This is already one of the best Batman runs of the last 30 years, pretty high up there too for my money. If anything I think it’s underestimated how hard it is, and ballsy, to take this big of a swing at reimagining the character. It does a near perfect job of capturing what Batman should look like if he was starting out today. Sure, Snyder is a bit of a Pearl clutcher and he’s also hitting similar beats as his earlier Batman stuff but it’s different enough, refined and it feels like he’s writing with lessons learned in mind. It could dip off a cliff but I hope it doesn’t, I’m rooting for it.

I liked the first arc of this series and the two-part story with Freeze Jr. but starting with Bane it went off the rails so fast. Snyder is good at teasing shit but seems cursed to have all of his stories collapse in on themselves due to an overload of cringe. I don't even know why I bother reading comics anymore when the best new Batman book in years was a limited series that would have been some B-tier Legends of The Dark Knight entry had it come out 30 years earlier.
