What are the best comic book covers?
>>151664346
I love Tradd Moore
>>151664411I love Venom
>>151664346>dante must die mode:only covers after 2011
>>151664346I would have this framed, and hanging in the living room.
>>151664346This one is a striking one.
I think it is cool
Jae Lee was a god in 2010-2012.
>>151664411You dog bastard, I curse your mother, I was going to post Tradd Moore.
>>151664346>>151664411>>151672055>>151673942Why are all of Venom's covers so cool
>>151667146This one's great.
>>151664411I love how he's riffing on the 90's animated look having the orange/blue highlights, but doing it properly.
>>151667245Most Hobgoblin covers are kino.
This iconic cover has been spoof, parodied, and homage. And I love it.
>>151671746That's Sorrentino tracing a photo like always, not Jae Lee
>>151664346I luv it
What was the first cover to do the "villain reflected in the eyes/sunglasses trope? Maybe not the best but should get mention.
>>151676199pic unrelated>>151676263Isn't this a riff on the Justice League of America cover?
>>151674855That one was pretty cool, oldschool Frank Miller-ish.
>>151664346The ol' Inferno story arc in Manhattan had some pretty cool covers, Daredevil in particular. I think (((Marvel))) still had a touch of that 80s magic back then.>inb4 giwtwm
>>151679415This is another cool cover from those days.Which reminds me: Did Anglo/Burger prints always have such shitty colouring? I noticed this when reading scanned Hellraiser/Alan Moore's Swamp Thing issues years back and they were looking like kiddy's first crayon book, compared to my old Euro translations that had much better colour gradients, contrast and most primarily inking and darkness. I.e. stuff that's necessary for horror comics, something that Inferno in Manhattan had a lot of.
>>151668529>>151668542
>>151679114This one is my jam
>>151664346If we're spamming Spideyman cover, this one was kinda iconic.
I have the text-less version of this cover as my phone background.
Quite like this one.
>>151681012Yeah I feel ya. Old school stuff just hits different these days
>>151682531Love his art, always have. He could feel real gritty and his work was grounded. 10/10 artist at times and picrel is just a glorious example. Sorry for sounding off, carry on comrades
>>151684624I love the colors
>>151664346theres a lot of ones i like for ironman like issue 96, 178 or 250 but i think i will choose the epilogue issue of armor wars
>>151664394That was so jarring to see for the first time
>>151674091Because yes. Not even a big fan of the Kubert boys but I had to pick up that Spirits issue back in the day. Kind of gets me how almost everyone adds an interesting take on Venom, but Spiderman is so hit and miss, imo. >>151679460Opposite for me, Ville. Never been a fan of how most colorists use gradients then or now. Guys like Paul Mounts could be hit or miss for me even within single issues like Deathlok and Legion of Night mini's. If I remember right, the softer less defined black ink had to due with the cheaper paper and the printing process. Not sure about DC, but Marvel finished changing all the $1 titles to a "better" paper in 92(?), which also coincided with those titles going up $0.25. The $1.50 & $1.75 titles already had more brighter, expensive paper. The line work and text was better defined on those titles. That said, I found the works of folks like Glynis Oliver and Steve Buccellato to be magical on the cheaper paper, warts and all, like the aforementioned less crisp blacks and even with occasional printing fuck ups like adds with heavy blacks leaving slight mirror impressions on facing pages. Direct market, oddly enough, was printed after newsstand versions and had a higher chance of poorer quality due to the wear on the plates. Kudos to the anon(s) who remind everyone about Erik Larsen's comment concerning the sailed ship for cheaper paper coming back. Wish it was otherwise and I know some of you highly disagree. All good so long as we keep alive our love of comics. Love these threads
>>151664394>>151692145I can't wait to have a copy of the reprint in a week or two.
>>151688906Such a shame we'll never get an ending.
>>151692550Yeah, it really felt like a Global Frequency sequel-in-spirit/offshoot. One of the cooler comics in the past decade.Another recommendation somewhat in the same vein is Nowhere Men. It had sort of neat and simple covers, somewhat in the same style as Alone (another favorite)
>>151664346the early series of the Gideon Falls covers were absolute kino
>>151664346Some kino covers here
>>151692510If you're gonna post that cover then you might as well follow it with pic rel. Though my fav Venom cover is Lethal Protector 1 and my fav with Spidey there as well is either Lethal Protector 6 or ASM 375.
>>151689173that one is great
>>151689173That's a really great issue, it emphasizes that Tony's ultimate antagonist is his own self-loathing, something the MCU glossed over and modern Marvel Comics have seem to have forgotten.
Posted
I’ve always really liked this one, with Hobgoblin mentioned the one by JR JR where Spidey is locked in battle with him was really something.
>>151695251Iconic
>>151664346Unironically a great series and probably peak Luna bros, from when the sane brother managed to keep the Konnichiwa Dude one in check. The cover is both aesthetically solid and rousing curiosity, as well as being tragically foreshadowing.
>>151664346These are
>>151674221>even the little box in the top-left corner gets fucked upPure kino
>>151681485silver age stuff is kino
>>151698855An entire thread or multiple threads could be made of DC's horror cover output with The Witching Hour, House of Secrets, House of Mystery, etc.Marvel has several lesser known horror titles as well.
>>151699064Also Nick Cardy is forever up there with Neal Adams and Jim Steranko.
I need to read this series. Has a lot of good covers. Also it is a crime there isn't some website with all this cover art scanned at a high resolution.
>>151700596That brief time Superman and Batman comics had that typography/font and logos looking like that was so good...
>>151684624
DC has probably had the most consistent eras of kino covers
Would you live in the Joker house?
Ditko loved his grotesque, laughing faces. Maybe from his time reading Batman and studying under Jerry Robinson.
This witch's face is the definition of what I'd call a woman looking cute while they are angry.
>>151701130
Utter beauty in cover art.
>>151700880
My eye has been poked out... How that happened?I think you can hazard a guess...
This man says GL 200 is a VERY special issue. I'm not sure Bats agrees with that...
I'm pretty sure Wolfman just stole this for Spidey's big wheel villain.
Clea...
>>151701606
>>151701669
>>151701697
>>151681037Even though the main cover is the main one, the silver and black will always remain more iconic and kino in my eyes.
>>151681215Ok Jimmy...Jokes aside, pic rel is a favorite of mine.
>>151694416You're going to hate me. 346 was my first issue of Amazing which still stands the test of time. As a young teen I felt Larsen and several others, even the very influential John Byrne, never reached their full potential. I love Next Men but I wish Burnie had focused on one book at a time. Same critique for Bags. Killer cover for the first issue of Lethal but not impressed by the interiors. Ron Lim took over or am I confusing that with Infinity Gauntlet? Not an oversite with 347 on my part. Great cover concept but Larsen didn't always take it over the finish line for me. Wish he had refined his anatomy a bit or leaned into a more cartoony style. Huge fan of Colletta despite what the comic fandom thinks.
>>151701924Yeah the interiors of Lethal Protector have a bad inker or colorist or maybe Bagley didn't feel like drawing clean lines for faces cause I remember the interiors having unclear faces and stuff blurring together. Larsen isn't my favorite but the kino images he did draw, were up there. Sometimes his posing and anatomy as well as his sameface issues alongside Bagley do get annoying. It's just 90's Bagley as he got better inks and colors were phenomenal. Yeah Ron Lim had to fill in the last 3 issues for Lethal Protector and I think Infinity Gauntlet as well. Ron looked good back then. Too bad about now. Here's a good modern Bagley. Man still has it when it doesn't come to faces.
>>151702020Ah fuck I realized that isn't Bagley. Nevermind. But it sure did look like it from the thumbnail.
>>151702055
>>151702074I wonder what is the best bullseye cover...
>>151702139GOAT Avengers
I'm hesitant to believe that but I can see it. I need to read the runs before I could say that. Especially the 70's since that seems like an important era where the Avengers were at their most interesting with Englehart bringing in Beast and fleshing out Wanda and Vision.
>>151702291
>>151702305
>>151702318
>>151702291Engleheart and Stern were also very strong contenders. And yeah, Beast was great addition to the team. Avengers was a very strong book up till the 90s or so.
>>151702341
>>151702361
>>151702384
>>151702403
>>151702422
>>151702439Just found some cool Iron Man ones in addition to the one I just posted which I have known about since it mirrors that Dr. Doom.
>>151702459
>>151702484This armor is like if Samus gave Tony some pointers. Might just be the artist drawing an armor I have seen before in a weird way.
This is THE Venom/Carnage cover. Nothing else compares.
>>151702673
>>151702691
>>151702716
>>151701645
>>151702786
>>151702806
>>151702840I have yet to read Air Boy. The covers do look cool though.
Wally Wood...Apt name...
>>151702974I challenge you anon...To ask me about Go-Man and Bill Widener. How one series deserved so many more issues...
>>151702986
>>151702874Fuck that was actually Dave Stevens who drew that. Pic rel is Wally Wood.
>>151664346It's so interesting how deformed Venom's design got over time
You would think people would reference pic rel more. Seems like a no-brainer cover.
>>151667010I think found one. Story probably sucks but this cover is good.
>>151703108Yeah, I much prefer the scaled back venom over the slack jawed behemoth
>>151703329
>>151664394
>>151703467
>>151703561Ok that is it for me. I just posted what I felt like posting.
>>151664346It wouldn't surprise me if /co/'s gotten too cool for The Killing Joke but its cover was excellent, iconic and decades ahead of its time in regards of the memefied popularity of the Joker.
Based thread. Do you guys like Steranko? Sorry for the piss poor pic. I could not find a better one
>>151664346This lives rent-free in my head, and I first saw it 34 years ago.
>>151705522>Do you guys like Steranko?Yes
>>151705219For what reason did you post that instead of the OG?>>151705522Even if Steranko might have embellished some of his stories, I still like his art, history of comics, and general work that I can't help but find the guy based.
>>151707053>instead of the OGWhy would I post 300x200 WebPs from wikis?
>>151707185You are too narrow minded and lacking in effort. I meant the first printing which has kino fonts and colors. Also who said they have to be from wikis or databases just because some of the other images in this thread are. I just found pic rel from Ebay and I easily cropped out the white background around it. Get on my level fag.
>>151707381Check out the fag expert

>>151664394Such a perfect cover.
Sting Ray is cool
>>151707690>posts less than one minute apart>"""samefagging"""The absolute state of thirdie shitposters...
>>151702361hulk ones are the best ones.
Nice covers
>>151694416I like Larsen Spider-Man more than McFarlane. Yeah, I said it.
More bad than good covers posted.
Hoping Gunn uses this for live action
>>151670607spiderman was barely involved in that entire arc. some people were just there to fill the spreads of everyone assembled together.
>>151682172shame they turned lobo into such a millennial faggot in new 52. then again, they did that to a lot of people.
>>151716554I dare this anon to create their own thread.
>>151711431nice to see a modern one.
Covers!
>>151679460>>151692510Hot take, I think the Daredevil cover should have a gradient colored background while foreground is in flat colors
>>151716554Nah
I saw a t shirt of this, also glow in the dark, about 20 years ago on sale at Walmart for like 15 bucks. I couldn't get it at the time so I thought I'd come back next week after getting paid and get one. Nope. They were all sold out and I never saw another which was disheartening to say the least
>>151702422love this one.
