The past two days I saw:>Mickey's Christmas CarolThe rewatch of this felt very...off. This is still good, and has a lot of charm. It's funny wherever there's humor. The Giant as the Present surprisingly works, and the feast representing generosity is one of my favorite parts of any Carol. But there's a lot of missed potential. It's simultaneously too slow AND too fast. Sometimes they stay on a moment (Marley's Arrival for example), sometimes they speedrun the thing (The whole Past scene especially). This really could've benefited from being a full special or even a straight up movie. Also some missed potential in the music. Oh, What a Merry Christmas Day could easily be a longer more major song, and there could've definitely been more numbers cause Kostal clearly knows his music. In the end it's a B+ for me that could've been an A+.>Sentimental Journeys: My Christmas AdventureVinny covered this last year on a Xmas themed Wheel of the Weird. This was ass, but it's HILARIOUS and entertaining ass. Back then some places did this thing where you could submit your kid's picture and have their face on a character in an animation. This particular one is an anomaly and a half. There's a cutaway gag 1/3 in. A CUTAWAY! And pop culture references but not in the Tom Ruegger way but in the Disaster/Superhero/Spartans movie way where shit just happens randomly. There's a baker doing a Patrick Warburton voice and Jack Frost looks nothing like him. It's awful...AND I LOVED IT! Give me kino or give me a trainwreck, no in-between.Sorry I wasn't here earlier, I've been busy with work so I haven't had much time to do proper analyzed viewings of stuff. That said, one of these works is a project with 4chan and the holiday season...

>>151656343I'm still pondering about one person I need to buy a gift for. We barely talk now that we don't work at the same place and live in different towns, last year I got an idea literally at the last moment because she wanted to borrow my basic bitch air fryer to help with Christmas meal prep - so she got a better one, and one that matched the colors in her kitchen. But now all I know is even with a gym membership she gained a few pounds ever since changing over to a desk job, and that her neighbor's crabapples fall into her yard sometimes.Asked her best friend and she doesn't know what to get her either.

December 11th is Independence Day in Burkina Faso, as well as the Anniversary of Statute of Westminster from 1831, granting overseas territories of the British Empire full autonomy (celebrated in Canada), and even Indiana Day in the US. But today I'll focus on another district in another country, because it's Pampanga Day in the Philippines. And that's because Filipinos LOVE Christmas. They love it so much, in fact, that they low-key start celebrating it all the way in September (and not just by stores starting to put out Christmas merch). It has to do with parols, local holiday lanterns and a major industry in aforementioned Pampanga, since September is when they start working on them. So big in fact is the industry, that the capital of the state, San Fernando, has a whole festival around them lasting the whole second half of December - Ligligan Parul.Another countdown to Christmas starts on December 16th, with the first of nine (early) morning masses happening daily as part of Simbang Gabi, a Filipino version of Las Posadas (it used to be a Spanish colony, after all). I've seen mention that attending all nine will bring good luck (kinda reminds me of gacha dailies). Bibingka and puto bumbong are some staple foods during this time. Then it's time for the midnight mass and Noche Buena feast for Christmas Eve: roast pig, Christmas ham, hamonado (meat marinated in pineapple juice), embutito meatloaf, Filipino variations on spaghetti and paella, chicken galantina, morcon (meatloaf), kare-kare (oxtail in peanut sauce) and a block of Edam cheese to tie it all together. And then there's the sweets: suman and tupig are two different rice cakes, and along them you'll find maja blanca, ube halaya, pianono, the famous flan, all washed down with hot choccy or ginger tea, among other things. All in all, I've seen a statement that on average, a Filipino household spends almost $600 on Christmas, and it's easy to see why.
>>151665050And then there's gift-giving: Godparents slip their godchildren some cash (it's called "aguinaldo") in red and blue enveloped made specifically for that occasion, and they also have their own version of Secret Santa, Monito-Monita.On Christmas Day it's customary to visit the extended family, and especially pay respect to family elders with a custom called págmamáno, putting the ender's hand on their brow. Then, on the 28th, Feast of the Innocents, kids get up to shenanigans - April Fools-like celebration typical for Latin counties.Another family gathering for New Year's Eve, with another feast - this time specifically avoiding chicken dishes, since their pecking and scratching brings to mind poor financial situation. Instead, since circles are believed to bring good luck with money, people wear polka dots and other such patterns, and put out a dozen types of round fruits, and scatter change on the ground. Then it's time for another feast on Three Kings Day (January 6th), and more celebration on Feast of Santo Niño (Holy Child), celebrating the first Christian Icon brought to the Philippines on the third Sunday of January. Some people celebrate all the way until Candlemas on February 2nd, especially since Our Lady of Candles is the Patron Saint of the Western Visayas region, bringing the longest Christmas celebrations in the world - long enough to need two posts - to a final close.

Kenya guess which country I'll be talking about today?December 12th is not just Constitution Day in Russia, or the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, but it's also Jamhuri Day in Kenya - "Jamhuri" meaning "republic" in Swahili. Really, it's "just" Independence Day, but the native name gives it a little extra oomph.Between the shared demographics, past colonizer and, you know, geographic location, Kenyans share a lot of common traditions with their neighbors in Tanzania >>151635946 - just like them, a lot of people leave the cities to spend the holidays with family in their home villages, creating congestions all over the country. In more rural areas, Christmas decorations are scarce, but whoever does put them up, uses ribbons, paper decorations, flowers and balloons. Instead of the trees typical for West (although I guess from Kenyan perspective, it would be "North"), cypress trees are used. Many attend Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, catching nativity plays, then party until morning, listening to carolers and dancing along them, then catch another church service in the morning, usually in new clothes. After sleeping it all off, it's time for the feast, centered around nyama choma, roasted meat - beef, chicken, lamb, goat, depends on the family. It usually comes with chapati flatbread, ugali maize porridge and rice (although nobody mentions if it's pilau). Drinking beer either bought or brewed (kids get soda).Speaking of kids, apparently they get time off school starting all the way in November. Which is great, means they have a lot of time to rehearse for the caroling and nativity plays. And finally - Baba Krimasi, their version of Santa, doesn't arrive on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, but rather on a camel, a bike, or sometimes a landrover. Since there's no snow.>>151678899I wish I had the time to do it yesterday, on Riddler Day, Mr. Double Dubs.

>>151680567*a Christmas special?
>>151680567there was a sort of movie-ish special called the care bears nutcracker suite. its chrtismas themed.heres a pic of the DVD cover of the movie. believe it was direct to DVD it wasnt a theatrical release
>>151680364That was pretty fun. Thanks, Anon!
>>151680593>Care Bears Nutcracker Suite was originally planned for a theatrical release,[11] but premiered on home video[12] and television[2] instead. The special debuted on the U.S. premium cable network The Disney Channel on December 10, 1988.[2] In Canada, it aired commercial-free on the Global network on December 25, as part of the regular Care Bears series.[3] The special was shown likewise on Malaysia's TV3 in December 1989.[13]>The North American VHS and Beta editions were released in December 1988[14] by Kids Klassics, a division of GoodTimes Entertainment.[12] This was one of the label's three Christmas titles for that year; the others were Christmas Comes to Pac-Land and A Flintstone Christmas.[15] The film was released on Region 2 DVD in France (on June 2, 2004), with Warner Vision's edition of Les Calinours au pays de casse-noisette.[16] On November 7, 2006, Lions Gate Home Entertainment released the special on DVD for the first time in North America, under the title Care Bears: The Nutcracker.[17]>On its original airing, Associated Press writer Kathryn Baker deemed the Nutcracker special "Strictly for those who prefer jelly beans to Christmas dinner."[18] In 1991, Chris Hicks of Utah's Deseret News gave it 1½ stars out of four, commenting that "Even my young children find this one too saccharine".[19] The special is mentioned in Craig Nelson's Bad TV: The Very Best of the Very Worst, in a section entitled "The Curse of the Top Five Annual Christmas Specials" (along with those based on The Smurfs and The Poky Little Puppy).[20]
>>151680617kek
>>151680617Yeah thought so. dont remember it ever being in theatres. besides the sort of shitty reviews it was a good take on the story of the nutcracker, be it care bears style. I actually have it on DVD.

>>151680746Quite the opposite, it's been around for a few decades now!https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/glurgeThe term does have its origins in the digital age, but it's actually some Web 1.0 shit - it was coined to describe those fake-ass sappy stories that your grandma would forward to you.

If you are a domestic Anon who dropped, and did the dropping thing on Monday December 1st or Monday, December 6th, someone grabbed you last night, go over to the companion site to check. If you are an anon from the South, from a state that has two recent-ish NCAA CFB championish caliber teams, and dropped on Saturday the 4th, you also have news. You also know where to go read the news.We are down to slightly more than ten but most are foreign you-know-whats.You four bongs might need to start picking each other off.Ditto the germans.

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAMWe’re traveling across the world just like ol’ St. Nick tonight, for a showcase of Christmas specials and movies from around the world. First, from Canada, the story of a man who seeks the best star to top his Christmas tree, even if it means getting one from space. Next, a Swedish take on Robin Hood, where a boy steals the Christmas gifts of the rich to give to the poor.Tonight’s first movie, from the UK, features Sandy Claws himself, discovering a long-lost letter from none other than the Queen of Hearts. Santa takes a new route through Wonderland, only to discover that the snubbed Queen now hates the holidays and wants his head to roll, in THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS IN WONDERLAND.Next, after 11 years, the Chilean television classic returns, as Tulio, Bodoque, Juanin and the rest are horrified to discover that their city is being skipped for Christmas. While Bodoque journeys to the North Pole to convince Santa otherwise, the rest must also work to save the day with a brand-new Christmas pageant. It’s 31 MINUTOS: CALUROSA NAVIDAD!In our late show, Australian besties Rachel and Sarah set out on their Christmas pub crawl, and in search of Santa himself. Finally, a curious, space-faring Snowman arrives on Earth, becoming the newest nuisance to pester Ataru Moroboshi and his clingy wannabe-girlfriend, Lum.Also we're starting the stream with the new Digital Circus episode because cytube hates Youtube Premieres.Stream Link: cy(delete this part)tu(DOT)be(slash)r(slash)SkeletalStreamer

>>151687393tbf we've had a shitload of Disney storytimes in these threads, so having something to break it up isn't the worst idea

>>151687444Trips of canonical power set

I do hope all of the regulars are doing well. I'm trying. Important thing is most of my Christmas shopping is nearly done. Then the real trial begins.>>151663077A baking contest? >>151688380>it's not like people can just storytime whole graphic novels anymoreWanna bet?
>>15168675420 minutes until Wonderland!
>>151688717>A baking contest?Baking went bye-bye.Boxes were very disappoint./co ok was Yellow Box's favorite thread ages agoUnless you can cosplay in Peter Parker and look really smart and sexy in said cosplay, while showing maximum skin, and your process pictures include plenty of that "parker luck" - baking and craft wasn't just entry pictures of the finished product, you were supposed to show process pictures so the boxes could trust that you didn't just swipe an image from EBAY or ETSY.Point was cheer creativity and baking can be very creative. Make some gingerbread in the shape of Hulk smashing another gingerbread man with black and gray frosting, in the shape of a tiny petty paranoid dude dressed as a flying rat, as they fly over gingerbread cookies frosted to look like Ego or Mogo - just use the depth perception filter, add a bunch of Snyder Kino effects like crucifixion, toss in the cheap license free Soundcloud piano cover of Hallelujah and you got yourself a /co cheer creative contest entry. But it's too late now, Snowey. You spent too much time playing in the snow.!!!Speaking of process, sticker dude, the rarely heard from Purple Box applauds Low Effort but right now you're in danger of being DQed for not showing your process. Pics or it didn't happen. Since you cannot show pics, you somehow need to show your process. How will anyone besides Purple Box believe you didn't just swipe a picture off ETSY or EBAY. You have 32 more hours to ponder this.I mean, what would Bea Arthur think?>>151681865>I met the deadline or not so so gladDeadline is still 32 hours away, EST.You even still have time to do erotic fan art for your story. Or non-erotic fan art.Green Box is feeling very asexual today even if Yellow Box keeps screaming "DEI" at it. Not sure Yellow Box understands that DEI isn't the same as DIE DIE DIE.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand I'm done for now. See you in the next thread, kiddos.
