What the fuck is this shit? Half the movie is just washed out live action footage of actors with bad costumes on and then it just abruptly ends in the middle of the story. It feels like a movie that isn't even 30% finished. And then there's a quote from Ralph Bakshi where he talks about how bad he thought the 1977 Rankin/Bass Hobbit movie was, when it's way better than this garbage. Has Bakshi always been this much of a retarded hack?

Bakshi always had trouble with his budgets
>>
>Bakshi was aware of Rankin/Bass's The Hobbit TV special, and angrily commented that "Lord of the Rings is not going to have any song for the sake of a record album." During the lawsuit, he commented that "They're not going to stop us from doing The Lord of the Rings and they won't stop us from doing The Hobbit. Anyone who saw their version of The Hobbit know it has nothing to do with the quality and style of our feature. My life isn't going to be altered by what Rankin-Bass chooses to do badly." Years later, he called their film "an awful, rip-off version of The Hobbit."
>During development of the live-action films, Bakshi said he was approached by Warner Bros. to make the second part, but refused as he was angry of not being notified about the live-action film.
He legitimately sounds mentally retarded.

Rankin Bass Hobbit is amazing, thats crazy that Ralph would throw that shade.
I don't even think this one is that rough, at the very least it has a few shots that have cemented themselves so hard as the default imagining of certain scenes Peter Jackson stole them.

I mean. Do you ever hear people recommending it? 6.2 imdb, 51% metacritic. What did you expect?

I do think the idea of a Tatami Galaxy-like animation could've worked though. Not in the 70s, but it could've worked at some point.

There should be a Lord Of The Rings animated series. Just do every book as a season. One season for Fellowship, one season for Two Towers, one season for Return.

It would allow you to cover everything in the books, including the shit Jackson's movies miss out on, like Tom Bombadil, the Barrow-Downs, and the Scouring of the Shire.

LOTR is fucking JAM PACKED with songs, what is he talking about? Sounds like he misunderstood what he was adapting a little.

Has Bakshi ever made a good film? I've seen this and Cool World and they both fucking suck. Why did anyone keep giving him money to make these turds?

Film? Naw. He did some of the original Spiderman TV show and that was decent as a product of its time though.

I don't get how this guy earned the title of "master of adult animation" when many cartoons with mature themes were a thing way before he even joined the game.
>>151806323
His best work is Mighty Mouse '87 which, funnily enough, is neither film or for adults. It had an actual impact on the industry.

Fritz the Cat

Actually a gold mine for whoever's bold enough to try to pitch the idea
>>
>>151806323
At least he tried making animated films for adults. He wasn’t trying to be Disney like everyone else.

I can't prove it but I suspect he has a learning disability and can't read.

It was the 70s, people stopped reading after school or took up reading as a career.
