Animal Farm is now a kids movie starring Seth Rogan.

We'll never get a faithful adaptation ever again.

>Seth Rogan as Pig Stalin
That sounds like a Family Guy cutaway joke
>>
Looks pretty faithful to me.
Animal Farm is about how a revolution is betrayed by fascists who are obsessed with western luxuries. It's exactly what happened to British and French communist parties, which is who George Orwell was writing about.
Orwell's publisher frequently mischaracterized his works in order to avoid being banned in MacCarthy era US. Like how 1984 is actually about the BBC during WW2 being forced to broadcast anti-USSR propaganda which then switched to anti-German propaganda the minute Hitler invaded Poland, and then back to anti-USSR propaganda the minute the war ended. None of his books are about the Soviet Union, Orwell admired the USSR and called Stalin the greatest man who ever lived. He even fought alongside Russian communist freedom fighters in the Spanish Civil War, another revolution crushed by western fascists.

Not worth remembering.

This is just one or these movies but because this is *specifically* based on Animal Farm, a critique of Marxism. We've lost the plot, now these euromutts are fucking with old books that isn't meant to be capitalized in the first place.

The farmers were essentially villainous in the book but hardly the ultimate villains.
While it can be argued that the book is about Ideological Authoritarianism in general, Napoleons rise mirrors Joseph Stalins too closely to not bring Communism as practiced in the early 20th century to mind.
People like to bring up Orwell fighting for the Republicans in Spain but fail to mention he was pretty thoroughly disgusted with them by the time he left.

The Pigs start by raiding internal resources pretty early on, namely milk and apples.
Also Napoleons purge is way before they start "importing luxury goods".
The Pigs, with the possible exception of Old Major, are pretty clearly hypocrites from the start, even Snowball.

The animal models look generic as fuck too, it’s your standard dreamworksified/pixarfied character models we’ve seen a million time before, if they wanted to appeal to more mature audiences they should’ve used this opportunity to stylize it, make it more unique, like visually dark and gritty like the original film.

>The farmers were essentially villainous in the book but hardly the ultimate villains.
They are the ultimate villains just as the pigs are. The point of the book is that all the animals accomplish is a change in masters.
>People like to bring up Orwell fighting for the Republicans in Spain but fail to mention he was pretty thoroughly disgusted with them by the time he left.
Orwell explained the premise of the fucking book himself.

>Of course I intended it primarily as a satire on the Russian revolution. But I did mean it to have a wider application in so much that I meant that that kind of revolution (violent conspiratorial revolution, led by unconsciously power-hungry people) can only lead to a change of masters. I meant the moral to be that revolutions only effect a radical improvement when the masses are alert and know how to chuck out their leaders as soon as the latter have done their job. The turning-point of the story was supposed to be when the pigs kept the milk and apples for themselves (Kronstadt.3) If the other animals had had the sense to put their foot down then, it would have been all right. If people think I am defending the status quo, that is, I think, because they have grown pessimistic and assume that there is no alternative except dictatorship or laissez-faire capitalism. In the case of Trotskyists, there is the added complication that they feel responsible for events in the USSR up to about 1926 and have to assume that a sudden degeneration took place about that date. Whereas I think the whole process was foreseeable—and was foreseen by a few people, eg. Bertrand Russell—from the very nature of the Bolshevik party. What I was trying to say was, ‘You can’t have a revolution unless you make it for yourself; there is no such thing as a benevolent dictat[or]ship.’

The CIA version of Animal Farm has people brain poisoned as to what the actual message was.

Remember, and I say this from a neutral standpoint, Capitalism exists to devour and transform everything into more of itself, for better or worse. Communism would simply destroy things it didn't like, but Capitalism will devour it and turn that thing into an inversion of itself, even things that exist to praise it as an alternative to Communism, everything gets crushed, mashed, flattened out like a dough roller, until everything has the same approximate consistency of that "Sing" movie. No substance, no commentary, no potentially dangerous ideas, no actual morals. Even things like white supremacy will be digested and made more palatable to the taste of Capitalism's consumerist ideology. And sometimes, that's fine! Hamburgers taste good! But it will turn every single steak into hamburger. It also turns every single cow patty into more hamburger. It recycles that guy's uneaten burger into more burger. Until the whole world is burger. A "Green Goo" scenario, if you will.

>>

the answer is to disconnect wealth and well-being. Make anything necessary to live be available to everyone, so that NOT having wealth doesn't mean you have to go hungry or homeless.

>>
>>151735121
You realize you are giving the state entire dominion over your life right? Anything the government supplies it can take away for any arbitrary reason.
>>
>>151735128
for one thing, I don't think amassing wealth is inherently virtuous, I think it's morally neutral. So if you're profiting off of other people's suffering, it becomes a malicious act, because there's no inherent virtue in amassing wealth to justify it. There's nothing wrong with making money, but if you had to, say, threaten someone with losing their medication to get them to sign a worse deal so you make a bunch more money, that's evil. Making money is less important than people being alive and safe.
>>
>>151735164
So what is virtuous about stealing other people's possessions?
>>
>>151735157
Yes, which is why you don't make it a social welfare program, like Food Stamps, you make it a universal thing like the police and fire departments. You don't make people have to sign up to get into a line to eventually get a housing voucher they can give to a capitalist who is holding housing hostage, you make a 911 style phone number you can call if you lose your access to stable housing, and it's available to everyone. This would also help to bring down housing costs by providing an actual alternative other than homelessness.
>>
>>151735182
That's an absolutely nonsensical bad-faith question, framed so as to automatically make your perspective seem "obvious" and any alternative be automatically painted as "theft". Make a better argument if you actually want an answer, and if you don't actually want an answer don't ask the question.

>>
>>151735264
they absolutely can, but the government isn't some shadowy cosmic entity, it's a bunch of human beings. Making something a universal right makes it *much* harder to end. Case in point, the decades-long conservative effort to dismantle social security, which is so difficult because the aging voter base doesn't want to lose their benefits. If those same old people never had to worry about losing their homes and become homeless, they would vote against any politician who tried to take it away from them. "A rising tide raises all ships" and "personal is not the same as important" are two important and eternal moral cornerstones that can guide you in your considerations on these matters.

Snowball represents Lenin and the intellectual/professorial leaders of the movement that were pushed out by Stalin (Napoleon)

All of the characters in the book are very simple and one-dimensional archetypes of different players and classes in the Soviet revolution

Yes, he did, due to a combination of local officials being too afraid to report that their peasantry needed help leading to help not getting sent to those in need and even food that could have helped prevent famine being exported while people starved, severe weather destroying crop yields, that bullshit with the sparrows, and Lysenkoism.

The moral of the story being anti-science bullshit is bad, the environment should be protected, and authoritarian regimes that leave people too afraid to report failure are bad actually.

>>
>>151735102
>Why do you think the solution to saving the worker from those that have accumulated all the wealth is to accumulate all the wealth to the state?
First of all, the idea that The State™ should not have any involvement in the economy is extremely arbitrary. Singapore is one of the most advanced countries in the world, and their economic policy is heavily state-driven, for example. Also, no actual leftist thinks, say, the US government as it currently exists should be planning any economies; no ideology will save you from bureaucratic rot, not even ones that want to eliminate the government entirely (since they're retarded).
Some commies still want an old fashioned Soviet bureaucratic hell, but not all of them. Modern tech eliminates much of the practical need for rigid central planning.

That said, none of this really matters until capitalism finally shits its last bed, and by the time that happens we will probably have better-developed post-capitalist theory.

Animal farm always sucked because the anti-Stalinist perspective it trys to convey is built on a false premise to begin with. It's a metaphor based on a false narative. The vast majority of evils that people associate with the Soviet Union actually came after Stalin when the elite body he was trying to supress finally took power with his death and a lot of his history came from Trotsky himself who was a literal contact of the SD that helped setup nationalist paramilitaries.

So having faith in any form of adaptation is a ludicrous notion, if anything Seth Rogan would elevate it.

>Orwell admired the USSR
No he fuckin didn't. This is literally Orwellian revisionism of History in the very guise he despised of. Commies are some of the most insidious freaks ever.
>the minute Hitler invaded Poland
Hey faggot, the USSR/Russia invaded Poland a week later and did joint operations before and leading up to the invasion with Hitler. Hitler and Stalin made pacts before the war started and both were committed to the full invasion of Europe. Before Hitler backstabbed USSR/Russia of Operation Barbarossa.

The only reason commies aren't lambasted over this was because of Cold War fuckery trying to hide their own atrocities like the Gulag Archipelago behind the Iron Curtain and the fact they teamed up with Hitler and ethnically cleansed the Polish with the help of the Nazis, and then carved said Poland in half.
Russia was NEVER good during it's commie phase leading up WW2 and beyond into modernity. They only slightly redeemed themselves when they fought back the Nazis, but that was moreso because Hitler was on Moscow's doorstep and the Allies dropped an absolute fuckload of munitions and resources so Russia could push them back. If the Allies didn't give them anything, Moscow and Russia would've fallen. AKA, the capitalists saved Russia's ass. Then, said Russia, invaded and annexed Crimea and now Ukraine, but somehow smooth brain psuedo-commies still hump after their dystopian fever dream of Marxism and Stalinism, despite NEVER working anywhere. Commies should be treated with as much disdain as the fascists were, if not more, to shame that entire shithole of an ideology back into Marx's deranged pauper economic religion of a graveyard.

Are you retarded? Animal Farm came out in 1945. It was never intended to show "the vast majority of evils that people associate with the Soviet Union." It does what it does very simply and very well.

>Food, shelter, medicine, water, electricity
People lost access to those every time communism was tried, dipshit.

>Making something a universal right makes it *much* harder to end.
Lol, LMAO even.
>but the government isn't some shadowy (~~~) entity
They all are, even the commies, once you realize the convergence of power and resources draws psychopaths and control freaks like moths to a flame, maybe your starry eyes for a mega-state will evaporate. It's why giving ultimate power to the state is always a bad bet. Especially disarming said populace, which Western Wokie-Liberal psuedo-Commies LOVE to push.
>"A rising tide raises all ships"
That's dependent on the fact that the ships are all in tip-top shape. Which, much like people, they aren't. People aren't ships. people use their resources differently from one another, and people's life situations vary wildly from one another as well. You can only auto-correct life, stupidity and incompetence on a universal state scale up to a point before you just go full on totalitarian and then the question becomes what is more important, safety or freedom. The Classical Liberal West already figured this out, it's somewhere in the middle with a capitalist economy and with a social safety net, and then comes the question of how encompassing the social safety net should be.

It's a good thing that you've mentioned modern Russia. Dissident rightists have swallowed the propaganda that it did a complete 180 since 1991, but essentially the USSR is a zombie empire, it's just that they're no longer dedicated to communist ideology.
