Without that singular event she likely would have never even thought of seeking out the forest spirit or becoming a green wizard, she’d just be a dryad living with her parents in the forest, hunting and happy.

And yeah, he’s probably clinically depressed, but in the episode where Magus brought Finn’s hat to life he demonstrated that thinking happy thoughts had a marked effect on his magic, specifically in that the objects he brought to life while happy were more much more well-adjusted then the ones he brought to life when he was wallowing in his misery. My point is that strong emotions are key to fueling a spell, which Maja the Sky Witch herself confirms, and for the people attracted to magic in the first place negative emotions are the strongest to manifest.For Huntress Wizard specifically I can see the loss of her parents and the effect her self-imposed isolation is having on her mental state is what fuels the sadness she needs to power her magic; well, that and the contract she’s made with the heart of the forest.

I can't help but feel there really is a quite good and compelling story in this season, but it's buried under the Aaa stuff. Take that out, and this season has the ingredients. Say it every thread, but I'll say it again. We should've just gone back to Ooo.

She gets to love and be in a relationship with Finn without complete commitment or being steady in the traditional sense because she’s afraid what would happen if they make it fully real, in that she lets him know exactly how much he means to her. She’s afraid of vulnerability and being soft because she feels her purpose would disappear and it would lead back to her being hurt again when he dies. The thing is that it’s inevitable and she’s already in too deep to turn back, considering what she did for him this season. Finn meanwhile I feel is alright with the relationship they have. He’s entertained the thought of settling down and being more with HW, but he has his own issues to deal with (Jake’s death). Unless HW pushes for more, Finn is comfortable and content with the way they are because he understands her reluctance and how their relationship works. That’s why I feel these last episodes really need to dive deep into HW’s mentality and goals for her future with Finn.

Huntress Wizard has no time to get back to Ooo and help save Finn before he's gone for good. Lack of time forces Fionna and HW to take drastic measures to try and salvage a bad situation: Fionna opts to contract with Hana to get help for the fundraiser concert, and HW kills the Cosmic Owl to protect Finn from a potentially prophetic dream.
