Is James Baxter really the best Disney animator or do zoomers just see him as such cause he’s worked on their beanmouth lore shows?
>>
He did a guest presentation at my University
Animated a cute dog right in front of us and showed up the absurd lengths he went drawing references for Spirit
Was really cool as well
>>
>>151758690
Imagine thinking something is bad because of how they drew a mouth
>>
>>151758690
James Baxter and Eric Goldberg are both legitimately extremely good. Look at anything they worked on in the 90s. The fact he was in an Adventure Time episode is like the least-interesting thing on his resumé.
>>
>>151758690
You can thank Fagventure Time for this. Its animation was the cartoon equivalent of cheap foreign brown labor.
>>
>>151758769
>acting like beanmouth only refers to mouth shapes rather than being a slang term referring to the trend of extreme simplification of artstyles in general for costcutting measures and executive meddling.

Fuck off back to Troondit
>>
>>151758690
He's one of the last trained in the classic Disney tradition.
Also he clearly wants to fuck a horse.
>>
I loathe beanmouth
>>
>>151758690
James Baxter is the best animator period
You have to be retarded to not think so
>>
>>151758927
Beanmouth looked better in earlier beanmouth/simple artstyle shows like Flapjack and season one Adventure Time and Regular Show, in the mid 2010’s-onward the style became a caricature of itself and the animation in RS and AT gradually became more lifeless. There were a few visually appealing beanmouth shows like Uncle Grandpa and Over the Garden Wall but it’s mostly cheap shit like Steven Universe or Big City Greens.

Stfu, spamming faggot

Slow your horses, I know he’s good but absolutism isn’t

No, you fuck off
>>
>>151759239
Stop spamming you freak
>>
>>151758892
This was becoming a problem well before AT. You need to understand this had become an issue by the time of The Princess and The Frog. They had to bring multiple guys temporarily out of retirement to do that.
The sentiment in the 1990s was that the technology was changing so rapidly that the techniques they were using were becoming obsolete, leaving little reason to train the next generation on the same techniques.
>>
>>151759066
Baxter's cool if you like Disney animation, I like Frans Vischer's stuff.
>>
God, /co/ is fucking insufferable.
>>
>>151759066
>James Baxter is the best animator ever

Need I show you Richard Williams?

>>151759261
You should
>>
>>151759304
Well? (you) should answer OP! It's loaded with tons of fresh bait! Industry shitflinging, -oomerisms, beanmouth? The possibilities are endless!

>>151759239
>>151759355
I thought you were gonna spend the day on /int/?
>>
>>151758690
That’s not something that can be quantified but he’s certainly an excellent draftsman, they handed many MAJOR scenes from all those 90s features to him. He was 23 years old when he animated that ballroom dance between Belle and the Beast, having to take into account the 3D camera movement. He animated Rafiki holding up the newborn Simba on Pride Rock. He animated the shot of Quasimodo carrying Esmeralda to the top of Notre Dame crying “Sanctuary! Sanctuary!”

That was all him, all before he turned 30. And now he has to live in a time where Disney rolls out the ugliest fucking carpet that is their “live-action” remakes over his hard work. Imagine that.

>>151759333
I'm pretty sure James Baxter was originally taught by Richard Williams. I dunno if he ever worked on The Thief, but he did work on Roger Rabbit.
>>
>>151759367
No.
>>
Reminder that people used to graduate the calarts school with James Baxter-level skill, as that schools initial purpose was to get people to the ideal skill level to work on a 2D Disney feature, but nowadays people from that school make thesis films with Newgrounds-level quality, we may never see another James Baxter or Richard Williams again.
>>
>>151759362
Beanmouth is a cancer on our industry and the only people in the industry who like that style are executives, get real.
>>
>>151759689
Oh he got one! OP hooked a BIG one!
>>
>>151759433
He was hired onto Roger Rabbit by Williams from undergrad. Williams’ guys were trained by Art Babbitt earlier, and Williams was a nut for the other Disney guys like Milt Kahl, so Baxter did get traditional Disney training on the job from Williams.
>>
>>151759885
If you’re okay with the fact that all modern cartoons are forced to look like cheap generic slop by executives you don’t care about the medium or the industry.
>>
>>151758690
James Baxter is the animator who will work on everything and WANTS to work, where I think a lot of the other animators are stuck drawing Disney for the rest of their lives.
>>
>>151760002
I just don't watch American cartoons for children kek. Not referring to /a/slop either, I'm plenty excited for Planetes. You should attend an animation festival sometime.

Anon...
When Gumball began, it didn't default to beanmouth slop. This happened after S1 and only got worse after S2 as a result of Ben Bocquelet embracing Calarts style. AT had nothing to do with this enshittification.

American cartoons for adults fucking suck visually too, it’s not just beanmouth but all modern cartoons look cheap as shit.

Oh definitely, I agree with you. But complaining about what you don't like isn't going to change anything, so you might as well find things you do like.
>>
>>151759433
That's a strong pedigree
>>
>>151758730
How quickly did he get the animation done?

Why not be the change you wanna see?
>>
>>151758690
The worst part is that, from what the trailer showed us, the scene is going to look worse than the family guy one and it's going to be just gumball and Darwin instead of the entire cast.
>>
>>151761926
He also did the title sequence for Close Enough

Not sure how this applies, I'm saying if everything sucks now, why not be the change you wanna see? Why not make stuff that DOESN'T suck?

The only defense toon zoomers have these days is to pretend they pulled off a masterful bait if you reply.

Yeah failing careers and no new industry IPs to care about is a steep price to pay to bait.
>>151761922
And be rewarded with harassment from industry people who refuse to support your original ideas and call them shit?
>>
>>151759611
The artstyles are all different.
>>
>>151762005
>And be rewarded with harassment from industry people who refuse to support your original ideas and call them shit?
>But people will be MEAN to me for my brilliant ideas, this is the one I'm telling ya!
Maybe your ideas are half baked shit more than not the kind they want because last I checked, /co/ is the home of the idea men with no sweat equity or experience
>>
>>151762005
What about HERE? What about the community HERE? Wouldn't they support you instead of the industry?

And when has that ever happened? Can you recall a moment in time where an indie artist drew stuff he wanted and got harassed for it? The only thing I can think of is that one artist who drew shotacon openly and got blacklisted for it. But just do a better job at hiding your /ss/ art and hang out in communities that accept that kinda art.
>>
>>151762161
And they all look like shit

Because that place turned into a commie school.

Didn’t he also own an animation studio which did the animation for the animated scenes in Enchanted?

this is why american 2D animation will stay shit forever
>>
>>151764339
They are symptoms of the same problem: lack of good artists
>>
>>151764486
The problem is that labor-saving tools are being used to minimize the cost of animation, rather than being used to increase the quality of animation deliverable on a given budget.
>>
>>151764486
>lack of good artists
You got it the other way around. Every year, schools pump out tons of qualified artists who will never find work because the industry doesn't need them.
