Why is the Joker the arch nemesis that writers choose for Batman when Scarecrow is actually his dark mirror? Scarecrow is Batman if instead of using terror to help other people he used it for himself and his ego. Joker has nothing in common with Bats to be his mirror.
Joker was in the comic called Batman #1.
>>151785164Writers are lazy so they decided that because Alan Moore said that the Joker and Batman are mirrors of one another that it will be true until the end of time
>>151785164I love Scarecrow but all of Batman's villains mirror him in some way including the Joker
>>151785164Contrast really.
>>151785472That I agree with, but with modern stories of Batman being so focused on the thin line he walks between darkness and justice, I think Scarecrow is the character that shows that the most because he is what Batman would turn into if he decided to use fear for his own sadistic pleasure to make himself feel better. I don't really see a way Bruce Wayne would ever turn into the Joker outside of some crackpot stories
>>151785164>Joker has nothing in common with Bats to be his mirror.Read Killing Joke
>>151785614Tbf Two-Face and Freeze reflect him similarly but those two are more limited in stories
>>151785164Scarecrow is too one-note
You mean Two Face
>>151785659Any character is as one note as the writer writes them. How is a man dressed like a scarecrow more one note than a man dressed like a clown conceptually?
>>151785164Every writer has their own reasoning. Morrison’s Joker remade his own personality every day to cope with the modern world. Zdarsky lazily copied this as Batman’s former teacher teaching him how to make DID alters, and Joker doing everything in his published history to free Batman’s own alter, Zur-En-Arrh.
>>151785839Clowns have more in their bag than scarecrows
>>151785674I don't see it
Jews find Joker more marketable
>>151786622Cool it
>>151785472Which commonly reappearing villains mirror him the least?
>>151785164Penguin is his dark mirror, sillyhead. Batman is a rich crimefighter who themes himself after a mouse that flies. Penguin is a criminal rich guy who themes himself after a bird that doesn't fly. They both have gadgets out the wazoo. One lives in a private cave and the other in a public iceberg. Its pottery.
>>151787384Probably Clayface
>>151785164Joker is more flexible and can be the villain of the week, if you need a guy to smuggle heroin or run credit card scams the Joker doing it wearing a silly hat and talking like a pirate works but Scarecrow only works in his own stories
>>151785164It's hard to write a second Scarecrow story. It's the same formula since the 70s.>Scarecrow is doing an illegal thing>Batman swoops in>Gets sprays by fear gas>Batman freaks out while Scarecrow runs off>Two issues of Batman dealing with inner demons>Batman gets out of it, goes and stops Scarecrow
>>151785164Scarecrow is Batman's unhinged fear Ivy is Batman's destructive obsessionMr.Freeze is Batman's nostalgic attachment Bane is Batman's pursuit of physical strength Penguin is Batman's generational wealthRiddler is Batman's pursuit of mind Two-Face is Batman's double lifeJoker is Batman's one bad dayCatwoman is Batman's lonely upbringing
>>151785463Joker likely had a lot more popularity by being one of the more visually interesting villains back in the early days. When everyone else was just some guy in a suit, or some guy in single color tights. Joker had the bright purple suit clown man with clown gadgets and circus themed vehicles. Everyone sort of worked backwards from there since he was the more interesting looking guy that made for great cover art that sold books.
>>151785164The best Batman villains are a reflection of him in some way. As you say, Scarecrow is if Batman weaponized his fear for nefarious purposes instead of using it as a tool against criminals. Two-Face is the struggle between a civilian life and your true, darker inner nature. The Penguin is all of the advantages Bruce had as Wayne with none of the morality. The Joker is what happens when you have that One Bad Day and decide that the whole world is a farce and deserves what it gets rather than trying to make it better.
Joker can do anything and everything. Scarecrow is harder to write for.
>>151787520Truly, the greatest rogues gallery ever made
>>151787565Indeed. As much as I love Batman, the villains are just as compelling.
>>151785659>>151787502only retards that don't read comics parrot this shit. scarecrow has plenty of stories that don't revolve around his fear toxin, and has plenty of potential for stories without his fear toxin. his whole thing is fear and scaring people. you can do a lot with that. hell, TNBA literally adapts one of his most popular stories that doesn't involve his fear toxin and instead has him removing people's fear, so i have no idea why people keep saying "scarecrow only has one story!!!!!" when that's not even true in cartoons.
>>151787520Extended Explanation:1. Scarecrow uses fear for his sadistic passion in chemistry 2. Ivy is an eco anarchist that will resort to the extreme to save mother nature3. Mr.Freeze unwilling to let go of the past ironically caused him to lose his humanity 4. Bane uses a special steroid called Venom to enhance his physical strength in order to stand above other 5. Penguin inherited the Cobblepot family fortune and uses it to rule the lower classes6. Riddler stage elaborate death traps and puzzle to test out Batman's mind7. Two-Face suffered from a traumatic experience that fractured his personality into two8. Joker became an insane criminal because the unfortunate bad luck of his life 9. Catwoman orphaned at a young age was forced steal and fend for herself
>>151785164What's his favorite horror flick?
>>151785164I figured it was people assuming the only thing he has was the fear toxin and they assumed only one storyline could be done with that? Weak excuse but I don't know what other reason he'd be used so infrequently.
>>151787743i think you mixed up scarecrow's explanation
