Did you know this shit has been going on for 15 years?
>>
>>151650268
I did not know actually..
>>
>>151650268
That is 30 times more time than Willis was an actual college student.

I have always found it funny that Willis is just regurgitating what he saw in TV shows into his comic and people gobble it up.
>>
>>151651563
because it's mostly "queer" shit. It has as much to do with college as School of Had Knockers
>>
>>151650268
>Found out that Joyce was gay, just not for her
>Lost her girlfriend
>Lost her religion
>Cut off her wacky hair swoop
>Is acting like everything is fine
So... is she suicidal? This is a pretty obvious mental health crisis for a main character and yet
>All the comments are complaining about how the page went up FIVE MINUTES LATE
Willis has to hate his readers right?
>>
>>151652978
Becky's going to go on a shooting spree
>>
>>151653020
>Toedad arc plays out again in perfect parallel
I'd take back everything bad I've ever thought about Willis and DoA
>>
>>151653201
Willis would never have the balls
>>
>>151652978
>Willis has to hate his readers right?
Probably but he deserves it.
>>
>>151650268
you need a mirror to check what you'd look like without bangs
>>
>>151650268
Is it any good? I have a soft spot for campus novels but I haven't read too many comics with that setting other than Giant Days.
>>
>>151656073
No, it just goes off the rails about every five years. First time the MC's former bestie showed up, squatted on campus, then got kidnapped at gunpoint by her psychotic father while the RA had an alcoholic breakdown after someone made a veiled disparagement at a transwoman. Second time the aforementioned psychotic father teamed up with the mobster father of the campus superhero to kidnap the cast of the comic with an army of frat guys so mobster dad's daughter would be forced to drop out of college. Now the two MCs decided to cheat on their boyfriends before hooking up with each other which singlehandedly derailed the protest movement on campus.
>>
>>151656073
Oh no.
Hell no.
It isn't even a campus story.
The characters don't do anything in the campus. 90% of the comic just happens in the dorms or immediately near the dorms.
Nobody has any clubs, activities, friends outside the dorms, jobs or hobbies to perform outside the dorms.

Nobody has any fucking life. The character that get the most attention are artist self inserts that care only about drawing, retro videogames, and transformers.

For a comic featuring like 20 characters, it is very lifeless except for overly dramatic moments and romance drama.
>>
>>151656685
It's pretty impressive how Willis managed to stretch out the one semester of college he attended into a 15 years and counting comic.
>>
>>151656548
>>151656685
What makes the comic good, aside from the random batshit insane story, is just picking it apart and dissecting and snarking on both it and Willis himself the same way Willis and others do with newspaper strips or Transformers or whatever. Especially as Willis clearly considers himself a better writer than the people he's spent decades making fun of.
>>
>>151657753
Longer than that. Roomies (and thus the original Walkyverse) started in 1997. We're coming up on 30 years of Willis writing comics based o that one or two semesters he spent in college.
>>
>>151657753
>>151658155
In all fairness to Willis, Roomies! ended after two years at which point it was rebooted into a sci-fi action comedy with It's Walky!.

>>151656685
>>151658134
Nothing particularly interesting happens with any frequency during classes according to my college experience but where Willis errs is that people start generating separate social groups from their classes in addition to the ones from their living arrangements - even if the people from their classes also live in the same dorm building. Ultimately the fatal flaw of DoA is that for most of the time it's about as interesting as actually attending college.
>>
>>151658458
>In all fairness to Willis, Roomies! ended after two years at which point it was rebooted into a sci-fi action comedy with It's Walky!.
It's Walky is a continuation of Roomies though. It's not a reboot in the same way Dumbing of Age is. It's still set in the same contiuity. It doesn't really change the fact that he's been using the same characters, or iterations of the same characters, for 30 years and riffing on shit that happened in the old continuity that started 30 years ago (Carla being trans because Ultra-Car in Shortpacked was a male robot in a female robot body for example).
>>
>>151656548
Don't forget the Carla/Mary epic
>>
>>151658543
Sure, but its disingenuous to say that Willis was milking his freshman semester experience when his cast got kidnapped by aliens and the setting shifted to a secret organization of superpowered abductees fighting aliens and alternate realities.

>>151658637
It was briefly alluded.
>>
>>151658730
Oh yeah, I missed it
>>
>>151650268
Have they even finished a year in world?
>>
>>151657753
Impressively bad.
>>
>>151658762
It's only been ten whole minutes in DOA time.
>>
>>151658134
Willis makes fun of Funky Winkerbean but his comic copies the delivery of jokes from it with more boring storylines.
>>
>>151658762
I think they've maybe finished the length of time of a single pregnancy. Maybe.
>>
>>151658762
Five months have passed since the start of the comic, however there was an approximate 2.5 month timeskip.
>>
>>151658762
>>151659115
He can never complain about pacing in a story this makes The Dressrosa Arc in Onepiece look like a speed run.
>>
>>151659130
timeskip? when? why?
>>
>>151659158
To avoid story ramifications he was well aware would happen if he did what he did.
>>
>>151659251
what?
what did Willis fuck up this time?
>>
>>151659290
Amber's father wanted to force her to drop out of school so he would have to stop paying her tuition so to do this he dressed up like a supervillain and recruited his stepson, Toedad and Rapin' Ryan (and I think they were being supported by Joyce's mom?) in a Legion of Doom which resulted in them terrorizing the campus, kidnapping multiple students, and the deaths of Toedad and Mike and Amber gutting Rapin' Ryan like a fish.

He then timeskipped a few months to avoid having to actually write the fallout of any of it.
>>
>>151650268
No, I've been trying to ignore it for the past several years and you killed my streak.

>>151658134
That doesn't make it "good", anon. You're just wasting time hatereading.
>>
>>151659486
>You're just wasting time hatereading.
I get joy and amusement out of making fun of it. How is tha wasting time?
>>
>>151656685
That's a shame. Are there any good comics about being in university?
>>
>>151659471
so nothing ever came of it? no mention or epilogue?
>>
>>151659762
You could've spent all that time masturbating instead, let that sink in for a moment
>>
>>151660270
what if you masturbate to the hate?
>>
>>151660001
Comics are not a great medium for college settings.
"Silver Spoon" is a manga about a farm sciences college, but that's the only one I can think of right now.

Quit crying, Willis.
>>
>>151650268
Well yeah. It feels so dated- like an old man trying to be young and hip.
>>
>>151660550
yet people still donate to him.
I can't figure it out.
>>
>>151659471
Rapin' Ryan was actually a complete separate storyline that wrapped up during the setup to Toedad's Wild Ride 2; he wasn't involved in the later arc. Joyce's mom didn't support them, she just believed Ross shouldn't have gone to jail and trusted Blaine. And he recruited an army of frat guys.
>>
>>151660676
Willis is such a hack
>>
>>151660392
Too bad, I liked Giant Days. Octopus Pie isn't college, but it is kind of the gold standard for slice of life about people in their 20s. I'm in the mood for something new in that area but there doesn't seem to be much, as you say.

Oh you don't need to worry about that.
>>
>>151661711
I enjoy the random moment, that usually happens once a year or so, when Willis makes Mary based without meaning to. Those are always great.
>>
>>151656685
>jobs
Do students who live on campus usually have those? Most of my classmates worked but I went to a commuter college.
>>
I still can't believe Willis has spent the better part of 20 years, 30 years really, just being mad at his parents and his church group, year after year, decade after decade. Shouldn't he have gotten over it and moved on, by now?
>>
>>151661830
You'd think that, wouldn't you?
>>
>>151660175
Like >>151660676 said Ryan and Toedad/Blaine were two separate arcs. Neither one had an epilogue as such. Ryan was put in the hospital and his family is suing Amber's family, but that's happening offscreen and Amber isn't affected in any way. Blaine and Toedad are both dead and everyone who knew them is fine with it.
>>
>>151652978
Baffling that this guy thought he had any right to take potshots at Winkerbean.

I hope we're heading into the "Becky finally snaps and strangles Dorothy" arc.
>>
>>151661944
Oh no, the last panel gives it away. Becky is going to say that it's alright and then apologize to Dorothy for acting in a way that things awkward and hard for her and Joyce and then remonstrate herself for thinking she had a right to anyone. Her reasonable reasons for being hurt and upset will be swept under the rug (and thus implied to be wrong) and everything will be hunky dory. Because Willis's self-insert (female) and waifu are a perfect couple and anyone who criticizes them in-universe can only be a designated antagonist character. Readers criticizing them are stupid chud bigoted homophobic pieces of shit and can be ignored.
>>
>>151661944
the best ending would be Joyce and Dorothy doing their own suicide pact a la Billie and Ruth, but actually following through with it
>>
>>151653020
>>151653201
>Becky kidnaps Joyce to make her straight again
>>
>>151662015
Ultimately Becky has reasonable reasons for being hurt and upset but is also not entitled to have anyone in particular desire her sexually or romantically. All things considered she comes off as trying to accept what happened and move on while neither Dorothy nor Joyce is willing to drop it when they're around.
>>
>>151661869
By all accounts of of private conversations with people that are "friends" with Willis, he is a total dickwad asshole.
He THINKS he can be a charming jerk, but he is just an obnoxious rude twat.

No clue if he still suddenly passes out and shits/vomits on himself while under stress.
He hasn't talked about that in a while.
>>
We need to start AIing better strips of DoA

>>
>>151662482
Kill yourself.
>>
>>151662520
I'm already dead inside
>>
>>151662450
I kind of pity him, frankly. He's not terrible as an artist; his house style is very appealing. And I've seen him tell a decent joke when he wants to. If he wanted to he could be so much greater than he is. He could basically do what SuperDee has done and break into the mainstream.

But he just can't get over himself. He's trapped stewing in his own petty grievances and the things he's festered over since his childhood. It's depressing.
>>
What I don't understand is if we're supposed to view Joyce and Dorothy getting together as a good or bad thing.

It feels as if it's basically ruining the lives of everybody around them, but Joyce doesn't give a fuck.
>>
>>151662734
Good, you're supposed to see it as good.
>>
>>151662734
The only people negatively impacted are Joe and Walky, and Walky is an emotionally stunted manchild. While they are handling Becky poorly, Becky's feelings of rejection aren't on them nor are the issues Becky's having with Dina. On the flip side, a lot of people are being shitty to them for no reason because the fallout of the protest wasn't their fault in the slightest and they were forcibly outed. In summary:

>Joe
Treated like shit.
>Walky
Treated like shit but largely doesn't care.
>Becky
Reasonably upset but no one is obligated to be her girlfriend.
>Dina
Reasonably upset but needs a little empathy.
>Joyce
In the obnoxious honeymoon phase and needs to apologize to Joe but not doing anything out of the ordinary for her behavior or personality.
>Dorothy
Is shit, but other than fucking up Walky's love life hasn't done much wrong.
>>
>>151662825
Dorothy's the one who arguably set Joyce on this path by getting her to masturbate in public using washing machines (the ol' mormon vibrator) and shit like that. Given Joyce is pretty much a mental child Dorothy, intentionally or not, basically groomed her. She's the worst one of all.
>>
>>151662825
Joyce went from being a Christian bitch, to an agnostic bitch, and is now a gay bitch.
>>
>>151661711
Willis LIVES to ban people.
>>
>>151661830
well, his donators are like that too, so he keeps it up to keep the cashflow going.
>>
>>151662039
best ending would be the whole school exploding
>>
>>151661944
>Becky about to go Single White Female
>>
>>151650268
No.
But CAD and PA on the other hand.....
i had their early shit printed out and postedon my door, fuck i hate young me
