For becoming a true A lister to the general public and comic book devotee?
>>151807931On-screen prostate orgasms.
>>151807931I'll tell you what he isn't missing. A sick ass costume. His costume is in the running for GOAT.
>>151807944It's time to stop normalizing Nightwing sexualization
>>151807931>What is Nightwing missing? An iconic story with real impact.
>>151808002Just the tip?
>>151807931He's not interesting for starters. And his biggest problem is that it's always difficult to give an apprentice hero his own rogues gallery that is distinct and unique. No one wants knock off villains of actual iconic baddies. This is why Legacy Heroes never truly work out. And before you say Batman Beyond, that's considered an else world and even then it made mistakes like relying on some of the iconic villains that Batman already had.Anyway the bottom line is that Nightwing is not necessary and has nothing to work with. This is also why even Damian will suffer eventually. Damian doesn't have anything to work with either and he has it worse in that he was created way too late in the franchise's history so many ideas have already been utilized already without it seeming like knock offs already. Batman doesn't need an adult apprentice.
>>151807931Being a good character
>>151807931Villains man, it's always the fucking villains.A hero is only as good as his villains, Nightwing has villains, but they're all pretty unknown, they need to be used more and given more importance, not just to Nightwing stories, but also in larger DC stories and adaptations.Like, if you can't see a hero's villain joining something like the Legion of Doom, then that is part of the problem.
>>151807931A good costume, let's be real
>>151808085I feel like any legacy character needs to have some crossover with the main hero's villains. Part of what makes Batrman and Spider-Man so popular is all their iconic villains to work off of. Legacy characters just fall into the same camp as all other heroes that didn't hit it big with a great rogue's gallery, like Moon Knight or Iron Man.
>>151808369Nightwing costumes were somehow very popular last Halloween, people love the costume man.
I thought the current Watters run was well-liked, but it doesn't seem to get as many people talking as the bullshit that Taylor was doing.
>>151807931A thing beyond figuring out who he is
>>151807931He can never be A-List because he'll never have complete independence as a stand-alone character. He'll only ever get adaptations as an extension of a Batman or Titans movie or game. Any attempts to make a solo adaptation will be questioned to death, then turn into a Batman product instead.
>>151807931a movie where he says "fuck batman"
>>151808085I don't think you've properly identified the issue.Let's take it back to the mid 1980s. The Batman group was paradoxically seething over Dick getting stolen by the Titans and chronically embarrassed by Robin as a concept. They went out of their way to remove Robin from the origin of literally every big name villain in the Batman universe. As DC built up Batman's lore in the post-crisis universe, They were his villains too, since the beginning. Then they weren't. Dick was explicitly excluded, and he never really recovered.
>>151807931solo movie where he isn't batman's bitch
>>151807931Illegitimate children
Demonstrable Romani heritage
If DC rebooted and Dick went back to Robin and they gave him a Robin solo book he would easily be A list.
How do you adapt Nigthwing into a solo movie franchise?Does he exist in a shared universe?Do you acknowledge his time as Robin?Does Bruce show up? What about Alfred? Barbara? The Titans? It's messy. He's a messy character. The original superhero sidekick. They should have never let him grow up.
>>151808961Taylor...
>>151808002That's the only reason why people care about him.
>>151807931Decent Villains, a supporting cast, a character with depth and more personality than just being snarky and having a big ass, at least one good story.
>>151807931It's wild how Nightwing has been around for like 40 years and still has yet to have one defining storyline. He's the original potential man
>>151808085You need to actually get rid of the previous guy or allow the successor to surpass them for a legacy character to work. It's why it only worked for the Flash. And then they fucked that up
>>151807931Being Robin
>>151807967>>151808369It's one of the most boring, basic bitch costumes imaginable. It's just a unitard with a bird motif.
>>151807931What in the hell is going on with the anatomy in this picture
>>151809329Sometimes less is more.
>>151808085Exactly. I've said it numerous times in the past but essentially Nightwing came about because they wanted to do solo Batman stories but Robin was too popular to get rid of. Then when they finally had to give readers Robin back Dick had become too popular with the Titans and his other adventures so they turned him into Nightwing and figured he could hold down his own title, and ever since he's been stuck in limbo because people want to put him back with Batman but also don't want to regress Dick and think Nightwing is just a cool name and costume. They need to just make him Robin and stick to it. This also has the added benefit of cutting out all the additional continuity snarl and information implications that come along from all the Robins after him. Same with keeping Barbara as Batgirl.
>>151809329That;s why it's good
>>151807931make him biologically related to Batman.
>>151809356You're wrong about almost everything. They'd been doing solo Batman comics since 1968, when Robin went off to college. Robin was still in college in the early 1980s.Gerry Conway was writing Batman in 1983 and wanted the classic Batman and Robin father/son dynamic. Wolfman and Perez were using Robin in their wildly popular New Teen Titans book, and pitched a solution. They keep Dick Grayson, Conway gets Robin. DC was fine with it because, money. New Teen Titans was DC's best selling book for years and was outselling Batman by 5x, but Robin sells underoos. This was the best of both worlds for them. So Nightwing was born.DC's big chance to reboot Batman and Robin was during Crisis on Infinite Earths, but like I said, New Teen Titans was their best selling book, so that wasn't happening.A lot happened in the late 80s. Frank Miller published The Dark Knight Returns, with an estranged Dick Grayson, a dead Jason Todd, and Carrie Kelly as the brand new Robin. The post-crisis Jason Todd failed to catch on and was killed in a marketing stunt. And DC doubled down with ANOTHER new Robin. At this point, in just 5 years, Robin had become a legacy character with a past, a present, and a future. There was no going back. They could always do a full reboot and make him Robin again, but they'd be dumping his three popular legacy characters to do it.Look at the success of Batman & Robin: Year One, of World's Finest, of Robin & Batman, etc. It's proven that you can tell stories set in the past without rebooting the present, and fans will buy them.If they really want more Dick Grayson as Robin comics, do a Legends of the Dynamic Duo book. Do a Tales of the Teen Titans book. Just tell the stories.
