Eternals has a lot more in common with Silver Age. Regardless, just because their attempt to normify it failed doesn't mean the original source material is palatable to normies. Eternals would have been more popular if they made them into le badass ironic quirky quipsters XD like James Gunn or Taika Waititi characters.

If they had kept some personalities from their comic counterparts really hurt the film. Making Ikarus an antagonist is one of them. Making Sersi (who can be already) unsure of herself compared to her more confident comic counterpart. Really didn't help.

Jack was a great illustrator but a shit writer who obsessed over teams of no less than ten people and could not accept his readers didn't have the attention span for that shit
His characters spoke ridiculous dialogue
His cosmic aesthetics were amazing and not worthy of attempting to bring to live action
