I like how expressive and lively the animation is in this film, it’s like they’ve finally learned how to apply Disney principles like exaggeration and squash and stretch into 3D, it makes the first film look lifeless in comparison, and it’s also funny how they’re mogging Pixars shitty Grubhub movies in terms of visuals.

What are your thoughts on the new animation style?

Did they just feel compelled to include the imagery somewhere because it was in the teaser?

I was really expecting the puffball to come back into play during a fight scene, like Gary using a balled up scarf to distract him.
>>
>>151627652
I think the first one looks as good in a different way. It felt like they transferred the soul of their 70s cartoons (ala Robin Hood), whereas this one feels like they incorporated more of their earlier rubberhose work along with some of their late 80s and 90s works. Both feel like culminations, and that's probably why they so drastically surpass every other Disney product released in the past decade, at least for me.

It feels like the fluid animation of the Disney Renaissance films translated into 3D, hot take but I always hated how their Revival Era films looked and felt like they were a clear downgrade from their 2D work, this film was a neat surprise cause the visuals were actually taking advantage of the fact that they were animated.

Gary and Judy have more in common with one another than Judy and Nick do, and since Nick is canonically gay and “only” cares about Judy in a platonic, protective way, it makes more sense for the bun and snek to hookup whilst the fox cheers on from a distance.
Plus, wouldn’t it be funny if her name was changed to Judy De’Snake after marriage?

I dunno, it's a pretty classic romantic comedy gag, and with a good enough time skip, could transition into a plot of them having to essentially not much move their relationship along but also transition into a new part of their lives.
Maybe one of them works to become an actual detective while the other doesn't? Or maybe they just kind of realize that they don't need to spend every second with each other, that's certainly a lesson some couples never really get down.

Rule one of poisoning, never not have the antidote on you. There was an incident once where Mossad had assassins going after some asshole and their plan involved this wrist-mounted squirt gun that sprayed a powerful skin-contact poison, which would have gone off without a hitch if someone hadn't seen it happen right there and then. They had to administer the antidote immediately and get the fuck out of there.

just talked with a person that's 100% convinced that all the romantic gags are there to poke fun of the shippers and the movie confirms them as totally platonic.

I so fucking called it that if the movie doesn't settle the shipping debate its gonna get worse and more toxic than before.

People actively believe the directors would shit on 80% of their audience that ships Judy and Nick as a form of a gotcha moment, instead of admitting that there is definitely a romantic subtext to the movie.

100% agreed
People think "oh he was just abused, he thinks he has no other choice but to appease and go back to his abuser, its a mental illness"

No, Pawbert had his own place set up out in the desert away from his family. He very much was okay with getting far away from them, someone who is stuck in appeasement and trauma bonding with its abuser, does not try to get away from them like that.

But the first moment he got a chance to ear daddy's respect, he wasn't even afraid of murder.
He befriended Gary with the plan to kill him from the first moment he read his letter. He didn't have a single moment of sincerity in his interactions with Judy and Gary.

That is psychopath levels of lying and manipulation. Don't think he can be trusted.

>If it becomes evident the ongoing story is not preparing a resolution, then fans will stop following the work.

The will-they-wont-they fatigue is definitely a thing, and I'm already at it. The second movie, didn't give me any new inspirations about Judy's and Nick's relationship or dynamic, that I haven't portrayed before in my fanfics or fanarts.

They could've pulled off more teasing if we would be in 2022.
But for fans that have been active in the fandom for a decade that is no longer just teasing, that is malicious and ill-intended exploitation of our hope and enthusiasm.

It seems like the second film actually gave you some answers on that. The characters obviously have feelings for one another that go beyond just friendship. More than that, the fact that they declined to wrap that plotline up this time around while simultaneously teasing a third film tells me that it was intentional. I don't think you guys should be worried about them bitching out because everyone, even the creators seem to enjoy the idea of a romance and want to get some mileage out of it.
>>
>>151635488
One of the first things Pawbert says to Judy - who is a total stranger at that point - is “Oh yeah, I’m a Lynxley too. Or at least I’m trying to be.” I think his awkwardness and dorkiness is real for most part, but he also genuinely sees his asshole dad as an aspiration. He sees the power, fear and respect his family commands and wants to have it too.
His desire for respect could theoretically pave a way for his redemption (if he learned that respect could be earned in more honest ways), but as of now he’s too amoral and power hungry for that.

Anon, did you actually read the article you linked? It talks about fans losing interest in the couple after the shipping is confirmed and made official, not because of too much teasing. The usual reason is that the couple is written poorly, their relationship has no conflict, depth or spice, and/or one of the characters is sidelined by the story and becomes irrelevant.

Jared said that in an early version of the couple disguise, Judy's and Nick's cover isn't blown by Bogo radioing in on them, but Gideon walking in and recognizing them.

Jared said that he requiered too much explination to why he was there in the first place, and probably to Nick who this weird fox is that knows Judy, it made the scene to slow and drag on too long, so they wrote him out.

Hope we get some with him in Zootopia 3

SyncUP's V1 cam from a week ago doesn't have this, video and audio much worse though.

Movie is great, might see it again this evening

Couple of bits confuse me though

Why were the Scottish (?) boar officers listening to Lynxley in the first place, much less complying with a demand to go lethal? They're introduced as seemingly very straight and narrow and by the book so it feels really strange that they're just going along with what this guy (however influential) is yelling
If they had a scene where the ZPD is completely adrift without Bogo and are shown to rush into following the orders of the first person to speak with any authority at all that might be one thing, or if some of the cops were explicitly crooked like the mayor
Actually come to think of it, the ZPD pursuers should have simply been private security goons working for the Lynxleys directly from the start, stepping in and bypassing the police after Bogo is hospitalized

Second one is the moment where they're chasing Judy and Friends up to the heating wall and they run into Gazelle
I guess I can believe that she trusts Judy enough to fight the police for her without question. What confused me is she (iirc) specifically calls out the Zebros as if she already knew and hated them personally. Did I miss something earlier in the film that established that connection? Was there a joke or pun in play that flew over my head?

Oh, and HOLY JUDY SEX GODDAMN >>151634656

More like Judy's need to prove Gideon wrong in her youth caused her to put her self worth into being able to achieving her goals, rather than being proud of that which she achieves. This ends up leading her to have to be the best, to always be the one who catches the bad guy, to need to be the one to save the world. Because if she can't do that then it means she's a failure.

Nick's isolation from others leads to him having issues making connections with others, while at the same time getting better and better at reading others, and paradoxically leading to having a strong sense of self and high self confidence, so long as it doesn't involve actually connecting with others, which is where he will instead deflect, excuse, and push away so as to not be put into a position of vulnerability and thus be harmed again.
>>
>>151640741
Cute!
>>
>>151640700
Good questions.

The boar officers dont make sense to me either. I guess somehow the Lynx family has a lot of authority without Bogo in charge but direct orders to kill is hella corrupt, although technically it was by accident. In any case they should be charged with corruption and missuse of force and lose their job at the very least. Same goes for the horse Mayor.

As for the Zebros and Gazelle beef, I missed that too on my first watch. Its a REALLY short interaction at the gala where one of the Zebros shoves one of the Tigers so he falls over. Gazelle sees this and thats basically it. Not sure how that allows her to beat up police on duty without consequence though, though technically we dont know that either.

Theres a few more problems like this I have with the movie, but like you I still think its great overall.
>>
>>151640700
>Why were the Scottish (?) boar officers listening to Lynxley in the first place
Best guess is that Hoggbottom was essentially the ranking officer at the time, and was initially taking orders directly from Winddancer, who may have told her to listen to Lynxley at some point
>What confused me is she (iirc) specifically calls out the Zebros as if she already knew and hated them personally.
One of the Zebros pushed over one of her back up dancers at the Gala.
>>
>>151640833
>>151640700

>>
>>151640833
>>151640859
Huh, well that's one question answered

Also lol I just thought of a third. Had to run out to piss and missed the part where Nick and Nibbles bust out
How did they pull that off? Some Boiling Rock shit and start a riot or something?
>>
>>151640914
>How did they pull that off? Some Boiling Rock shit and start a riot or something?
Nibbles gets a piece of wood (I think it's a handle to a broom?) and chews a key out of it, unlocking her and nicks cells. guards notice and they run, eventually finding an exit door. Nick hits a button to unlock the door, but it is, inexplicably, a button that opens all of the cells instead. All the inmates attack Nick and Nibbles, and break through the door, leading to a large jail break, and all the inmates taking all of the vehicles, requiring Nick and Nibbles to call on Flash instead.
>>
>>151640794
I dont see the connections between all your points but youre roughly right Id say.

But simply put. Judy needs outside validation while Nick doesnt. This leads to Judy having to prove herself since shes always told she wont succeed and Nicks lonelier lifestyle.

Judy is bad at compromising while Nick is good at it. Both mindsets have their pros and cons as Judy learns at the end.
>>
>>151640859
Yeah but I missed the part before where the Tiger gets shoved. I was just like "Vengeance for what?"

>>151640914
Thats another questionable part. For some reason theres a "open all cells" button. Id get it if it was like a prison at sea and they didnt want people to drown in case of flooding, but I cant see that being the case here.
>>
>>151641031
>For some reason theres a "open all cells" button.
That's a thing at normal prisons. Do you think they unlock every single cell one by one when it's lunch time or time in the yard, etc?
>>
>>151640993
>I dont see the connections between all your points
Which ones? I'll be the first to admit that I am terrible at explaining myself so it could help me out too.
But yeah, I've liked some of the general talk I've seen that of the two's issues in the film. Judy's constant need to be the best, to "win" at whatever they're doing, actively stresses their relationship, while Nick's inability to communicate his feelings pushes Judy away more. And Judy's problems are something you can see in the first movie as well, and isn't addressed at all (granted then it's sort of put up more as a joke) so it's a nice tie in and continuation of her character arc there.

Because they've done this stuff to put the two into a good relationship with each other, my guess is that the third movie would have to be a much more external force on their relationship. Something that may attempt to split them up, either professionally or romantically, would I think be the main emotional arc for the two of them. If they do end up in an official romantic relationship, I do not see them remaining partners, and that there could be enough to attempt to force them to evolve their relationship. Losing a whole side of how you interacted with a person can be tough, after all.
>>
>>151641096
Touche, but is it really that easily accessible?
>>
>>151641217

>>
>>151641181
The easiest plot idea would be to have something happen where Nick is forced to quit the force and Judy has to choose between staying on the force or him. Literally making her decide if they are just partners or "partners".
>>
>>151639148
I wonder why they didn't fill in the gaps by splicing in video from the lower quality rip. Seems like an obvious solution.

I was just a little confused by your phrasings I think.
For example, I would explain Nicks persona more as simply afraid of being himself. Hes very good at handling others because no one can really get through his facade, which is why hes adept at dealing with people superficially since its all he does.

I think saying Judy needs to always win is too broad as well, I dont take her as a sore loser necessarily. But as you said she feels a need to always do her best, or even sacrifice herself for others. Thats what can become destructive at a point. This is where Pawbert is more similar to Judy than Nick and something I love in the writing. Since he also seeks validation from others, namely his family, he is willing to get there without compromise like Judy, just at the cost of everyone else instead.

Nick on the other hand is good at compromise which Judy finds disagreeable before they separate. But seeing how Pawbert twists her ideals and need for validation, then also realizing that Nick too is willing to sacrifice himself entirely, but only for her, is the real growth Id like to think I see at the end at least.

Oh and as for the next step, either a hatred towards interspecies couples or the choice between Nick and her job is the most obvious choices I can see.

It could simply be a question of promotion too, which might automatically take Judy away from Nick, but her choosing to stay a beat cop with him.
Id seriously doubt if they made them actually split up at the end and Judy being like the new Chief.
Thought both of them starting their own Private Investigator firm is possible, they sure seem hesitant as hell to put them in actual police uniform anyway.

posted in the wrong thread oops, lemme try again

Just got home from the theaters. First watch.

Anyone else kinda... "ehhhh" on this movie? The first half is genuinely pretty great. I was thoroughly enjoying myself right up until the point where the carrot pen drops off the cliff. From pretty much that point forward, the movie kinda takes a bit of a nosedive. I wasn't too big on Gary, though he wasn't bad or anything. Pawbert (or whatever the fuck his name was) however was fucking awful. He starts as a relatively inoffensive side character that has a few good lines and some chuckle worthy gags, but good fucking god. I could FEEL the desperation the writers had to come up with a villain. What a load of shit. At least there were good Nick and Judy moments afterwards, but man I soured heavily on the movie after they had their stupid predictable "I'm upset with you" temper tantrums that we ALREADY WENT THROUGH THE FIRST MOVIE

I wanted to like this movie but goddamn. The first movie blows it out of the fucking water.

That said, the moment they had him utter a word like "daddy" it was absolutely over for any dignified fan depiction

Anon, I agree with almost everything you typed. I saw it back on Black Friday and had largely the same reaction.

>villains, Pawbert especially, were lame and uninteresting
>the new song sucked compared to Try Everything
>Judy came off as petulant and impulsive, which isn't her character
>Gary sucked in every respect
>the beaver was obnoxious
>they wasted Patrick Warburton
>etc

If anything, it made me appreciate the first movie that much more.
>>
Nick was in the right the entire movie. Judy should have apologized when he asked for one.

If that was true then he had a perfect chance to bring him to justice and be the one member of his family to be seen as a hero. Instead he chose to murder his allies and cover for his father. Proving he really is no better than him.

Incorrect. Especially with Pawbert. They were refreshingly and frankly, realistically evil.

>>the new song sucked compared to Try Everything
This disqualifies everything you've said anyway. You really suck.

>>Judy came off as petulant and impulsive, which isn't her character
No she didn't. She was completely in character trying to outdo herself and prove that she deserves to be where she's at. Pay fucking attention to the movie.

>>the beaver was obnoxious

Different guy here. It doesn't suck, it's just not as good. You can tell more effort and skill went into Try Everything...because Sia is a talented songwriter and performer, whereas Shakira probably just performs songs written by others. Whoever wrote Zoo was just not as good.
>>
>>151645594
>>151645869
Theyve both got their pros and cons.
1 is absolutely obsessed with every single line being about predators, prey, or stereotypes. 2 feels like a long episode of a tv show.
>>
>>151645868
I already did to go out to the pictures and see the film.
I can barely remember half of what happens because so much of the film was recapberries.
First film was better because Nick wasn't a complete spineless faggot, but what spine he had was entirely removed and he was turned into a little emotional bitch.
>>
>>151645869
Ah, like I thought: Shakira herself wrote Zoo. Shoulda tapped Sia again for a song.
>>
>>151645889
What is Sia doing nowadays?
>>
>>151645869

Zoo's music and lyrics were written by Ed Sheeran Blake Slatkin and Shakira.

I literally cannot imagine Gary in a relationship. Maybe it’s just that he doesn’t seem emotionally ready for one, or maybe it’s that the trauma that reptiles have gone through would make it difficult for any of them to open up to anyone (especially a m*mmal).

Best part was first 30 mins when it was Nick and Judy dealing with work stuff. We see them walk home with pretty sunset. We saw their homes and their lives. After the gala part, it started to suck. I don't care about the reptiles. I only cared about Nick and Judy.

I think the big problem was the pacing. That was my major complaint with Sonic 3 also. I get they have to fit an animated action adventure into sub 2hours but it really saps your enjoyment when things are always moving so rapidly and you barely have time to digest anything because there's a high-intensity chase scene every 10 minutes. They were probably only in marshtown for like 15 minutes before they were leaving again; a setting that I thought was gonna be the main setting of the film. The characters barely have time to really interact with one another because they're always moving.

Ed Sheeran's entire M.O. is to write inoffensive, easily digestible feel-good tunes that force themselves into your head and turn your brain to mush. There's no substance, they're just brewed in a lab to tickle your feel-good chemicals.

You just watch. Zoo will chart because of this, and then vanish off the face of the earth once the next product arrives.

This.

This setting has an absolutely endless mine of gorgeous and interesting places to do a Scooby Doo type case of the week show.

Give us another season of zootopia+ focused on Nick and Judy doing their jobs. They can piece together a case and confront a villain at the end, build out their personal relationship in the quiet moments, and the city and setting gets vital time to breathe and feel lived in.
