Sometimes genres expand beyond the label, sometimes they don't- everyone uses "Metroidvania", not "Search Action"."Smash Clone" isn't necessarily a mark against a game. It's just the language of the moment. I have seen more people use Platform Fighter recently, so, we'll see how it goes.
