>>151804875Budgeting and planning for that show was really clunky. Timm was really the only guy doing a show of that scale and still maintaining some quality. Besides him, there were the Japanese, who had the upper hand in absolutely everything. Genddy and the Avatar guys showed up, but they were pretty much the only other guys doing that kind of thing. People don't understand how depressing animation was pre-Bruce Timm/Dini.

JL S1 was considered way worse than BTAS, STAS and BB. By S2 onward, the reputation had improved, but it wasn't until JLU and specifically the entire Cadmus arc that opinion really shifted.
