The Cataclysm is pretty good as a feat but it's unclear how long it took him to perform it, but it wasn't done under strain. Based on the End Time dungeon it's hard to tell how badly he would've destroyed the world in its entirety at the end of the expansion but it was at the very least life wiping, to the point where glaciers were just gone from the north of the world and replaced with a charred wasteland- the actual attack being performed basically at the center of the world. Asura was, as Death Battle had shown, a monster who needed to learn. Who better to teach Asura that lesson than the one who broke from the chains of his pasts and became better? Kratos was the better man and Asura needed to be redeemed. Sure Asura never harmed a hair on an innocent person’s head but that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter that Kratos lectured Asura despite goring that innocent sex slave on a gate lever and killing 99% of Greece. What actually matters is a single truth. The powerful truth was that Asura never was the monster, he was a victim of his rage which Kratos cleared his mind of by killing him. That’s why Asura snapped back to his senses and said “I never was.” at the end before dying. I did feel bad for Mithra as she’ll be alone for a couple of hours until her father revives. But hey, he’ll be a brand new man with a clear mind and soul because Kratos taught him what it feels like to be free of his Wrath.
