They're cute and it's a shame they have to be buried because of political correctness.
>>151633069Why is it bad for the slaves to be happy anyway...
>>151633405They don't want us to know about the laughing place.
>>151633069The last thing they were in was a House of Mouse episode from the 2000s.
>>151633069After watching the movie a few years ago, I really think that it would be better for Disney to just release it than to sit on it forever. As it is, it's been mythologized as some super racist thing, when in reality it's literally one of the most wholesome movies I've ever seen. The idea of them releasing it would get backlash at first, but I guarantee that within a couple days of it being released, the primary response would be, "Wait, that's it?"
>>151633069Everyone would have easily forgiven a lack of political correctness, if it hadn't been such a boring crummy-ass movie. The cartoon portions were insultingly childish, and the live action was obvious cheap time filler.
>>151633880It's a genuinely charming movie. I even like the non animated parts.
>>151633880This movie is absolutely a Streisand-Effect esque situation where it’s legacy mostly comes from its lack of a home release. I think most levelheaded people would chalk this movie up to simply being a product of it’s time if they actually watch it.
>>151633405Because happy slaves or a kind slave owner would weaken the created conflict between whites and blacks in the US. Most freed slaves themselves decided to stay with their masters or adopted their master's surnames and left on good terms, but of course this doesn't fit the narrative that "WHITEY ALWAYS KEEPING THE BLACK MAN DOWN!"The few cruel slave owners were just a few isolated incidents that were used to claim ALL owners were cruel with no exceptions.
>>151633905It's literally less "problematic" than some of the stuff they do have available, like Peter Pan's depiction of natives.
>>151633405They were happy sharecroppers, not happy slaves.
I think the main problem with Song of the South is just that it's really... boringThe animated parts are nice, but the live action parts just drag on for so long and barely even tell a proper storyLike >>151633880 said, if they just released the movie the whole stigma behind it would most certainly vanish and people would just think of it as another standard but not outstanding Disney movies of the time
>>151633889I never really thought about it before, but why is it not considered part of Disney's animated "canon"? Fun and Fancy Free counts even though it has live-action segments, so why doesn't this count?
Remake with Zootopia characters?
>>151634023Fun and Fancy Free only had the handful of Edgar Bergen framing scenes in live-action. Song of the South was significantly more live-action focused.
>>151633069Do black people really hate this movie, or is it just white liberals who don’t want this released?
>>151633405What does a slave have to be happy about?

>>151634335Technically the design of Splash Mountain would probably count as being copyrighted itself and wouldn't be public domain until much farther in the future.
>>151634391Not the characters; I mean the literal ride design. But they could probably still do something similar-ish.
>>151634204Being in a civilized country and not back in Africa getting slaughtered over tribal war shit, for one.
>>151635362yeah because Americans didn’t just have a tribal war over whether slavery was allowed or not
>>151633069The Disney comics I used to read as a kid in Finland had these guys in them sometimes. Never even knew they had anything to do with slavery at the time.
>>151633880>>151633905>>151633924>>151633973You know how Disney intentionally set Treasure Planet up to fail as an excuse to torpedo its 2D animation department? Same thing with Song of the South. Everyone knows the movie is harmless. It was rereleased as recently as the 80s. Disney just feels they get more social cred by acting like they're burying a shameful past than releasing a mildly controversial by today's standards movie.Song of the South has more worth to Disney as a sacrificial lamb than as one of their many forgetable live action movies of the era.
>>151634204>Roof over head>Food in belly>Master provided GFI feel like most you idiots would unironically want to be slaves.
>>151633069Disney's refusal to release this movie is certainly an unnecessary extreme. Unlike the "censored eleven" or many other movies/cartoons pre-1960, Song of the South isn't really built around racist comedy nor does it seem to be intentionally demeaning. The black characters have stereotypical vernacular and it is a little weird that a character like Uncle Remus, a former slave, is shown to have a fond view of his past is actually sad to leave the place where he was very much implied to be a slave, but it seems doubtful that the intention is actually for him to miss being slave in particular. This movie could probably be released with a disclaimer added to the start that makes it clear that it takes place in the reconstruction era rather than the slavery era, that it is based on an old book from that time period and that the movie itself was made in a time when the creative decisions weren't as controversial. Somebody still wouldn't like it but it's not like such disclaimers are an uncommon practice.
>>151633069The real reason Uncle Remus is buried is so white people don't catch on that Brer Rabbit is a primer.
>>151633467The last major thing they appeared in outside of theme park merch was the Disneyland Adventures game for the Kinect.>>151634023Same reason why Roger Rabbit and Mary Poppins aren't. They're more live action-oriented than cartoon-oriented.
>>151633951No one gets this right. If you see a black man in the field they have to be slaves. Just look at the debacle of She-Ra's little doodle.
>>151637112What is this SJW apologizing for?
>>151637112I genuinely cannot tell what the issue is? Is it the guy wearing the straw hat because thats just standard cartoon farmer attire? Is he even supposed to be black its impossible to tell?
>>151633069they could have just get rid of the black guy and make it about the animals instead but Disney was like "NO! the nigger stays"
I was just in Disneyland Tokyo was kinda surprised to see Splash Mountain still feature them there
