I'm curious to learn more about cartoon fandoms that existed in the early days of the internet, pre-2000 more or lessI've heard about the Tiny Toon fandom in particular and how batshit insane some of the early Usenet sites were back in the day, but did any other shows back in the 90's have a fanbase as crazy as they were?
>>151719590If this Usenet posting guide is anything to go by, we should all be blaming Shirley. She was the one posting everything on behalf of everyone.
>>151719590IIRC weren't a bunch of Usenet posts made publicly searchable a few years ago?
>>151719590Green Lantern fans made an actual hate group designed to harass and threaten a writer.
>>151720681Weirdly comfy image
>>151721982As in a social media group or a real group that would hold in-person meetings and go to the writer’s house?>>151722710It hails from the ancient year of 1991.https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/academic/computer-science/virtual-reality/general/images/gif/
>>151723878HEAT was a proto-social media group, yeah. They'd write angry letters and lash out. Before them, there were two people that hated Donna Troy and would constantly write in to DC begging for her to be killed off. One of them later came clean on her schizoranting blog (LC Douglass/tamaranorbust) and admitted it was because she hated Marv Wolfman that much.
>>151719590This is way better as an insulting caricature than wojaks
>>151724168That art required effort. Wojaks don’t.
>>151724103Was there a group or just a more substantial number of intense letters that came in as death threats against Mark Waid and Dan Vado when they killed Ice? Also it is weird it isn't mentioned on his Wikipedia page considering it led to Eltingville while on the Eltingville page, it only lists Dan Vado who Dorkin mentioned while in the issues themselves it says Waid was also a co-plotter. I haven't read that run but was Vado like the editor or more involved in it than Waid?
>>151719590That shit is common?? Enough that people were complaining about random spergs screeching that their idea was stolen by artists they never met or interacted with before back in 1990?
>>151719590I’ve heard some wild stories about the Daria fandom
>>151724103I mean, he is a poor man's Clairmont and a broke man's Levitz.
>>151725632The Internet was in its infancy, things just weren't as documented as they are today. It was a lot easier for someone to make these claims.
>>151719590was this a specific guy? i know some of the caricatures are based on real people from furry conventions
