all stuck in the ultimate dead end, grasping at anything that can give their lives meaning.
>>
>>151625418
The "humans are the real monsters" trope would work better if a character acted so egregiously they became the definitive monster, no one else could be as bad as them
>>
>>151628244
The reality of that trope is that it only works if things are allowed to be evil, then you show a character being far worse and more destructive of a force than the known evil.

Showing how a beast hunts , showing how a monster hunts, then showing what became of the man who hunts monsters.

It only works if we allow evil to exist in stories and these fucking writers can't even acknowledge that then try to pass humanity as evil then wonder why it never sticks or people side with the humans or designated monsters by the writers.
>>
>>151628392
The people who cry about calling humans evil, usually vindicate it by themselves wanting most of humanity dead over petty disagreements in they same breath they whine about betraying le species
