The show had a surprising amount of jokes aimed at adults or nods to the actual games of the time.An example of the latter is a portrait of Zelda in her red dress from LoZ2 you see in the background.

The writer for this show was also a co- lead writer on Beast Wars and the 1998 incredible Hulk cartoon that's overlooked. Bob Forward. He has a preference for irreverent and snarky characters and himself has a snarky and dirty sense of humor. I'm a LoZ fan and BW fan, so finding this out gave me a new perspective on this show. I think the last 15 years of really playing with the LoZ formula justifies this show more than when it was one of the few adaptations out there. I can buy this Link just being an oddball in the grand scheme of Links. In a more general sense tough, I appreciate the cartoon as an 80's fantasy thing where the heroes are kinda rough around the edges and full of imperfections

It's also essy to emulate using ScummVM.However if you want context then play the Special Editions of 1 and 2 modded to allow the updated audio to play with the original graphics. The special editions graphics are pretty awful compared to the original's pixel art but the voice acting is stellar. If you just want the originals you can easily emulate them with ScummVM as well.Tales of Monkey island is fun even with the sub standard graphics.You can Pretty much skip Escape and Return to monkey island unless your curious.

I think a lot of people these days get really hung up about lore that didn't really exist but it was, for it's time, a pretty fun fantasy adventure show and if you take it as purely that it's still a fun fantasy adventure show. Link and Zelda were barely characters and more stand ins for the the adventure game to work so they gave them a sort of sitcom vibe to work with but it worked alright.
