It's not obscure, but it is dated to boomer TV culture, though keep in mind there used to be way fewer channels and shows so there was a monoculture for references like this. A medium TV star would still be recognizable to basically everyone.

I think that is the IRL explanation of why Addison didn't do the show, she's not avoiding the show because she did both movies, she's just focusing on college.
