Why this trash is so massively overrated? Honestly it's incomprehensible the glorification of a movie with such a poor script, to be honest, with such an autoindulgent and self important tone, with zero humbleness.

Lmao maybe you DON'T know why.
You know (or maybe you don't), sometimes I forget I share a board with absolute retards. No pun intended.

Ratatouille is a hard movie to like. It's got too much of a high opinion of itself, yet it's a heavily flawed movie. This is why humble writing is important in animation. Audiences embrace and connect more with humble films. They don't like that feel of pretentiousness while at the cinema.

>>151802407
... because it's Pixar? Did I get it right?

They are. The only reason their movies became famous is the revolutionary CG animation being a huge novelty. During the early years of the studio's filmography each new film improved the quality until eventually reaching diminishing returns.

Anyway once the novelty of CG went away many of their movies don't really hold much sway. I honestly thinking back don't like the Toy Story movies too much. Realistically speaking no kid would care about toys. And how the movies keep insisting on how valuable toys are makes me hate them with each new sequel because it feels like an insult to reality while being a commercial for merchandise.

The sooner Pixar dies the better.

I legit think Ratatouille was Pixar's first real misstep. Pinkava wrote a boring plot with boring characters, and then Bird tried to salvage it. He failed imo. The movie was clearly made in a troubled era ( Disney buying Pixar and Lasseter taking over WDAS ) There's a lack of polish to the storytelling and pacing
>>
>>151802571
This. Pixar has always produced trash, audiences just loved the keys jangled in their face and many of the critics who gave Toy Story 1 the 2/5 it deserved had their careers destroyed by Disney.

Ratatouille in particular was a mess. Half of the plot was cut out of the final product, the story itself is based on an urban legend ("this one chef committed suicide because he was worried he might lose a star", no he committed suicide because he was outted as a nonce), and the plot that is there is inappropriate for children (nobody under the age of 14 is going to understand the concept of a bastard son). Many remember it as the "rat who cooks and the food critic that learns to appreciate him" movie, but in reality it is the "Disney and Pixar whitewash a pedophile's legacy" movie.
And speaking of whitewashing, why is Paris depicted as 90% white? When is this movie set? During the Nazi occupation?

>Ratatouille wasn't for kids
It wasn't for adults either. Not much of a compelling story for adults ( sewer rat befriending a dishwasher and controlling like him like a puppet so he becomes a great cook. No explanation as to why the rat goes through the trouble of helping him ).
>>
>>151802384
Sharkfag, this is a new low even for you. Get real.
>>
>Ratatouille
>Really strong plot
Pick one. Inheritance subplot and Skinner wanting to start a frozen food line were boring.
>>
Everytime a CG film is released, american critics mention how it's not on par with Ratatouille. They want and would love for the CG landscape to be filled with films written like Incredibles and Ratatouille.
>>
This is a lovely movie. You're the ones who think too high of yourselves and think you're above it.
Movie is for both kids and adults. That's why the plot is simple. Kids don't need to know what a "bastard" is, just that Linguini doesn't know Gustave is his dad as the trope of the missing child is common in stories for kids.
Just fucking chill.

Also the fans of Pixar of the 2000s we're sooooo smug and condescending towards anyone anytime when a new movie os those hacks was released in theaters. Glad that shit died and now we have good companies like Sony Pictures Animation.

Careful with what you say... A rat with a hooked nose exerting hidden control on a french guy, who would otherwise be useless without its master...
The writer made it to spite the frenches, yet they LOVED IT.

Hi sharkfag
>>
Looking back, Meet the Robinsons was the best CG film of 2007. Unlike Ratatouille, it manages to leave a good message while also being entertaining, creative and humble ( Ratatouille is dull, unimaginative and has its head far up its ass ).

Both Ratatouille and Surf's Up released in theaters at the same month of June of 2007, with Surf's Up being released a prior weeks before Ratatouille. Needless to say that Surf's Up is the better CGI movie of 2007 -along with Meet the Robinsons- and it holds up so much better than Ratatouille.

At this point Pixar has more bad than good movies, so it's not a good company. Golden Age Disney was billion times better than this pathetic excuse of creatives who ruined animation and the public perception of the medium forever. Mald.
