The days grow colder, the nights grow longer. That means /co/ Christmas cheer is coming to town. Grab some cocoa, turn on the Christmas music, get comfy, and hang out with some /co/mrades as we share stories and get into the holiday spirit.Make merry, have a joyfultime, share some stories, read some storytimes!Pastebins: https://pastebin.com/yYV0AZ8phttps://pastebin.com/h3K9W6sTOld thread: >>151692515
December 15th is Bill of Rights Day in the United States, the anniversary of ratifying the, well, Bill of Rights. Meanwhile people of Alderney, one of the Channel Islands, celebrate Homecoming Day - when the residents went back to the island after World War II.More importantly (at least for my purposes), December 15th is also Koninkrijksdag in the Netherlands: Kingdom Day. Commemoration of signing of the Charter of the Kingdom of Netherlands - the newest event on the list, having happened in 1954, which defined the new relationship between the "Mainland" and its overseas territories. As for Christmas traditions, this is another part of the world when it starts early - on the Saturday after St. Martin's Day (November 11th - hey look, quads!) to be exact. On that day Sinterklaas arrives from Madrid on his steamboat alongside Zwarte Piet. In some households, he leaves little gifts for the kiddies every Saturday after that, but the big night when he visits every Dutch house - on his horse, obviously - is December 5th, Saint Nick's Eve, or Sinterklaasavond - while people party, sometimes indulging in a "treasure hunt", children leave hay and carrots in their shoes for the horse, expecting gifts in return - although the naughty ones might get put in a bag and takes to Spain to work on next year's gifts instead. Afterwards, on December 6th, Sinterklaas gets back on his steamboat and leaves.Actual Christmas is much more mellow and about spending time with family. Usually a Gourmetten is set up - a tabletop stove on which multiple people can prep a meal for themselves. There's also Kerststol, a sweet bread filled with fruit, nuts and a marzipan center. Some opt for a Rijsttafel instead - kind of a smorgasbord of South East Asian dishes (Sumatra, to be specific).Sometimes, Kerstman can visit with more presents - a completely separate entity from Sinterklaas. And after the Holidays, many Dutch will throw their Christmas Trees onto a bonfire and burn them.
Happy Holidays /co/
Once again it's Sabrina time!Except not really it's actually Amber time. Those around for Spooktober might remember her

So how was everyone's start into the new week? Luckily enough, I'm feeling great again after feeling like shit yesterday and the day before. Work is boring as hell because during Christmas season, it's either running in second gear or a full-on sprint

Daily dose of classic Christmas cartoons Vol. 18Today we check in again on everybody's favorite sailorhttps://archive.org/details/popeye-the-sailor-mister-and-mistletoe-1955This next one is actually from the 60s TV cartoon. It's kinda weird how the Sea Hag never came up in the theatrical cartoons, despite being a pretty important character in the comics.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuF7C01fUI0

Why was Annabelle giving Billy this look?
>>151737338>one of them works part-time at a board games cafe and she was more than willing to spill the teaI'll admit, I'm curious as to what kind of t can be spilled at a place like that
>>151737837Long story short, she's the only person there who actually knows what they're doing. The people in charge seemed to genuinely want to run a board games cafe but they aren't huge boardgamers so they hired five people to teach games.Four have quit already, because it turns out that the people in charge really just want to run a nerd merch shop that sells fucking Labubus and Funko Pops and anime statues, with a cafe in there somewhere. Also, they rely almost entirely on AI to do all the thinking for them, from how to display board games to the fucking employment contracts.
>>151738083>Also, they rely almost entirely on AI to do all the thinking for them, from how to display board games to the fucking employment contracts.Fucking hell... I just assumed that maybe some of the waitresses were bitchy to each other, but this is absurd
>>151738708Yeah, the real kicker is that my friend has a law degree (she's only doing this because of The Economy) so she knows exactly how fucked up what they're asking of her - ten days vacation, not allowed to discuss salaries with coworkers, all kinds of illegal shit
>>151738791>not allowed to discuss salaries with coworkersHow is that even enforcable?
>>151738853It's not, the owners just assume everyone who works for them will be too stupid to know/cowed by authority
I havent had the chance to post a lot in the threads this year, but I have a storytime that I love and not many post in these threads, so hopefully Im not repeating
>>151738936I had the chance this year to finally read Mystery teather
>>151738957And while it was wonderful to see Wesley done the suit, fight the NY undeground and have some parties at times

>>151739080I didn’t know he existed until that episode of Smallville.
>>151738853Generally, this is enforceable by the employees themselves. Someone who feels they are being slighted will complain to management, management thus knows salaries are being discussed. If there are unions involved or other labor code violations, it actually escalates higher and outside the workplaceSo yes, surprisingly, it does get 'enforced.'However, in a small business, especially if 4/5th of all employees have quit, or there's that much churn, it's almost mostly a non-starter of an issue.
December 16th is the start of Las Posadas in the Latin world and Simbang Gabi in the Philippines - in other words, T minus nine days until Christmas. In nationl day news, it's Victory Day in India and - especially - Bangladesh, celebrating the end of Bangladesh Independence War against Pakistan - and on the very same day of the very same year (1971) United Kingdom withdrew from Bahrain, making it their National Day. And twenty years later Kazakhstan broke off from the crumbling Soviet Union, so they celebrate their Independence Day.And in South Africa, it's the Day of Reconciliation, celebrating the end of Apartheid and replacing the old Day of the Vow.Since the country is way down in the south hemisphere, Christmas actually happens during their summer, which colors their customs. People will visit the beach, of take part in some sort of sportsball match (soccer, rugby, cricket - surprisingly English-coded for a former Dutch colony). And the day can't be complete without a braai - the Afrikaner word for barbecue.Although I believe that's separate from a traditional Christmas feast, since I can't really imagine BBQ'ing a whole turkey or a slab of glazed gammon. Add to it pilau rice, pap - maize porridge - and roast potatoes with biltong, but save fro room for some desserts: keoksisters, mince pies, malva pudding or Christmas trifle.Apparently, they also go hard on decorating their houses for the Holiday - both with lights, tinsel and the like, as well as flowers like poinsettias and proteas. And at night, it's not unusual for people to gather in parks, candles in hand, to sing Carols by Candlelight.
