i think that was the point. he could easily have adopted another identity just like the first episode when he stole the batman suit. he didnt, he went as himself, borrowing from both batman and robin's identity, but ultimately as himself. a bit of symbolism to reinforce the closing lesson that its not the suit that makes someone batman. it made it feel like terry deserved the role opposed to it being another silver spoon situation. an example of narrative legacy done right.
