>>151650997Basically you have an old guard cadre of boomers and Xers who grew up with the taste of a very particular era producing feel good entertainment for themselves or very safe corporate slop for the over seas market. Now zeroing in on animation, they don’t care about animation very much so what they do is they allow people from inside the industry to make shows. That tends to be millennial women because millennial men probably found animation to be a very particular kind of environment. One which doesn’t really cater to them. So if animated shows aren’t directed by gen X men they’re directed by millennial women. The result if the kind of material that reflects these artists. Xer men produce material that reflects their fading vitality. Millennial women produce material that reflects their neuroses and therapy sessions. Neither of which appeals to young men, the virile and vital element of society. Smiling Friends, a show made by two Zennial men is the only exception to this rule. These men have the notable trait of having come from outside the industry. Hopefully its success encourages the people with the money to give more like it a chance. Also let me say that I’m not bashing shows directed by women the Amazing Digital Circus and Hazbin Hotel are laudable projects. However, there’s a crucial demographic not served by media right now. Final point, if you started making shows for zoomers you might not see return on your investment. They’re relentless pirates.
