In the yesteryear of season 2 and even into Season 3, it was known that Rick had some kind of backstory but they refused to reveal it because it was, in their eyes, unrelated to the situation they found themselves in.Ironically, it was probably one of the smarter jokes of the show, continuously dedicating itself to the idea that because the core source of development would be the character's day to day lives during their one off adventures. That all we needed to know about Rick's backstory was that it was something that caused him to run from interpersonal dynamics and that we were seeing the other half of his life so to speak.
