How do you write episodic cartoons that don't feel like animated sitcoms?

Interesting world and not have 50% of episodes be set in the house
>>
>>151780463
don't have the characters stand around talking for extended periods of time.
>>
>>151780463
no status quo

Follow what Season 2 Gumball did and don't follow what Season 5 Gumball did.
>>

gumball always felt like a sitcom to an extent, with the classic family sitcom dynamic

Do wacky adventures that don't follow a "central" plot. Like doing sidequests in a bethesda game

So write about school life

Well SpongeBob fucking failed that miserably nearly a generation ago.

But if you want a long lasting shiw then no massive stakes that cant be solved.
All references to previous shows should be in service of a bigger story. And not LOL REMEMBER THAT FUNNY THING LETS FUCKING RUIN IT BY TALKING ABOUT IT like the my laig guy frim SpongeBob.

Don't be afraid of story threads left hanging.

Basic simple archetype characters that is molded slowly into what the audience likes and or can service the story.

Tell your storyboard artists that they can add jokes and even rewrite scenes. It's fine to start with a script, but that should be a rough draft for artists to build on. If you're writing alone, just skip the script and go straight to boarding.

This too.

add a shit ton of slapstick

Malcolm in the Middle would work as a cartoon

If you see the first episodes of SpongeBob they are surprisingly connected, it's only later that they dropped it in favor of the repeated plots.

Nothing wrong with feeling like a sitcom, they're comfy. Just don't be a bad one.

Lots of action

>no status quo
That's terrible for an episodic series. The status quo exists for a reason.

I just went on a binge of old shows like thundarr the barbarian and just realized something.
Their more racially diverse havevstromger womrn snd better written and looking thrn the shitbwe have snd were cheaper to produce.
And we're "sitcom" tier

We lost that in favor if therapy sessions by spoiled childrrn and hot pieces of ass like dana and the chick behind star being put in charge rather then being the well paid office bunny of a producer who stayed as the power behind the throne

I guess John k was right.
