Now that the dust has settled, was it really that bad?
>>151750008Sure.
>>151750008>was it really that bad?It was worse.
Fucking retarded concept, Would've been WAY cooler if it was something like this, a huge monster machine with a big ass canon that had metal benders moving the wheels
>>151750008yes. why the fuck are you adding lasers in a show where people can magically shoot elements?
>>151750008Yeah, it's pretty damn lame
Avatar was often called western anime or anime inspired western animation, but then Kora misunderstood sentiment, wishing to recreate the success of the old show and decided to go full mecha anime.
>>151750091>>151750096>>151750175Nice opinion, did a youtuber give it to you?
>>151750008concept was fine, mecha were introduced two seasons ago, there was a giant-ass drill 80 years ago, and technology was moving quicklythe problem was making it a nimble evangelion with a slim design instead of a walking fortress that fits in with the dieselpunk look of the series
>>151750232No
>>151750008Yes. Not let me collect all the settled dust, and make you eat it.
>>151750008Should have made it look more like Metal Gear Rex instead of Jet Alone. Also Korra should have turned big and blue again like she did against Vaatu so now it’s a climatic battle of spiritualism vs technology, old vs new, etc.
>>151750008Kuvira humiliating Korra in 1v1 combat in front of everyone is one of the hottest ryona scenes ever. Kuvira suddenly having air bender genocide camps and giant robots at the end is one of the dumbest things ever.
>>151750008is this the mech thing from avatar? >>151750096what a fucking god awful movie, ive tried watching it twice but at least the designs where pretty cool.
>>151750008It was worse
>>151750008The show had good fight scenes and good character design(Korra is a literal 10), but everything else was trash.
>>151750687> Kuvira suddenly having air bender genocide campsIt’s just another case of the writers going “oh shit we made our villain too compelling and people are thinking maybe they got a point, quick turn them into Hitler!”Happened to Amon and Unalaq too.
>>151750232>YouTube invented the idea that this episode was shitLol, lmao. You should have fucking been here when it premiered. /co/ was fucking flabbergasted at how retarded it was.
>>151750851Every good idea they had ended up falling short and getting mismanaged. In retrospect they were really badly hampered by not knowing if they were going to get renewed for anther season or not. They kept having to tell entire hero journey's in one season and it always felt off and as a result when it looked like they were going to do something cool it fell on its face.
>>151750008The mech was fucking stupid. The whole spirit weapon/gun thing was fucking stupid. Introducing advancing tech into the Avatar world was ham-fisted and a bad idea (the big drill from atla was too). The series has a great magic-kung-fu thing going and should have leaned into that way more.
>>151750008Maybe the single worst thing in all of Avatar, and that's tough competition with S2 having the Wan backstory that fucks up everything AND a Spirit Kaiju fight with the "dark avatar"
Korra's fight scene choreography was so god damn good.
>>151750910There's this bizarre take that only youtubers can cause people to hate something as if people cannot form their own opinions on things.
>>151751066>youtuber makes a very specific claim about something>next day, people repeat his exact arguments even when they are non-sensical, as if it is facttheres this bizarre ignorance of the ability for talking heads on a screen to shape public opinion
>>151750289>nimble evangelionIn fact, it's the complete opposite. It's literally that robot that the competition created when they wanted to replace the Evas.the robot that the series indicates literally sucks and is ridiculous.I think it was called Jet Alone
>>151750091lol okay drama queen
>>151750654>Should have made it look more like Metal Gear Rex instead of Jet Alone.Based>Also Korra should have turned big and blue again like she did against Vaatu so now it’s a climatic battle of spiritualism vs technology, old vs new, etc.Cringe
>>151751039>Wan backstory that fucks up everything Nope
>>151751014Korra is the biggest jobber lead character in animation history
>>151752024>the robot that the series indicates literally sucks and is ridiculous.Did you actually watch the episode? NERV had to sabotage Jet Alone to keep their funding.
>>151750008Does nobody else want to call attention to the fact that this massive skyscraper-sized mech is made ENTIRELY OF PLATINUM?? A rare metal that even in modern times only a few hundred tons are produced, GLOBALLY, A YEAR?? Purely for the sake of going "nuh uh, my super speshul mech is made of platinum!! u can't metalbend it!!" like a powertripping schoolkid?
>>151752097Yes, but we never saw that he had the ability to defeat an angel.
>>151752253It's not the same platinum we have here on Earth. "Platinum" is just what they call a "pure metal" that doesn't have earth imperfections, and thus can't be bent with earthbending. Yes, it's stupid, I agree.
>>151752088And that's a good thing
>>151752253The Avatar world isn't Earth. Maybe platinum is common there.
hot take:The spirit world as a concept was shit and executed even more poorly, it was bad in ATLAB and doubling down on it in Korra didn't help it. As a concept it adds very little to the overall story and its potential lies in completely changing the world the writers gave birth to for very little overall payoff. What is integral and inseparable to the lore of the world they made is ultimately convoluted and largely unnecessary to the world and lore they initially presented.
>>151752056The Good and Evil carpets are an objectively retarded thing to shove into the Avatar lore, which also contradicts everything that was ever said about the Avatar before.
>>151752315Okay, but Wan is based.>which also contradicts everything that was ever said about the Avatar before. They didn't tell us anything about the avatar, only that it reincarnates and controls the four elements.
>>151752287The funniest thing is that the entire world of Avatar is the size of the moon.
>>151752288That ain't a hot take, nigga.
>>151750008It should have been an airship. Not only for the irony of an Earthbender running an airship, but also how it would basically require Korra to strap her airbender balls on, but also make Tenzin’s new pupils relevant in sieging the sky-fortress.
>>151752512Yeah
>>151750008Yes, it was so incredibly retarded and out of left field the Kuvira jumps to nuclear weapon giant death robot because the hacks writing the show accidentally made Kuvira right on all her points and had to quickly pivot into making her super Hitler so people would stop liking her
>>151750008I got into this franchise to see element magic martial arts stuff in a fantasy China setting.I was not on board for the super trains and giant robots.
>>151750910..you were not even alive then zoom zoom, fuck off.
>>151750008WATCH OUT FOR THOSE WRIST ROCKETS
>>151752253>>151752272>>151752287Yeah I'm more bothered that they were able to metalbend liquid mercury when y'know, the entire basis of earthbending is based around impurities.Still, "platinum" should have just been some made up metal like "unbendium" or some kind of special 100% pure titanium or whatever
>>151750008It was even worse than that.
>>151750963>Introducing advancing tech into the Avatar world was ham-fisted and a bad idea (the big drill from atla was too). The series has a great magic-kung-fu thing going and should have leaned into that way more.I strongly disagree. Technology as a force for overpowering enemy benders and disturbing the status quo was already a theme in atla (the airships, the tanks, the drill)It was just done poorly in Korra. Jumping too quickly from mecha, to big mecha with laser. They needed to push the technological advances *in the background* from season 1 in Korra, and gradually escalate it in an elegant way (they just didn't do that). Technology disturbing the lives of otherwise peaceful monks could've been kino.
>>151753173Would have been cooler if Aang had just made energy bending a thing instead of creating globohomo city to compensate for his lost tribe.
>>151753202I mean he kinda did (that's literally what he did with Ozai, right?)But I think you're saying that he should have been able to somewhat share that knowledge with the world(?) in which I agree with you, like it should have come from him. And that's a good idea by you bc then they could squeeze in some experimental little like faulty energybending contraptions in Korra season 1, crediting "Aang's discovery", making energy bending becoming a thing later less jarring. Yeah that would've been kino.
>>151751066Why do people say that whenever someone shows disinterest in modern slop? It is not something like Disco Elysium isn't really about Communism/pro-communism (it is). Or South Park turning Trump into Saddam Hussein is funny (not really).I really don't like Metal Hitler (I don't remember her name) but /co/ loves her because coomers.>>151752097Yes but they were almost justified with it. As >>151752271 said, it was a waste of money. How their response to not being able to use the AT field was "I'm sure will definitely figure it out" is not so different than how "green energy" was pitched (brushing off crippling flaws of the technology as something that can be ironed out in the future).
It was meh, which by Avatar standards means it's shit.
>>151753382not really. the railgun was proof that AT fields could be bypassed with nonAT technology. the reason gendo had to sabotage it was to maintain himself as the sole combative option against the angles to carry out his shitty plan
>>151751014So Korra died here right?
>>151753801The railgun used the power of the entire city and that was one angel. It definitely wasn't going to work for all of them.
>>151750096Without the giant robot, Fascism would've been the only sensible form of government in that universe. It was necessary.
Kuvira did nothing wrong. Aang fucked up by not giving the Earth Kingdom their rightful clay after the war.
It should of been a Mecha Badgermole
>>151753382>How their response to not being able to use the AT field was "I'm sure will definitely figure it out"they proposed an artificial AT field which ritsuko couldnt refute the possibility of
>>151750008It was dreadful. The entirety of LoK should be ignored
>>151750008It should've been a landship mounting that gun like a massive fuckoff Ratte. A mech just doesn't fit the aesthetic.
>>151750008Some one post the goodfellas parody
>>151750008In the context of the rest of the show, no. It basically just gave normalfags the same feeling of "am I really watching Avatar?" that I had for all 4 seasons.
>>151751066It's funny because the "the YouTuber gave you that opinion" meme came from Twitter
>>151754263Season 3 was good
Avatar was so bad at writing villains and endings
>>151755663>implying Zuko and Azula were badbook 3 fumbled a bit. The problems with Korra go way beyond the villains and endings. Everything about it sucked.
Kuvira was right. I fucking HATE Suyin.
>>151750008The general consensus on this show was never negative. The bitter hatred comes form a very vocal minority.
>>151755743I disagree that everything about it sucked. It definitely has issues because it was originally only a single season and then got three more approved, only to have Nick fuck with it's time slot and then banish it to online only. The second season hurt it a lot too, the big gimmick that season was the animation studio that did Naruto was animating half the episodes, but those episodes looked like shit and the story wasn't enough to make up for it. Season 3 was generally pretty good. But as this thread covers, season 4 was garbage and a bunch of really stupid decisions were made by the writers.
>>151750008YesI want to murder that bitch nigger dyke korra
>>151751206Persona 5, Bioshock Infinite, and Skyward Sword say hi.
>>151750232Legacy media seething over YouTube will never stop being funny.>The plebians would have no choice but to love our slop if it weren't for those damn computers
My biggest problem with Korra was that we never got to see more of the fire nation. No Izumi, no Iroh Jr, nothing about Zuko's granddaughter who I just found out existed 3 days ago.
>>151756721Not being ruined in Korra is a good thing.
