>>151625721>white boy/black girl pairingNow I know I'm reading a french comic.
>>151626107Thanks anon, got more pages?
This really should be the future of comics. You have all these kids reading manga who are going to imitate the style and it's inevitable that you'll have artists who can pull it off. The problem is you need publishers willing to publish that and not just typical scholastic crudely drawn stuff or sanded down edges to be cuter
>>151626275Learn French. France is your best bet if you are white, want to own your creation, and think you are good at drawing manga.
>>151625831Not a fan. It doesn't work when a Jap doesn't draw it. Something is off.
>>151626063This is a French comic.
>>151626536what is off about it
>>151626634>>151626536Nothing, that anon is retarded.
>>151626634>>151626697It lacks the kineticism and severity of a Japanese manga. In other words, it lacks OOMPH.
>>151626820>I am a retard and I will confirm it with retarded opinionsAnother day on 4chan.
>>151626820I don't agree
>>151626820NTA but I think it looks awesome and I buy it along with japanese manga. Visually speaking there is no difference with my favorite shonen.
>>151625721Cute
>>151626820I'm sure there's plenty of manga from Japan that aren't up to your standards either. At least it's attempting it.
>>151626206PROVD CVLTVRAL TRADITIONS
>>151626847So defensive.>>151626930>>151627060Agree to disagree, then. It's a noticeable difference to me.>>151627270Yeah, not all Japanese stuff is amazing, though some of them make up for it in unique ways. I appreciate the attempt, but I don't like this art whatsoever.
>>151626634Weak background work. Feels like the characters are in a void half the time and it's difficult to get a sense of space. Could also be a subtle framing problem too. Hard to say. In fairness, plenty of japs make these sort of mistakes too. Also might not be good at conveying action, but I'd need to see more examples to make a real judgment.
>>151627403I'm a weeaboo and I love itthis is the first and only western comic I have bought in years lol
>>151627493>Feels like the characters are in a void half the time and it's difficult to get a sense of space? Are you used to reading manga? I read a lot of manga and I don't have that problem.
>>151627493" heh where are the backgrounds" is such a shitty, rehashed complaint. complaint. They're established earlier,>>151625445 or bought back when it needs to be the focus of a scene.>>151625590 Once the are, it's visually easier to read if they're not cluttering up panels. In a drawing, every line and visual element becomes noiseAmerican comics have all these dated rules that hurt the readability of them compared to manga for most casual readers. Very visually dense and uncomfortable to read. When I was attempting to be a comic artist I remember hearing all these rules like constantly establishing backgrounds or always showing full figures or never doing too many headshots on a single page, and it's all just based on 22 page American superhero comics. adhering to these rules so hard dates American works, badly.

>>151626275You need writers willing to stuff their egos to the side and write around it being a visual medium first and then artists capable of actually paneling out action sequences. There's a reason why its a mangaka and his assistants instead of writer, penciler, letterer, colorist, etc.
>>151634811
I hate this shonenfag style. Why can't weeb artists imitate some cool normalfag manga like Berserk or Vagabond?

>>151634812>You need writers willing to stuff their egosYeah, american comics are doomed.
>>151634812Why do you need writersThe artist is also the writer herewhy do you presume there needs to be a writer who isn't also the artist, Japan doesn't do that, this French artist doesn't do that, why do you think it's needed in the first place?
>>151634974You don't but i doubt any american publisher will actually do the smart thing and just hire the creative to do the whole creative thing
>>151635029What about Dark Horse, don't do they do creator-owned? Or is it all established IP licensing now?
Does Ghost Pepper countI like Ghost Pepper
>>151635518It's a good comic but it does feel more typical western comic, like too many conversations crammed into one page.
I want to see if the prequel comic sheds some light on Seth's origin.Lots of the same people with horns, innate magical power like a monster and their super-powered mode has claws makes me think dragons. In which case it's the dragon on the princess.
>>151634974Some artists could definitely use an actual writer
>>151634974Artists make for shit writers.
>>151636979>>151637366Repeat after me: comics are a VISUAL medium.
>>151637416like text?
>>151634974The difference is that in Japan (and to an extent the bigger euro scenes), comic artists are more like writers who draw to tell stories and not just illustrators. A lot of American artists are aimless and basically just are trying to find ways to apply their art instead of having a story first. In Europe and especially Japan, being a comic storyteller is a viable conceptThe Even a Monkey can draw Manga series is a good look into the thought process. It's aimed at helping people who want to tell a story be able to draw it, not at teaching existing artists to write, because that's less viable. It's easier to teach art than it is to teach imagination, which you need as a storyteller. You can teach writing techniques like plot structure, but you need to have to want to make a story first which a lot of artists lack drive for.
>>151637416They're a visual NARRATIVE medium.>>151637454Kek.
>>151637454No. Comics exist without words.
>>151637708You don't need text to narrate. You really notice this when you read comics in a language you don't speak. Try reading Radiant translated into Japanese. You can still get a sense of the story as it's moving forward, a sense of this is happening and I can follow along, the words don't matter because they are unreadable to you but you still SEE the narration. WORDS WORDS WORDS fucking ruins this.
>>151637882Who said only text involved writing?
>>151638314>text is a visual medium, you need separate writers>actually no you don't need text but you still totally need separate writers because....just because ok
>>151638499You don't know how this works.
>>151639575I know the manga I read have a mangaka who does both art and story and comics that have a ' writer' are not comics I readYou should be more like mangaka
>>151639702Thanks for confirming that you don't know what you're talking about.
>>151639841>he whines, while manga shits on american comics in every market
>>151625254Fuck off.
