Were all the changes to the lore the reason it failed?>Comics Ikaris is the main character, hero and leader of the Eternals. He’s a bit prideful, stubborn and hotheaded, but he genuinely cares for humans, even falling in love with one, and is willing to challenge his masters, the Celestials, to protect them.>Movie Ikaris the main antagonist, a zealot willing to sacrifice the humans and betray the Eternals to appease the Celestials.>Comics Sersi is a fun-loving, vivacious party girl who puts on a flirty front to hide her insecurities.>Movie Sersi is the main character and a wet blanket in love with Ikaris, a romance that didn’t exist in the comics.>Movie Thena is actually pretty faithful to the comics, as the team’s no-nonsense warrior princess.>Comics Makkari is a male roguish deuteragonist who often butts heads with Ikaris and has a romance with Sersi.>Movie Makkari is a tertiary deaf-mute woman.>Comics Deviants are intelligent, diverse creatures that want to kill humans to get revenge on the Celestials who created them all, leading to their conflict with the Eternals. Their leader Kro is actually fairly reasonable and has a forbidden romance with Thena.>Movie Deviants are mindless beasts, with only Kro ever gaining sentience after stealing the Eternals’ power, and he has a bitter rivalry with Thena.
>Comics Ajak is a male antagonist and a zealot for the Celestials who clashes with the Eternals for going against their orders for the sake of the humans.>Movie Ajak is the motherly team leader who inspires the others to protect the humans from the Celestials and gets killed by Ikaris for her betrayal. >Comics Druig is an antagonist who wants to use his mind-control powers to rule over humans because he sees himself superior.>Movie Druig flirts with the concept but ultimately stays him an edgy good guy, and has a romance with fem-Makkari.>Comics Sprite is a male incel with an oneitis for Sersi who gets so mad she slept with all the 60 male Eternals except for him (because he’s biologically 11-years-old forever) that he uses his powers to mindwipe the Eternals into forgetting their powers and alien origins. >Movie Sprite is girl, her oneitis is transferred from Sersi to Ikaris, and she ultimately gets redeemed and turned human by powered-up Sersi so she can grow old like she always wanted.>Phastos is fairly similar to the comics as the jaded inventor, but the movie made him black and gay with a human spouse and son, which is usually a Thena plotline in the comics.>Kingo is also fairly similar as an Eternal who uses his powers to become a movie star, but in the comics he’s more serious and he’s an Asian-looking guy starring in kung-fu films.>Gilgamesh also stuck close to the comics, but they made him a jolly Asian so his second act death hits harder. He's a more serious and aggressive Arab-looking fella in the comics.
The speedster girl was fun, I liked her.

>>151790733>>151790747To nerds? SureTo normies? Not at all
Comic Ikaris is boring as fuck.
>>151790733The original comic was not popular and got canceled after 19 issues, so no. Plus most MCU projects have extensive changes that only matter to the tiny minority of comics readers, like making Agatha Harkness an amoral mass murderer. There has always been a great love for Kirby's solo projects and a desire to bring them to a wider audience. In some ways it would be fairer if Kirby's own personal creations had the popularity and success of the comics where Stan Lee scribbled his own re-interpretation of the characters over Kirby's art. But life ain't fair.On a more macro level, Kirby was fascinated with the idea of human-like societies of godlike beings who start to mix with regular humans after living apart from them (Eternals, Inhumans, Mr. Miracle) and it's a tough sell, except maybe the Asgardians, and maybe not even them. People identify more easily with superheroes who are like ordinary schmoes with superpowers.
>>151792428I feel like it works best when you have one from a far-out there culture living among regular humans.
>>151792280rude
>>151792280Kirby wasn't much of a writer.
>>151795065Even big Kirby fans don't really hold Eternals in terribly high regard.
