I want to be cursed into becoming a magical girl(This is western, and it’s a comic, it’s co)
>>151741828Holy shit, I haven't thought of this comic in AGES.
>>151741828Is it still updating?Have the two girls he leeched the red-thingy from died from old age? Also, has 4chan given up on stopping the bots (not that I am complaining that the captcha are easy, now, but we all know the bot invasion come with that)
>>151741846The author got into a copyright dispute with a company that apparently plagiarized the comic and killed it off as a result, and now mostly deals in genderbending dickgirl porn
>>151741937>The author got into a copyright dispute with a company that apparently plagiarized the comicWhat is it?And did she lost and lose the right to continue making Valkyrie Yuuki?
>>151741828Wasn't familiar with the comic, but from the looks of it I reckoned it was something from the 2000's. I'm not sure if I'd read it back then, but I gave it a bit of a read now.>>151741846Weird decision for the captcha, it doesn't really inspire much confidence against stopping bots at all. It's not like the numbers are even distorted or anything, they're just written plainly.>>151741937damn, a copyright dispute over a small comic like this is crazy.
>>151741828>>151741846The comic is dead, the website is 404. You can still find it on Internet Archive, at least.>>151741937I never knew this. What was the other company and product? I knew that Ever After High probably stopped to avoid such a copyright suit with Disney, but wasn't aware that SGVY had the same problem.
>>151741937So, you can't remember the comic that plagiarised hers, or was it never confirmed? If then, do you have any suspicion?>>151741846Oh, they have replaced the scrambled texts with IQ tests? Not sure it will stop the bots, but it might actually stop some posters.
>>151741828Its so fucking weird to me that western cartoons have done obvious pastiches of magic girls as a genre multiple times, but never once committed to the bit and actually made a magical girl show or even demonstrated that they understand why the genre actually works. This isn't a takedown of Yuuki itself, just a commentary on how well get stuff that is obviously a reference to Sailor Moon or whatever, but then within 30 seconds of the first episode immediately derail into millennial coffeeshop shit or whatever their subversion of the day is. Never once just.... doing the thing.
>>151743134>Oh, they have replaced the scrambled texts with IQ tests? Not sure it will stop the bots, but it might actually stop some posters.I was stopped for a bit before I realized that I needed to click the 'next' button to actually resolve the capcha, as I had originally assumed that was a sort of "give me a different one" button.
>>151743415>but never once committed to the bit and actually made a magical girl show or even demonstrated that they understand why the genre actually works. If you are looking for a western comic that does that, I'd recommend Sleepless Domain, even though it's on Hiatus, now. But at least it's free.https://www.sleeplessdomain.com/
>>151743446Interesting rec, but yeah thats why I said cartoons. The bar to entry for comics is much lower than animation, I'm sure there are a dozen different webcomic-tier western magical girl comics that play the concept straight. But I'm also sure that nobody knows about them.
>>151743415Lolirock plays the magical girl genre pretty straight. The main problem, I think, is that everybody is trying to subvert the genre or make their own "it's magical girl but..." type of show. Part of it is probably because they assume that everybody is already familiar with the magical girl genre, but it also means we don't get many shows of that genre in /co/ material. There's also W.I.T.C.H which is pretty strict magical girl, and Sleepless Domain which >>151743446 mentioned.
>>151743520>The main problem, I think, is that everybody is trying to subvert the genre or make their own "it's magical girl but..." type of show. Part of it is probably because they assume that everybody is already familiar with the magical girl genre, but it also means we don't get many shows of that genre in /co/ material.Yeah, which I think is a mistake because it means that for western audiences that are not weebs... do they even know enough about the genre to get the reference beyond the extremely surface level? This is 4chan, obviously everywhere here is going to recognize a madoka magica at a glance. But for normies, they probably are aware of sailor moon as a character design but not actually know anything about it, and thats as far as their knowledge of the genre gets.
>>151741828You are given a choice of two shows:Show A is about a boy who gets drafted to become a magical girl but some kind of cutsey magic spirit, and has to deal with all of the sparkly nonsense and frilly outfits and shit until the Evil Darkness is defeated and he/she can return to a normal life. Being a girl is embarrassing, but the magic powers like being able to fly are kinda cool.Show B is about a boy who gets drafted to become a magical girl but some kind of cutsey magic spirit, but she couldn't give less of a shit about the magic powers and approaches every badguy she fights like its a boxing match, punching them in the face directly and getting punched in the face back in return until somebody drops. She HAS big sparkle magic lasers, but never uses them no matter how much the mascot character begs her to. Which would you rather watch?
I liked this better when it was called Is This A Zombie?
>>151744028B
>>151744028I guess both? Either could be good, altho Show A feels like it's going to fall into a bunch of anime tropes and Show B is basically just "I Don’t Want To Be A Magical Girl" but with a trans lead.
>>151744028>>151744065>>151744066God damnit, I fucked up by copying the second line from the first. The intent was that A would be the only one where the MC started as a boy, and that B would be a girl from the start but who insists on brawling.
>>151743415We technically did get one this year. And it was praised as revolutionary and a breakthrough which could get it's own doomer post about how embarrassing that take is.
>>151741828If you want it then it's not a curse.>>151744028A
>>151744102I thought it was odd that the pronoun changed with Show B. But yeah, that's just Don't Want to be Magical Girl but expanded into a full show.
>>151744102Ah? A, then.
>>151744028Shut the fuck up cocksucker, those suck ass. Here's SHOW CShow C about a boy with a magical girl harem and he's the source of their magic. The girls power themselves up by having sex with him.
>>151745335Thats gayer than two rainbows fucking.
>>151745335That's just the plot of any Isekai Quartet hentai.
>>151741828christ i remember i beat my shit to this. the chapter where he starts rubbing one out got my 10 year old boner hardge
>>151745724I found Valkyrie Yuukie via metamorphose.org (for those who remember, do you know it's still active?), a website dedicated to Gender Transformation stuff with a very adult audience intended. how the fuck did you stumble upon Valkyrie Yuukie at 10 year old?
>>151745967pretty simple really because back then webcomics had link pages.and the chain went something likepenny arcade had a links pageand i would use the sites it linked to to link to other sites. Do this over and over again and eventually you get to the more groddy shit. I literally got from penny arcade to jack this way. I'm sure it was from lowroad or one of those comic networks. in fact i bet if i went to the links page there I get a blast from that past.fuck i remembered saturnlania (or was it satrunlania?)
>>151746077Aaah... Link pages and webrings. Those were the days...
>>151746077yep i'm lookingit was errant storyalso jesus christ i have been looking for strings of fate for 2 decades i thought it was a fever dream after a while wtf
>>151746167>no Misfile linkHuh.
>>151745335That's even worse. You have actual dogshit taste, you self-inserting faggot.
>>151746166back when having bookmarks mattered and i'm having another brainblasti had almost all my webcomics bookmarked on there. i wonder how its -of course its been dead for years>>151746203i've read so many fucking webcomics over the years including some real dog shit but not once have i tried to read misfile. is it worth the day it would take to read it?
>>151746167Errant Story... that takes me back.
>>151743415Most don’t understand the appeal, ironically. They think it’s embarrassing to be girly so have to make it ironic, when being girly while kicking ass is the damn point. MLP is the closest I’ve seen to one In spirit from the west, and they weren’t even aiming for that.
>>151746241No it's just the other genderbend webcomic I know of.
>>151746241>is it worth the day it would take to read it?NTA but no its awful. Its a supernatural genderswap story and "I saw Initial D and liked it" racing autism, but its somehow lesser than the sum of its parts. Basically nothing matters. The racing JUST fills time because it doesn't interact with the rest of the story outside of it being a thing that the MC likes to do. The genderswap is more relevant to the plot, but if you've ever read a genderswap story before in your life it has nothing special to recommend it. If you want to read it for the implied romance of the characters, you'll be disappointed. When the internet was young and TG options were like searching for diamonds, maybe it served a purpose. But now? Its just a relic. An old move you remember being on TV as a kid, but not good enough to reccommend to someone else watch today.
>>151746262>They think it’s embarrassing to be girly so have to make it ironic, when being girly while kicking ass is the damn pointPrecure understands this.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl2ck8I5spIAlso, if you go back and watch stuff like sailor moon, it becomes clear that the comedy is essential to the formula. A sailor moon that wasn't also funny wouldn't be worth watching.
This feels like a appropriate place to ask. I was making a teir list for ancient webcomics, am I missing anyone major?
