So I am writing a fanfic of an avatar, but I am stuck on one question. Let's say there's an avatar, and it's found out he's the one and he is trained in an elite military academy. However, he's been training only for about a month. Would he be able to beat a competent bender who has been training for 5 years? Even if the avatar has control over the 4 elements, like in my story, the chances are low, probably 6 out of 10 times, the bender would win, maybe even 7 out of ten right? I know this question is autistic, but so is this website, so I thought I could ask here.
>>151724461>However, he's been training only for about a month. Would he be able to beat a competent bender who has been training for 5 years? No. Even as the Avatar, they'd still be a beginner. Yes, because of their past lives they have an immensely higher innate proficiency that enables them to learn faster, but it still takes time, discipline and instruction. It'd probably take an Avatar a year to be as competent as someone who has been studying/training for 5 or so years.
>>151724461I dunno, depends on the characters and the story you're going for. Like, Katara was never going to beat the old waterbending master guy she fights in season 1, but it's still a pretty good episode imo. Same with Aang and Bumi in the Omashu ep.Even if your guy starts losing, he's the avatar. just have him pull some Avatar state bullshit if the plot really demands that he win.clear a few things up for us tho, king>how old is your Avatar?>how does he have control over the 4 elements if he's only just started training?
>>151724461best case scenario is the trained worrier would be fighting against someone comparable to 4 novices of differing elements. that's assuming the avatar has enough training in the other elements to do more than just fling it.there is also the fact that we haven't touched on actual fight training. being able to control the elements is one thing. its a whole other beast to effectively use it in combat.
>>151724516What about Korra though, she was mostly a toddler when she had control over 3. In my story I was thinking of something like that, except that there was only 1 month of formal martial training at this point and the age of this avatar would be 14 years old. Still too off?
>>151724661Korra was written by retarded yard apes. Be better than Korra.
>>151724620>clear a few things up for us tho, king>>how old is your Avatar?14 years old>how does he have control over the 4 elements if he's only just started training?I was thinking of the idea that he had a similar 'natural alignment' like Korra did in her show, so she was able to control the elements even as a small child, but only until now had received military training. The reason why he did not start was because of parents that refused to let him be 'discovered' by the authorities, basically fearing the weight of being the avatar would be too much, and the idea of not wanting to lose him to authorities wanting him to train every day.Eventually he's found out and they take him, to the Earth Kingdom's palace and this is where I got stuck, on deciding how his powers would stand, vs a trained bender.
>Would [Avatar with only a month of combat training] be able to beat a competent bender who has been training for 5 years? No. The Bender would win almost every time. Probably 9 out of 10 times with most of those being very easy one-sided roflstomp wins.Unless Avatar State happens, which gives the Avatar access to all previous lives' skill and experience. Then Avatar wins instantly.
