It was good, actually
It was shit, actually
>>151645621>nothing happens until the last volume: the comic
>>151645621hitman and preacher are way better
It makes its point pretty effectively early on but then keeps beating it into the ground for a long time.
>>151645654What, you didn't like the sixteen identical arcs of Butcher beating people with vastly superior powers to death with his bare hands?
>>151645715Super Duper and The G-Men are very different from each other
It's whatever. It's far from Ennis' best, but it still does a decent job with The Boys' characterizations and has its great moments (that the show slaughtered). The show completely fucked up Butcher/Hughie relationship for instance. The kneejerk "The Boys is just the worst comic ever" faggotry is mostly from youtuber lemmings and faggots who seethe at Ennis no matter what.
>>151645621It's not, but it's also not that bad, except for the art.
>>151645621Why do you think that?
I like they are fighting Celebrities insteed of "le bad heros".
>>151645897It ostensibly wins le ebin culture war, and nothing else
It just proves that Ennis needs a tard wrangler to suppress his more juvenile tendencies.
>>151645621It would've been better if it was shorter. We didn't need to see every hero but deformed or evil.
>>151645621It wasn't and got impressively MORE retarded as the comic went on. Then it felt Ennis had a mandate for a certain number of issues but only had a story that fit 3/4 of that.
>>151645621>>151645644yeah it was good shit.

Decent artwork (for the most part, geez) does a lot of heavy lifting in this one. It's decidedly mid through and through. Ennis is a hack, but this is far from his most egregious work.
>>151645621No it wasn'tIt's fine in the broadstrokes but it suffers from the same problems every single Ennis superhero book does when he's not constrained by editors
Underrated. But I don't like the detective format of the series. For anyone who doesn't remember or has never read it, The Boys is written as an investigation series where the boys collect evidence against the heroes. This is less interesting than if the series were about skirmishes between the boys and the heroes. I also don't like the military and Democratic Party wankery in the series. Still, the characters are well written, especially Hugie. Ennies does the best job with the characters. I mean, even though he loves to write about war, violence, and tough guys, Ennies' strength is character work. Hugie's personal woes are more interesting than anything else in this series.
>>151645621I have doubts
>>151645621no, the idea of the military industrial complex using heroes as their exclusive weapon and aiming to win defence contracts could have been interesting but the execution was fucking direlike the pro, ennis cannot be objective with his hatred of superheroes so he just went way over the top (superheroes are all selfish and degenerate and ultraviolent), and the stakes were extremely low too, given how overpowered the boys were. the final confrontation was also a massive anticlimax.the last arc was a genuinely good ending and there was a good comic in there somewhere but on the whole it was gross, unnecessarily edgy and the plot was not great, though ennis writes quite viscerally and writes characters very well, as other anons have said.in my personal opinion, it was more edgy than crossed, particularly with the malchemical and super-duper stuff
