But the party liked the character so much they started genuinely befriending him and RPing inviting him to tea and shit, and when his treason was exposed (another ~third of a campaign later) the party just instantly forgave him for starting a war that had killed tens of thousands of people, so instead of the intended antagonist role the DM pivoted into more of a sympathetic/misguided turn for the character. Here in the show they can lean harder into that arc for the character by showing us bits the players couldn’t have been privy to, like Essek and his mom’s illness or realizing his mistake in trusting Trent.
